Common Questions and Answers about Keppra mg

keppra

My doctor just swithced me from regular keppra (2000 mg/day-1000mg in the morning; 1000mg at night) to keppra XR (1000 mg/day-1000mg in the morning). Is it wise to reduce the amount taken?
for example, could we actually leave her at the 250 mg at night and 125 mg in the morning? 250 mg. at night only? 500 mg at night only? Can she end up with just nightly doses? 2. What are, if any, POSITIVE side effects with keppra (i.e. lamictral can actually HELP with bipolar disorder). 3. Will the fatigue eventually go away as she is on it longer? 4. Of your patients, what percentage complain about their moods of depression, hostility, aggression, infection, etc.?
She wants meds and was prescribed keppra. She weighs 95 pounds and is not quite 5' tall. She will eventually take 500 mg twice a day, but will slowly start taking the med... We have it, but I didn't have her start yet becuase she has cheering practice this week. I'd like to hear from other parents or people - does your teen/do you have JME ? What meds are used??
04/12 changed him to Dilatan and keppra more seizures. 05/12 put back on keppra only 3,500 mg. 06/12 seizures moved to keppra 4,000 mg a day! He has had only 1 seizures since been on 4,000, but this is a very high dosage. He is going to see an seizures specialist. Hoping he can get this dosage down.
I too have had seizures, however, they leave me exhausted for only a few hours. The doctors put me on seizure keppra meds 500 mg 2x a day and now I am on 1500 mg 2 x a day....which is working great! Now 75 days seizure free, The 500 mg keppra didn't work.... I have to take the 1500 2x a day exactly twelve hours apart to avoid seizure activity. Good luck.....
I have grand mal seizures generally correlating with my period. The only medicine that has been effective is 500 mg of keppra twice a day. I switched to the generic, Levetiracetam, after my insurance decided to only pay half the price of Brand name prescriptions. The Levetiracetam was pretty much ineffective and I started having seizures again. I switched back to keppra and the seizures stopped. So I guess my question is, I thought the generic was supposed to be the same as the Brand name.
How much keppra do you take, and how long did it take before you seizures completely stopped? Thank you for reading!
She's on a very low dose of keppra, only 250 mg at night and 125 mg in the morning. She's been on it a total of 3 weeks now. I've been with her and she seems to be very melancholy and also short fused over the many situations. She weighs 100 pounds and is 20 years old. She began with Lamictal, which she worked well with, other than fatigue, but she got a rash of ringworm and the doctor took her off it immediately. He didn't know for sure whether the ringworm was incited by the Lamictal.
i take 3000 mg of keppra and 600 mg of tegratol a day,)not a typo) still not fully seizure free and am having alot of dizzy spells.which i was told by my neuro that it was vertigo due to the pollen in the air. can all this med make me gain weight. not a little person , but have gain about 20 pounds in the last month or so. wating or exercise habbits have not changed. could it be the meds.
I've taken keppra for a while and not had problems with it. I take 250 mg twice a day though.
But after I told her about the problems I'm having with my legs/back, she prescribed keppra for me. Small dosage at first, and if the symptoms persist, take it up to 500 mg a day. She thinks that as I keep having these problems, the nerves learn a new pathway, and these myoclonic jerks could get worse. That could definitely be the case - last bout I had, the jerks were longer, stronger, and involved more of my arms and legs. So has anybody taken keppra?
Hello, I wish to have kids in a near future, currently I am taking keppra (3,000 mg a day), it has completly control my seizures and I feel fortunately for this. However, I will like to know if this is a safe medicine to get pregnant with. I know it is still consider as new medicine for epilepsy, and there might be risks for birth defects. I just want to make sure if there has been new research about this medicine and pregnancy, I will like my future children to be healthy.
I read something on rxlist about moodswings and irritibility related to keppra. It's believed that keppra makes your brain "dump" Vitamin B6 at times which lowers dopamine or seratonin levels and makes you feel horrible. Does your daughter take vitamins? I'd try some Vitamin B6 if her multivitamin doesn't contain it. I started taking Trader Joe's High Potency vitamins and feel much, much better since starting. Good luck.
CUrrently I'm taking 50 mg of Prozac and 500 mg of keppra. Since begining keppra I have noticed a wonderful improvement in my ability to sleep through the night (I was waking up at two in the mornign and doing laundry, watching TV or work because I couldn't go back to sleep) and decreased feelings of restlessness and "hyperness" and my "moodiess" have all but disappeared. I feel great!
He was immdiately placed on keppra (250 mg) and his been on it since that date. We have recently had several appts. with the ped neurologist, and MRI which showed some scarring which the Dr. said was probably from the Encephalitis and an EEG test last week however the results for that came back abnormal with frequent epileptiform discharges seem maximally over the right posterior quadrant with no clinical accompaniment. So we were have an appt.
1 take 2 x 500 mg of sodium valporate m/r 1 x 100 mg of lamictal and 1 x 100 mg of keppra. twice daily... and its only since i was introduced to the keppra two years ago that ive yet to fit since. so i recommend it ...stay safe ...
My son is 13 years old and has been on keppra for the past 3 years. His Dr just increased his dosage to 3000mg a day. That sounds a little high to me, and I was wondering if anyone had more information than I on this. I am concerned with his mental and emotional behavior on this drug. He has regressed in school since the 5th grade, granted he's had two grand mal seizures and some partial complex seizures, but I was wondering if this medication had anything to do with it as well.
Well, the Dr at Mayo wanted to try keppra for seizures. They can not confirm a seizure on the EEG since I didn't go to sleep, and I was told that is where they see them generally. Plus since I was sensitive to the check patterns the tech would only want to see the sensitivity, but not induce a seizure. So Dr D. said if keppra works we will know it is seizures. They may also run another EEG in a couple months.
My 3 month old has been put on keppra - she is now up to 300 mg per day. She just got up to this dose on Sunday - just started on keppra on Friday last week - she was in the hospital over the weekend and they kept upping the dose to try to get to a therapuetic dose. on Sunday she seemed to be doing really well - less events, shorter duration, and less activity during them (she has complex partial seizures involving her eyes, face, mouth, and occassionally her hand / foot ticking.
Since then I have taken 500 mg in the morning and 500 mg at night and felt terrible since that time. Super fatigue, mucsle cramps that I could hardly stand or walk when it happened, nausea, great weakness. I kept asking the doctors why and most of them just mentioned my age, my imitation etc. Last week I saw the neurologist again and said I need to find out for sure that I shoud be taken keppra as this is known to give problems like I have.

A COUPLE OF months AGO MY DOCTOR FOUND MY THYROID ENLARGED, I HAD THE BIOPSY, ETC. AND AT THE end HAD IT REMOVED 2 WEEKS AGO. THE endOCRinOLOGIST HAS ME on .125 OF SYNTHROID 1X PER DAY. I HAVE HAD 2 EPISODES OF SEVERE DIZZinESS SinCE THE MED BEGAN. IS THIS NORMAL? COULD IT BE A SIDE EFFECT WITH MY keppra AND LAMICTOL? WHAT SHOULD I DO?
I take 1000 mg Of keppra two times a day to suppress A seizure disorder that came from A TBI in 2008. The keppra work Perfectly, no Seizures since december 2010. If I continue to drink 3-4 Alcoholic drinks on most wednesday nights should It effect the keppra, having control on the seizure disorder? I can keep Alcohol consumption At that Amount!
We finally settled on good old fashioned VPA (ER) and Dilantin-they provided the best control, the least somnolence, and (bonus) were cheapest.on our neurologist's advice ,we transitioned from phenytoin to keppra, while continuing 2500 mg VPA daily.(He's always failed monotherapy.)We made the change as he was"sleeping his life away."Subsequent to completing the change,VPA level was 118 and LFTs were fine.Of note, his depakote levels have always been 70 to 90.This was in March.
I had brain surgery in 2001, and still have epilepsy or "seizure activity" afterwards. My doctor put me on keppra in 2002 because of it. in 2004, I told my doctor I wanted to start my family. I lowered my dosage to 250 mg 2X a day, from 500mg 2X a day, from 2004 to 2009. All things were fine. Got a new doc. She raised it back up. This is after 2 kids. Now hubby and I want a 3rd. Both kids have been diagnosed with ADHD though. Has anyone else ever linked keppra to ADHD??

A few months ater starting keppra(and stopping dilantin),my husband's VPA (ER) level was 121.for years, his level was steady-between 80 and 90.He had markedly increased hand tremors and somnolence. We were told by neurologist and pharmacist-still in therapeutic range-keppra could not have caused the increased VPA level. Two months later,we returned to the neurologist at my (never marry a nurse) insistence. My husband now had leg cramps, was stuporous, very irritable, slept 14 to 16 hrs.

My wife and I want to have a baby. She has been taking keppra 500 mg once daily for about two years now. A few years ago she was on 500 mg, three times a day. I also take one 500 mg daily, along with 20 mg Lexapro twice a day and .5 mg clonazepam three times daily for meneire's disease. She was told back when she was taking the amount of 1500 mg's of keppra that if she were to get pregnant, that the child could have birth defects or other health issues.
