Is any one out there being treated with Keppra for migraine? After a mild stroke in May2014 which affected only my balance, the stroke triggered migraine later in the year, according to my neurologist. I have been taking Keppra to counteract daily attacks which caused limb weakness, extreme lack of balance and very unpleasant sensations of movement in my head, but with no real headache. This has been happening most nights since October and has been very wearing.
Right now I am actually on Keppra and Topamax and they have both kept me seizure free for over 3+ years and I have no side effects. My memory isn't that great but I'm not sure I can blame the drugs. The two of those as a combo, for me, are wonderful!
And basically dismissed me and said it probably was a migraine. And put me on Keppra. I have this weird pressure like electric feeling in my spine when looking down. I get soon stiff that I need help moving sometimes. My body hurts. I get goosebumps in patches on my arms and legs. I am always exhausted and soo tired of the pins and needles feeling and randomly going numb. If I think back about last summer I felt like I literally had ants crawling on my arm every time I was in the heat.
But with two normal examinations, the most likely causes are 1) postural hypotension, where your blood pressure drops when you go from sitting to standing and temporarily your occipital cortex is deprived of blood and stops processing vision signals, or 2) migraine, which can cause vision loss without headache, although not usually for just a few seconds.
I started having migraine sypromns when I was 12. I have blackouts. My two EEGs came back normal. The second one had a normal background which ruled out epilepsy. I do not always get an aura and if I do I do not always have a migraine. I get nausea but have never thrown up. I see black spots in my vision and my whole body hurts. I am currently on keppra, concerta, and clomapazapam!!! My nureologist says I have atypical migraines buti am not so sure. Please write suggestions. Thanks in advance!!
I read something on rxlist about moodswings and irritibility related to Keppra. It's believed that Keppra makes your brain "dump" Vitamin B6 at times which lowers dopamine or seratonin levels and makes you feel horrible.
Does your daughter take vitamins? I'd try some Vitamin B6 if her multivitamin doesn't contain it. I started taking Trader Joe's High Potency vitamins and feel much, much better since starting.

I also take Keppra but have never had any problems at all. I suffered with depression for 11 years and came of the medicine fully just before I went on Keppra, and yes I have days where I do feel depressed but with any illness you do have days where you feel depressed even suicidal. So my advice is don't necessarily put it down to Keppra. Talk to the doctor who prescribed Keppra to you and see if you can be referred to a Psychiatrist to talk it through and find out if it is the tablets!
Had the same symptoms,,,de ja vue then an odd sensation I cannot discribe....after a complete mri, eeg and something else I can't recall..all was well in my nogan...but I was put on Keppra and the nasty feeling is finally gone...probably some kind of cluster headache without the pain....
I have no health insurance. I was finally got a really basic coverage, but it doesn't cover keppra. i've been taking keppra for a 2 months. I was switched to phenobarbitol for when I run out. since keppra is not on the charity's formulary.
I hope to God that I cant find some source of keppra before I run out. The phenobarb is scary.

I am having a lot of anxiety for my upcoming appointments to get off of this medicine that has COMPLETELY taken over my life- I just kind of want to talk or get some input as to what to expect. My biggest fear is that the addiction specialist / internist is not knowledgeable with this class of drug (barbituates) - but she must, right?!!!!!! Just myself being pessimistic. I know I'm doing the right thing! My health is highly being jeopardized as well as having a LIFE!
As my DD is in Keppra, and has previously been on other seizure meds, the Keppra, by far has had the least amount of side-effects. You could ask if some of her mood changes, memory loss, etc. are from the stroke vs. the Keppra. Please do not wean her off the medication without a Dr's directive... that could cause withdrawal seizures.

Did you start it after or before keppra? How long were you on Keppra? I wish my daughter could take Lamictal but her rash got the doctor worried, even though it was ringworm. Have you heard of any other anti-seizure meds that might actually work well for moods? I know Lamictal is a very good mood stabilizer. Good luck.
04/12 changed him to Dilatan and keppra more seizures. 05/12 put back on keppra only 3,500 mg. 06/12 seizures moved to keppra 4,000 mg a day! He has had only 1 seizures since been on 4,000, but this is a very high dosage. He is going to see an seizures specialist. Hoping he can get this dosage down.
Continued with Keppra and Di Tan Tang 2X/day each for another 8 days. Then took her Keppra down to 1/day for 2 weeks. Then she went one day with no Keppra and the next day she had a seizure. This seizure was longer, but her disorientation was shorter. Vet then said to go back to giving her Keppra for 30 days and we will re-evaluate. So for the next 30 days she was taking Keppra 1/day and Di Tan Tang 2/day.
How much Keppra do you take, and how long did it take before you seizures completely stopped?

I am on the off brand of keppra and I was wondering if anyone uses adderal to help with the side effects of this medication. I find myself to be out of it most days and not have a drive to do anything.
Anyone else on Keppra to prevent myoclonic jerks (JME diagnosed)? I am, and have been on Keppra for almost 5 years. Started at age 23 and I am now 28. At the beginning they made me very sluggish, but after about 2 months I felt wonderful (since it was the first time in my life I wasn't having seizures!!
orbital pain (eye pain/puffiness) with dizziness could be suggestive of migraine however these symptoms may be short lived. The mainstay of the migraine treatment is always to identify the triggering factors and to avoid them. Triggering factors could be different foods such as cheese, chocolate, alcohol and even few fruits. Other factors that may induce your migraine attack may be few pills, stress or depression, bright lights, loud noise and traveling.
its been 8 months since my mothers TBI- she had a seizure yesterday-she has been off keppra for 1 1/2 months-the side effects of keppra are aweful-they ask her questions and wonder why she is out of it and doesn't know her last name-(after they gave her keppra in the hospital) what can she take that is less evasive to her health and recovery??
Her neurologist recommends the medication, Trileptal, but I am very concerned about the rare, but life threatening side effects, TENS, cardiotoxicity, etc. Keppra is alternate possible drug which seems to have a better safety profile. My question is: Are the possible psychological side effects of Keppra (psychosis is worst case senario) totally reversible if the drug is stopped?? Any insight would be appreciated!
