Keppra and hallucinations

Common Questions and Answers about Keppra and hallucinations

keppra

I read something on rxlist about moodswings and irritibility related to Keppra. It's believed that Keppra makes your brain "dump" Vitamin B6 at times which lowers dopamine or seratonin levels and makes you feel horrible. Does your daughter take vitamins? I'd try some Vitamin B6 if her multivitamin doesn't contain it. I started taking Trader Joe's High Potency vitamins and feel much, much better since starting. Good luck.
I have posted several time and just wanted to say I really like this service you provide. A little background: I'm 27 and have a diagnosis of OCD with obessions about injuring children, mental rituals and cutting rituals to neutralize these thoughts. Also, I have boughts of depression that are usually short-lived (usually not longer than a day...) and very intense. At 19 I was diagnosed with a seizure disorder (with an EEG).
i hear sounds that i know are not what i physically feel in back of head gurgling but like hallucinations and intense fear· i had an abnormal eeg and ekg· i have signs of ischemia in vessels significant to migraine headaches ansd foci in parietal and occipital regions also a few months after the car accident i was diagnosed with a boil that filled most of my sphenoid cavity· this was removed but on recent mri looks like it has began to come back. frustrated!

I can say that these spell activities were worse as a child, around age 12 or so, during my pregnancy at 18, and during birth control pill changes, high stress, lack of sleep, and of course, recently. I have been on 1500 mg of Keppra in the a.m. and p.m. and now have just been prescribed Zonagran with a referall to a university hospital for further testing. I have also had testing EEGs, MRI, CAT scans etc that were negative as far as I know.
Though unrelated to the eye reaction you asked about, Vivactil can interact with Keppra and Imitrex. Vivactil and Imitrex taken together can cause serotonin syndrome.
MY HUSBAND WAS INTIALLY ON LITHIUM, BUT BECAUSE OF THE SIDE EFFECTS HE WAS SWITCHED TO KEPPRA. I CAN'T FIND ANY INFO ON THAT. IS IT GOOD, WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS AND WILL IT MAKE HIM NOT SO "BI POLAR" WHEN IT STARTS TO WORK. I REALLY LIKED WHAT THE LITHIUM DID, BUT IT WAS POISONING HIM. BUT HE WAS REALLY HIMSELF FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A LONG TIME. HE HAS ONLY BEEN ON THE KEPPRA FOR ABOUT ONE WEEK. ITS LIKE HE HAS GONE BACKWARDS AND IS REALLY BIPOLAR NOW.
However, he adds new experiences that never took place today or in the past. He has hallucinations and paranoia. I have been told it is a delirum that will pass with time. I was told it could be days, weeks, months- no one knows. Is there anyone that has experienced delirum associated with a stroke? How long did it last? How did you cope with it? I really miss talking to my husband the way we did before.
I was put on Depakote, Respiradone and Keppra. It's been quite a ride. My main issues lately are the anxiety, panic and depression I have been experiencing lately because of numerous stressors in my life right now. It's so good to know that places like this exist. Thanks again!.
I also have a diagnosed seizure on my right temporal lobe. I currently am on Keppra for the seizures, and Adderall since I also may have ADD or it may be whatever I have, it helps though. I had an overnight sleep study done and I don't have sleep apnea so my Doctor is thinking I have hypersomnia or narcolepsy. Can anyone tell me what I may have? Or does someone also have these symptoms as well?
The emergency room put her on Keppra, that is when the real nightmare stared. She stopped sleeping, had wild mood swings, hallucinations, rage, screaming and attaching (no behavioral problems ever before this). She would hug me for an hour at a time, and leave blood scratch marks on my back. Anxiety was very high. We took her off the Keppra (a call to the children’s hospital confirmed to do this). She was on it only three days, and I would say hardly slept.
she has dyskensia and falls all the time! she is depressed, has anxiety, hallucinations, memory loss! she takes carbodopa/levodopa azilect keppra vitamin d 325 aspirin relora cerofolin and lepressor (for high blood pressure) does anyone else have these same problems. I am trying to come up with ways to help these mood swings as i get the brunt of them since i am family. she says some pretty nasty things to me! wondering if it would help to have her talk to someone.
Hi, I have multiple seizures every time I try to fall asleep. My Dr. also said that I wasn't having seizures and withdrew the keppra I was taking for seizure activity. While taking keppra I finally went 3 days without a seizure , but they started up again now that I am off. It really ***** and is often painful. My Dr. told me that I am having seizures but are non-epileptic and referred me to a psychologist. I don't really know what to do because I'm not sure I believe her diagnosis.
He ordered a 24 hour EEG and saw 3 seizure episodes along with numerous smaller ones during the test. I was put on Keppra this past month and it has helped my symptoms a lot and I am thankful that the two doctors questioned the anxiety diagnosis. I feel very grateful to them. Best to you in your journey.
The strange thing is that a whole bunch of stressors in my life have recently been resolved (of course new ones always seem to pop up and replace them) and I was very happy and relieved about that so shouldn't I be having LESS anxiety/panic attacks/sleep/dream issues?. I am on Keppra, Depakote, Rispiradone, Atenolol, Ativan and Prevacid but I have had all this weird stuff long before I was on any of these meds.
Temporal lobe epilepsy can cause memory problems, personality changes, feelings of depersonalization, language problems and/or hallucinations/psychosis in addition to more typical seizures. These problems are due to temporal lobe dysfunction often related to the underlying cause of the epilepsy. First I would recommend that you get an extended EEG, such as a 2 hour sleep deprived or a 24-72 hour EEG to assess your inter-ictal activity (Spikes, etc) and evaluate you for possible seizures.
I was initially scared about these hallucinations, but have since learnt to treat these hallucinations as somewhat normal. That's sad right :-) Anyways here goes..'m a - 37 yo male, fairly healthy, non smoker, occasional drinker. - Do have elevated triglycerides(300 ish) + cholesterol(200 ish) - About a couple of months ago, started noticing olfactory hallucinations(OHs). Initially it was rather random, but off later there is some sort of periodicity(approx 48 hrs) to it.
he had taking xrays of my brain and he saw that half of my brain was shrinking. He slowly took me off of Dilantin and put me onto Keppra. Ever since I have been on Keppra things have be better. I still have small seizures but not many and they are under control...........Please get off of Dilantin and onto Keppra.
The emergency room put her on Keppra, that is when the real night mare stared. I am wondering if it wasn't her stimming now. Her medicine is Keppra and she has a lot of the side effects from it. I mean the anxiety, agitation, aggression, hallucinations (although I think some of this is for attention), delusions, and so on. I tried to call, but she never got back with me. Her nurse that is familiar with our case is not working there any more so when I call I get to play phone tag and never get anywhere but aggravated.
” On this particular day I swore and cursed and raged and finally screamed each time I got close to seizuring – very unlike the real me – but was told to be polite and watch my mouth. They then transported me to a psych facility and about half way there I said, “take me back to the real hospital”… “I am seizuring” They then forced me out of their vehicle to walk (100 yds) -- to a psych facility. I told them I could not perform this maneuver and would seizure!
30am he had a toni-clonic seizure that was preceded by flashing lights and hallucinations(aura). all checked out normal at the ER. Two weeks later he had another tonic-clonic seizure at 05:30am. The aura was the same. Later this same day he had some partials that were preceded by flashing lights and hallucinations occuring in the pediatrician's office. He then suffered with these partials for three weeks before seeing a neurologist finally! His MRI's have all shown nothing.

You get all the fun stuff - manic energy, deep depression, anger, hallucinations, delusions, paranoia. Ive been there once all the way and it ended up with me in hospital after a suicide attempt - I was psychotic, parnoid and delusional and in a great deal of pain. Treatment. Stop taking the drugs - g to hospital, tell them how you feel, let them take you off the drugs in supervision and then keep you until you stabilise.
He just behaved like we were making him walk Death row.. But his behaviors really did not improve and he still was kicking and behaving baddly.... mostly at school.... then it started coming home.... aggressive behavior so I think it was this seclusion room.... maybe they were punishing him for behaviors he was having that were siezure related and not autism related???? Anyway.... We are again going back on topamax..... he lost alot of weight when he was on it the last time so Dr.
It can be a bumpy ride!
I only have nocturnal seizures taking 4 medications (Keppra, vimpat, onfi, and diazapam) and my husband asked my doctor if smoking mj could possibly help. She said it may, or may not. I tried it two weeks ago nightly right before bed, and almost every night I've had multiple seizures. Tonight I'm not going to smoke and see how I sleep.... Similar to taking meds, the results are different for everyone....
I was also having hallucinations auditory and visionary mostly at night and I was constantly responding to them and was not sleeping. My doctor thought I was having a psychotic breakdown. I guess for woman at my age if they are gonna have one that's when. I got admitted to the psych unit first, but the next day the staff found me unresponsive with a blood pressure of 76/44 and I got transferred to the ICU. That's how they figured out the encephalitis and meningitis.
She is currently in a rehab hospital (March 18) with paralysis on the right side (arm and leg) and has aphasyia - she understands us but has a hard time getting her words out (she does put small phases together at times).A speech therapist works with her and she can read, write some (copies words) and has progressed with food (a feeding tube to puree foods to soft - ground foods). The speech therapist has positive prognosis for speech improvements over the next year.
