keppra

Avatar m tn How much Keppra do you take, and how long did it take before you seizures completely stopped? Thank you for reading!
Avatar n tn After a very frightening last 2 weeks of my boyfriend on Keppra my doctor did say to ween him off which I've done. Today is the first day off it and he still seems to have the dillusional aggressive side effects that I am hopeful after reading your post.....I pray to god that the old person before this drug comes back. How was those last few weeks for your son?
Avatar n tn The neurologist figured the Topamax just was not working and then put him on Keppra. (He was still taking 1 dilantin and weaned off that dilantin just before going on Keppra) I had him wean off the Topamax really slow, much slower than the neurologist wanted at first but neuro. gave us his ok to wean off slow. He also weaned on Keppra at a slow dosage. The Keppra worked ok and then he had a few other seizures, one he actually ended up w/ a compression fracture in his back.
Avatar f tn TL;DR: I think Keppra makes me dehydrated because alcohol makes me feel super-dehydrated even if I follow the 2:1 water:alcohol ratio, and because I seem to have a hard time staying hydrated in general. But I'm seeing little if any literature to support dehydration as a Keppra side effect. Does anyone else have any ideas?

Avatar f tn Starting around two years ago, I noticed that alcohol doesn't get me drunk, or even tipsy -- it just gives me body aches, headaches and fatigue. There's no lowered inhibitions or warm, fuzzy sense of well-being or any of the other things people want from drinking. No matter how small or large the amount.
452529 tn?1361847855 I feel like a lost a whole part of myself and its pretty depressing. I dont have very bad szs I have partial siezures and am currently on lamictal and keppra. Let me tell you irritable is not the word, I'm horrible on keppra like a different person. I think my doc is going to wean me off and just keep me on lamictal. Although my blood work came back with elevated liver enzymes and low white count so who knows.
6810737 tn?1385004768 There are a number of anti-seizure medications that she can and SHOULD be on with seizures occurring 2 days apart! Leveteracitam (keppra) is a GREAT drug that has to be given three times daily, but is not metabolized by the liver in the instance your vet is worried about your dog's liver function (just speculating as to why the dog is not on meds). Were you offered anti-seizure meds? I just wonder why she is only being treated with fluids...
Avatar f tn I read something on rxlist about moodswings and irritibility related to Keppra. It's believed that Keppra makes your brain "dump" Vitamin B6 at times which lowers dopamine or seratonin levels and makes you feel horrible. Does your daughter take vitamins? I'd try some Vitamin B6 if her multivitamin doesn't contain it. I started taking Trader Joe's High Potency vitamins and feel much, much better since starting. Good luck.
Avatar f tn The phenobarbital is a very widely used anti-seizure medication. It is highly metabolized by the liver and over time, cause liver enzymes to rise. Keppra (levetiracetam) is mostly excreted by the kidneys are is one of the safest drugs speaking in terms of therapeutic vs. toxic blood concentrations. Other drugs include zonisamide, potassium bromide, etc. A large percentage of dogs respond to one anti-seizure medication. For some, one is not enough and they need 2, 3, or 4 others!
Avatar n tn Hi, my son is on Keppra due to history of seizure. I was just wondering, if there are any long term effects or will it affect his liver or kidneys in the long run since he's only 11 years old.
Avatar f tn So after staying overnight and at the vet the next day he came home and has been on Keppra and phenobarbital. 500mg 2x a day Keppra and 60mg 2x a day pheno. He has the side effects which are lessening but hasn't been as bad as I read could be. He is very responsive and is pretty much himself besides the side effects(weak legs, tired). It's been 6 days and no seizures so far. Will be going to vet in a week for check up and blood test again. I am so on edge..
3242988 tn?1359306516 I have a bad liver. I am stage 3 fibrosis (fatty liver) stage 4 is cirrosisis. Keppra almost killed me. I still haven't recovered from that. I took oxcarbzephine for 1 week & same thing! I need the CBDs in mj not the THC which is what messes up the meds. Please, Please stay in contact with me! I'm so scared! My liver hurts from taking the last drug. I did a drug treatment for Hepatitis C that almost killed me and the mj helped tremendously.
Avatar f tn My daughter is now experiencing several side effects to keppra. She is extremely drowsy, very short tempered, depressed, and is reporting to me that her memory is 'foggy'. She's on a very low dose of keppra, only 250 mg at night and 125 mg in the morning. She's been on it a total of 3 weeks now. I've been with her and she seems to be very melancholy and also short fused over the many situations. She weighs 100 pounds and is 20 years old.
Avatar m tn My vet gave me a few choices and a lot of information, the main choice was between phenobarb (hard on the liver, need lab tests to check levels and liver function, given 2 times a dat) or keppra (not metastasized by liver, newer medication for dogs, given 3 times a day). To me there really was no choice, phenobarb would cut my dog's lifespan short so the small inconvenience of giving her a third pill each day is worth it.

Avatar n tn They are like a partial complex seizure. I saw a neurologist and was started on Keppra. I was up to 2,500mg a day and they were not stopping. I began to track them carefully and I believe I saw a pattern of only during the 2nd half of my monthly cycle, days 15 - 28 (and usually between 18 and 21) My neurologist decided to put me in the hospital to do a video EEG monitoring and I told him the dates it needed to be. We hit it right and it was determined that my seizures are NES.
Avatar f tn Anyone else on Keppra to prevent myoclonic jerks (JME diagnosed)? I am, and have been on Keppra for almost 5 years. Started at age 23 and I am now 28. At the beginning they made me very sluggish, but after about 2 months I felt wonderful (since it was the first time in my life I wasn't having seizures!!
Avatar n tn I have spinal myoclonus, there are many medications out there that can help. Clonazepam and Keppra are two I have tried, clonazepam helped me but I needed to increase dose. Keppra made me ill but everyone has different side effects. I am seeing neurologist soon to re-assess meds. Does your friend have a neurologist? I suggest that she gets an appointment for tests to find the cause of her myoclonus as there are many different types and causes.
Avatar f tn Was on lamicatal er when shaking started on right side of body but had a allergic reaction to it..
7486852 tn?1410352184 My new neurologist wants me to try depakote after keppra, dilantin, and dilantin and topamax together have failed. They did not control my seizures and I had horrible side effects. I have been using my medical marijuana which my neurologist never had anything bad to say about it just wants me to try another pill as well. I'm worried about the side effects and whether they will work when these others haven't..
Avatar f tn I to have been taking Keppra and told can't drive for six months, yesterday my Oncologist informed me that only a Neurologist can authorize driving and I will need to probably get off keppra to get permission to drive. Was also informed that you can not just stop this drug.
Avatar m tn 44 yr old male...Had a normal liver enzyme blood test in April (ALT-28, AST-32) while moderately drinking on weekends (5-7 pints beer). Since then, have been consuming a bit more (5-10 pints) on weekends, never during the week. I also occasionally smoke cigarettes... I feel strange ache under ribs on upper right, a bit to the side - like a bit around back almost.... but I also exercise with abs exercises during weekdays, so not sure what the source of the ache is...worried its liver region.
Avatar f tn My husband has occasional seizures. He's had them off and on most of his life but now they are getting more frequent and are worse seizures. He' 41. He currently takes Keppra twice daily and is on high blood pressure medicine (both of which have just been increased). He also takes Lorazepam for "emergencies" when he feels a seizure coming on. My concern is that his doctor may not fully understand how much he drinks (alcohol).
1596950 tn?1297352500 She had a prolonged partial seizure when she was 6 but has been seizure free since being on the keppra. Good Luck and may the Lord watch over you and your family.
Avatar f tn I am having a lot of anxiety for my upcoming appointments to get off of this medicine that has COMPLETELY taken over my life- I just kind of want to talk or get some input as to what to expect. My biggest fear is that the addiction specialist / internist is not knowledgeable with this class of drug (barbituates) - but she must, right?!!!!!! Just myself being pessimistic. I know I'm doing the right thing! My health is highly being jeopardized as well as having a LIFE!
