Keppra blood levels

Common Questions and Answers about Keppra blood levels

keppra

as well as Kidney stones, I reduced my dosage by half (1000mg/day down to 500mg/day) over a period of 4 months last yr, still szr free, and blood levels come back with in therapeutic range (something my Neuro can't quite explain yet isn't making me go back up to the 1000mg/day). But I'm having more kidney issues.. am I alone on this? or is anyone else out there having kidney issues with Keppra?
He showed me that that pill was eating up half of my brain (it is called cerebellar atrophy). He slowly put me on different levels of Keppra and I haven't been better. I still have seizures but they are under control and only a few a month. The level of Keppra I'm on now is 500mg twice a day. I'm also on Dilantin and tegertol..........Please don't go on Dilantin go on Keppra....
also the Noroligest should also be checking your son medicine blood levels to make sure they are where they should be.My son gets his checked every 3 months. The Neoroliest should also do a lot of blood work to see if they is a reason why he is having Seizures that they can check by blood work. And his levels should be checked to make sure his add and now his seizure medicine is not damaging his liver and I would also have them do a thyriod blood test and a EKG.
It lasts in the body for some time ...about 24 hours and blood levels should be taken. Other drugs such as Keppra are more forgiving but its not for all types of seizures. Depakote can be a replacement for Dilantin for some as can Zonegran. Neurologists can only guess on what drug will work and its up to you to give him/her good feedback. When I was going to grammar school and high school I was taking Dilantin and phenobarbital and most days I was not totally myself.
Blood work to check levels of Keppra came back as 114.2, my daughter is 13 years old. The doctor said he didn't want to change anything. This discussion is related to Epilepsy meds.
My main concern here is...does leviteracetam lower the immunity levels of children and does it cause repeated infections as a side effect? And can you throw some light on the possible causes of continuing episodes of seizures despite giving medications for the same?
i just started taking keppra and prior to keppra i was on depakote i was on depakote 4 bouut 15 yrs and new bout the side affects reguarding liver and having to do blood count i was ok w that but now here i am depakote free for 9 months taking keepra 750mg=3000 daliy yet i can skip it for time and days and there i go having seizures yet id skip like a month at times w depakote cuz i was doing drugs at that time and realized it takes like 5 weeks of no depakote be4 id be laying out w seizures but
8, so you would be too high on T4, unless your lab uses different ranges. I would honestly find a new endo if this doc would not test or treat FT3 levels. You may be high T4 but low T3, in which case, you could feel much better by lowering the Synthroid and adding Cytomel. If you are still feeling hypo, then you should have your FT3 and maybe even reverse T3 levels tested and treated. I had a doc who would only prescribe Synthroid. I found a new endo. He treats both frees.
Hi, You did not mention your age and the sodium levels in your blood? It would be ebst to take a neurologist opinion and see what he/she has to say. You should also get the relevant investigations as advised by your doctor. Do let us know what your doctor has advised. Hope this helps. Good luck.
1 tab once a day (blood pressure). She is experiencing Low body temperture as low as 92.8, low blood pressure 75/55, low white count 2.0 when admitted now it is up to 6.5, very tired. Just not acting her self. They have checked all her hormone levels and they are fine. Checked her hypothalamus, pituary, and adrenal glands all fine. Also, checked kidneys, liver, gall bladder and they are fine too. She hasnt menstrated since Dec 2011. I dont know what to do from here.
I am currently on 1000 mg of Keppra a day for un known sezuires. Are there any documented case's of reactions with Keppra & a flu shot??? I am also in kidney failure so I MUST get the flu shot. I have even requested to be taken off my Keppra and Have been lowered to 500 mg. a day. #1. any known reactions with Keppra & flu shots? #2. if I come off the Keppra, how long will the Keppra stay in my system? Keppra levels with extreme workouts. Weight lifting along with body workouts. Can this cause blood levels of keep par to be low. Had one seizure two plus years ago and none since. I am on 1000 mg twice a day and blood levels are at 3 -4. Could the workouts cause this. Have lost 55 lbs and have gained quite a bit of muscle mass. I feel good but blood levels are causing question with the neurology folks.
At age 15 ½ he was coming off a sinus infection/antibiotics, when he had his first Gran Mal seizure after sleeping all night in a closed off bedroom with a new guitar case that was off gassing high levels of the neurotoxin, 1 methyl naphthalene. (Smelled like mothballs) They suspect it was the resin in the foam lining. He had an abnormal EEG in the ER 1 hour after. He did not go on meds.

Moreover, addition of keppra will take care of any breakthrough seizure due to fall of dilantin levels in blood. Relax, lamictal has shown its efficacy in trials and works good as monotherapy too. For more information visit *********** relax and take care!
i am all confused and when i told the doctor i will change medication only during vacation time so that i can moniter him. he said ok to that but since blood levels of valproic acid are 32 %(they have been 40% for past 8 years) i should increase the dose. all the literature i have read says that dosage is symptom related and not blood level related . any adv is v useful since i am very worried about making any change now. thanks all!
Taking antiepileptic medications regularly is necessary for maintaining proper drug levels in the blood. The antiepileptics used in absent seizures are ethosuximide, valparin.Discuss with her doctor about alternative antiepileptic for her. Take care and regards!
I have always had low blood pressure, and was glad because I thought it would lower the risk of an angioma bleed. (Not as low as it was getting after I started taking the keppra.) Not only that, but supposedly blood thinners like aspirin supposedly increase the risk of a bleed. The high salt diet has helped a bit. But how high can/should my blood pressure be before there is risk of another bleed. In the last few weeks or so, the left side of my face has started getting numb.
My husband was recently diagosed with glioblastoma multiforme brain cancer. The neurosurgeon put him on Dilantin "for life." He isn't even going to check blood levels. My husband has not had any seizures. Does this seem appropriate?
Unfortunately, I had another seizure before my blood levels of Lamictal got up to therapeutic ranges. In response to this seizure, my doctor placed me on Keppra. I hated it so much that I stopped taking it after only a few days. It made me incredibly tired and moody. I work in medicine and I cringe every time someone tells me they stopped a medication without their doctor's knowledge. That should give you an idea how much I didn't like Keppra.
Drug levels in the blood can guide your doctors to make sure your levels are therapeutic prior to surgery. Take your meds on the day of surgery (in cooperation with your doctors). Dilantin daily dose cna be taken all at the same time. Askabout changing to the twice daily formulation of tegretol, tegretol XR or carbatrol. Then make sure you get your evening doses after surgery.
for the last 15 years they have never been able to get my level up to thereputic levels. I have always felt good and been well controlled at somewhere between a 3 and a 5. When I was preg with my fist child my dr kept having me take more and I was up to 800 mg a day but still only got to a level of a 7! Went and had my level taken today and I was at a 12.0 !!!! ok is that what is wrong with me? Cant stand feeling this way anymore.
the anti inflammatory had no effect and i was sure the pains had nothing to do with me playing guitar. i eventually got to see my specialist. he wasn't sure if it was the kepra. blood tests showed i was deficient in vitamin b6. my specialist said he thought this was the problem so i had b6 injections.
She is also on 3 anticonvulsants, mysoline, Keppra and tegretol. Mysoline and Keppra are at theraputic levels and tegretol is being weaned slowly and is at a blood level of 3. I would like to also know if you believe that the 3 anticonvulsants have a effect on her cognition and clarity? She was having about 15 seizures a month and since the vns she only had 5 seizures in June and only 3 in July so far.
On a Tuesday, my 11 year old daughter was tired but okay, then 11 am had a seizure. (My father has epilepsy). Called 911 and they took her to ER. ER couldn't stop her seizures (different ones tho than when I first called). 4 guys couldn't stop her thrashing about. Nylon straps didn't hold her. They transfered her to children's specialist hospital 10 pm - stopped seizing enroute. She finally woke up a little 5:45 am. Slept most of two days.
Try something else. Elevated Dilantin levels can cause inability to walk, liver and kidney damage. 40 years seems like a long time on the same med.
What I would like to do is see the level of anti-epileptics (ones which have been started) in blood. For this you need to send blood for investigations, just before next dose of anti-epileptics. If the levels are found to be low of any medicine, then the dose could be increased and the one whose levels are high then dose could be decreased for them. Hope this helps. All my best wishes are for her. Bye.
Also my b12 was great! All my blood work was normal. B12 levels were above 400.
I am a diabetic, over the last year my blood sugar was a bit out of controll i had a couple of seizures which would be normial for a diabetic person with extremley low BG. I had one really bad seizure, after a night of staying out and possibly drinking to much, which was a mistake on my part knowing that alcohol lowers the BG for a diabetic, so from what i was told was the worst one yet, the paramedics were called but by the time they got their i all ready had some stuff to get my BG up.
symptoms but the levels in my blood were within the normal range. Repeat MRI scans and EEG came back normal.
