Keppra and high blood pressure

Common Questions and Answers about Keppra and high blood pressure

keppra

Avatar f tn He has been strangely absent, forgetful, stressed, and foggy since the seizure 5 weeks ago. His dizziness, head pressure and blackouts are back. He messed up a few days on his meds taking only ½ doses each night (switched to slow release and just forgot what to do in his fogginess). He had another seizure a few days ago. Please give any advice you have regarding what to do, what to ask Epileptic Center Docs in Denver. Are there test to get to the bottom of this? What about his heart?
Avatar f tn I have always had low blood pressure, and was glad because I thought it would lower the risk of an angioma bleed. (Not as low as it was getting after I started taking the keppra.) Not only that, but supposedly blood thinners like aspirin supposedly increase the risk of a bleed. The high salt diet has helped a bit. But how high can/should my blood pressure be before there is risk of another bleed. In the last few weeks or so, the left side of my face has started getting numb.
Avatar m tn (Do doctors not talk at all??) Now I am being treated on straight Keppra and am feeling the same things, tingling and numbness plus severe tiredness and weakness. All of my levels are normal though. Also feeling severe emotions, maybe it's just depression from the lack of being able to function? Have any of you noticed that most of the epilepsy medications are for mental disorders?
Avatar f tn I then weaned off the Depakote and went on to 1500 mg of Keppra and 100 Mg of Seraquel and went off of the Trazadone as Dr. Aurora said Trazadone causes headaches. She also said try EMDR therapy. We did 2 Keppra infusions and it brought my headache twice down from a 10 to a 6. Then I still went back up to a 10 and I was told to go to the ER by the Swedish clinic. I went to the Swedish ER. They gave me a Keppra infusion, Benadryl, and Toradol.
Avatar f tn ve only been having seizures for a year and some months now and when I was in high school I was an A/B student and I had no problems with completing work. I held a steady job for a year prior to having seizures and I was told I was a very out going employee. But now after being on keppra/ off brand of keppra I've found myself loosing the drive to do anything, start anything, or keep going at something.
Avatar n tn They are like a partial complex seizure. I saw a neurologist and was started on Keppra. I was up to 2,500mg a day and they were not stopping. I began to track them carefully and I believe I saw a pattern of only during the 2nd half of my monthly cycle, days 15 - 28 (and usually between 18 and 21) My neurologist decided to put me in the hospital to do a video EEG monitoring and I told him the dates it needed to be. We hit it right and it was determined that my seizures are NES.
Avatar f tn Your keppra doses werent high either, and yet you had a bad response to it. Please fill me in on this. Thanks so much.
1326416 tn?1370927001 From: aquaman444 Im a 56 year old man with high blood pressure and seizure disorder thats under control by taking keppra. In spite of my conditions i exercise 5 times a week--biking--walking--mostly cardio Recently i started getting spasms in my right calf while sleeping--very painful--lasts for 4 or 5 minutes The next day there is bruising in that same area as the muscle spasm(charley horse) The bruising has been lasting now for about 2 months.
Avatar n tn t once they have the side effect there is nothing to revers them.that is why they do blood work and have us watch for things and let us know what changes are happening, and will work with us to stop the medicine if they are having side effects that out way the risk. hope this helps and you should also talk to the doctor about everything you are feeling even if you have to ask it every time you see them.because this your child and you have every right to know everything there is to know.
Avatar m tn I started having seizures when I was 12 yrs. and they put me on dilantin and other meds. they never got under control so good until I went to a new doctor (because I moved) and at that time I was about 38, and the doctor did a MRI and other test. He then said to me the first thing we have to do is get you off of dilantin. He showed me that that pill was eating up half of my brain (it is called cerebellar atrophy). He slowly put me on different levels of Keppra and I haven't been better.
Avatar f tn , now they have added Keppra to his phenobarbital and after a visit with an animal neurologist, who believes my dog has a tumor based on some exercises he put him through, and added prednisone to the mix, I feel all of this is excessive and unsafe for my dog but he's never had any medical conditions before so I don't know what is 'normal' in doggie meds - are pheno-barbital, Keppra and Prednisone commonly prescribed together for seizures?
Avatar f tn I am pregnant with my second child. I'm 37 +2 and I have epilepsy. My 1st pregnancy was 11 yrs ago. I was actually on Depakote and high risk but I have a very health normal very active 10 yr old boy! I'm taking Keppra now and they still consider me high risk but the risk is much lower with Keppra then it was with Depakote. They have done several ultrasounds and baby is great!! They have me taking 1000mg of Folic acid in top of my prenatal vitamins.
Avatar f tn So after staying overnight and at the vet the next day he came home and has been on Keppra and phenobarbital. 500mg 2x a day Keppra and 60mg 2x a day pheno. He has the side effects which are lessening but hasn't been as bad as I read could be. He is very responsive and is pretty much himself besides the side effects(weak legs, tired). It's been 6 days and no seizures so far. Will be going to vet in a week for check up and blood test again. I am so on edge..
338416 tn?1420045702 I've been having these myoclonic (jerks? convulsions?) Meh... Don't know what to call them - but they sure are annoying. When they happen, my legs get really weak. It also seems to be associated with back pain - upper, lower, lumbar. On top of that, I can't feel my knees. They're numb to the touch, but more importantly, when I walk, I can't feel them. I can feel the pressure in my calves and thighs and feet, but not my knees - they're buzzy and floaty.
915119 tn?1341948989 if your blood pressure is too high it restricts the blood vessels and can stop baby from getting enough blood and oxygen. if it gets extremely high it can cause seizures. are you seeing spots or having blurred vision? I agree with bjbbeauchamp, try nor to stress! and if it goes up any more then go to L&D! its better to be safe than sorry! I have had HORRIBLE swelling in my legs for months now, but no protein in my urine until the other week.
Avatar n tn I am 35 years old and never thought I had HIgh Blood pressure until recently. As I am into my higher studies, when visiting the doctor for a fall, they told me I had high pressure readings of 160/110. My pulse was also high, ( I was diagnosed with tachycardia some years ago which was again put down to stress.) They put it down to anxiety and stress, and gave me atenenol 25 mg. Since then I have developed a fear, and my pulse raises whenever the doctor checks my pressure, and my pressure is high.
Avatar f tn 2wks tomorrow since surgery and still have tingle in feet and hands, and blood pressure still not going down, was 146/97 today. I just dont understand to be like 97/72 up till i fall asleep for surgery and to wake up this high, and stay that way. Dr says he dont know what to do next, what it could be. I know this cant be good to go on now with this high of blood pressure and nothing done about it. I dont know where to turn to next.
Avatar m tn 4 years ago after the birth of my child I was on 4 different medications. Today none, and my blood pressure is 100/60. All the ideas mammo gave you on exercise, low salt diet and more is what helped me get off medications and get my BP back on track. It isnt good to walk around with uncontrolled blood pressure so for sure get in as soon as you can and get things sorted around with your doctor.
Avatar f tn I have had high blood pressure my whole pregnancy, often as high as 170s/100. I was put on meds and told modified bed rest last week at 35w5d. Ihave not had to do urone collection as when it spikes they make me come back the following 2days for checks and urine samples. If it os still high this week at my 36w5d appt while on the meds i think they will probably put me on full bed rest until i deliver.
Avatar m tn I am a 58 year old female and my question is about high blood pressure and sex. While I understand blood pressure rises during sex I wonder if it is normal to get a sudden onset pounding migraine. This is new the last two times at climax. I was curious and checked my blood pressure the last time and it was 160/88. The headache is sudden and severe and remains for hours after. Is this something I should be concerned about?
Avatar f tn I went in at 35 weeks and 4 days and my blood pressure was high and they gave me meds and did a 24 hour urine test but during the night, even on the meds my blood pressure got to 180/110 and they c sectioned my baby that day.
