Keppra and drinking alcohol

Common Questions and Answers about Keppra and drinking alcohol

keppra

He's had them off and on most of his life but now they are getting more frequent and are worse seizures. He' 41. He currently takes Keppra twice daily and is on high blood pressure medicine (both of which have just been increased). He also takes Lorazepam for "emergencies" when he feels a seizure coming on. My concern is that his doctor may not fully understand how much he drinks (alcohol). I'm wondering if this can interfere with his medicine or if it can cause seizures.
A few of my friends doind coke all the time and drinking of course would take 5 or 6 2mg xanax bars at a time and 6 or 7 somas to go to sleep each night and one of them had a heat attack at 25 yrs. old because he stopped taking the xanax for over a week. You'd think it was the coke and alcohol right? Not this time. Benzodiazepine w/d is dangerous no matter how young and healthy you are.
I understand that the medication switch and then my decision to stop taking them add to the increased risk of seizure, alcohol lowers your threshold, as does sleep deprivation and stress. do you think I run the risk of continuing seizures?
I was prescribed Topamax along with an appetite suppressant (Adipex) for weight loss a bit over a year ago and stopped taking them after two and a half months. I did not lose all of the weight I had wanted to, but most of it. I had gained 55 pounds while on Paxil over the course of two and a half years. By taking a combination of the two medicines, I lost 22 pounds the first month, 10 pounds the second month, and 8 pounds the first half of the third month.
or was watching the world through a movie projector, instead of through my own eyes and mind. Therefore, I am going to share with you all what *I* know about these phenomena, and hopefully reassure some of you that this is par for the anxiety course...it while irritating, maybe even maddening...it is totally harmless. Derealization and depersonalization are two terms that are sometimes used interchangably. Truth is, they DO vary a little bit in their presentation....
I have quit drinking , and I realize that I/m 48 years old and I do take medication for epilepsey tegretol and keppra and when I go to get my blood test for level be done then I have had epilepsey all my life .
I started having seizures at the age of 14, 1 per year until i was 18 then more frequently but that may of been caused by alcohol and late nights...and etc. I then moved when i was 20 and been sent to a neurologist for the 3rd time to find out info..
However, he said it could NOT be causing me so much pain. He checked out my arm and noticed a hard soft tissue knot, and suggested removing it through surgery and it "might" relieve my pain. So, 3 weeks ago I had the said surgery and it was removed (a hard soft tissue mass about the size of a marble). No, this was not the cyst inside my humerus bone. Anyways, I still have the pain, and it is extremely terrible at night (on a scale of 1 to 10, a 20 at night).
I took the medication but had one or two more low blood sugars that still brought the same symptoms, but they still want to keep me on the medication keppra. I recently went on an insulin pump and have had much better controll and have almost eliminated exstremly low BG levels. I have no idea what to do. everytime i go to the Dr they tell me I have epilepsy, my endocronoligist says i don't it was just cause by poor diabetes managment.
I drink about 2 gallons of water a day to stay hydrated taking all of these medications, though despite that, my mouth is still dry as if I had been out drinking the night before and I woke up with cotton mouth. I drink no caffeine, and the only other beverages I generally have are 2 very small glasses of reduced acid Orange juice to take the powder with, and a couple of cups of decaf coffee in the morning. I have been sober for 11 years, so no alcohol. I really need some advice from someone.
No more seizures or symptoms for two months now. Quit drinking alcohol, smoking weed and taking adderall. Unfortunately I may end up on the street before I can go back to work, I have had to sell anything I had worth a dollar just to eat and keep power on. Denied food stamps because my wife works, even though she only gets paid every two weeks. Already got one 3 day notice to pay rent or get out, managed to borrow enough to make it another month.
You're in the right place if you want off the Tramadol! You can do it! I believe in you!
Hi Tramadol Warriors! Welcome to Part 53. This thread is full of helpful and kind people who want to help you get off this terrible drug. Please snuggle in and make yourself comfy. I know you can do it!
During post ictal I'll babble in Indian and will not respond in English at all. The seizures began from alcohol withdrawal and delirium tremens, DT'S. I was detoxed with 12 mg's of Klonopin and now take about 8 mg's a day to sustain stability. I have bad side effects from the other anti-convulsant drugs. I have not had a seizure, that I remember in two months. My Neuro said Klonopin is best for Temporal Lobe Seizures. It is interesting that you speak another language too.
Here I am 40years old now and in March 2010 hhmm blacked out after drinking a bottle of wine head pounding for 2days and noticed big bump on head hhmm I had some weird things happen to me in the last 6 months and had blacked out twice one time over drinking 6 beers and its not me not handling my alcohol in take and Im not an alcoholic either another example I had eaten a bowl of bluberries which I have done before and my face on left side had swollen up fast in 2seconds numbness it went down al
I get the pain, numbness, jerking more when I've been eating sugar, or drinking alcohol. Processed food also makes the problem worse. If you can eat a lot of fruit and veg, stay away from sugar etc, and do some mild exercise, it will help. The other item of interest in the above posts is lack of oxygen. Narcoleptics tend to stop breathing through the night and wake suddenly because of lack of oxygen. This (for me) is associated with the twitches and so on.
D I just love you guys! Such honesty and kindness and willingness to help. It's such a blessing! I think this place attracts some of the most intelligent and caring people in the world. So gratifying. I haven't posted for a very long time ... but I will always keep this thread going. I remember so well the desperation I had to hear from anyone ... anyone about how they got off. Now there's years worth of posts from people round the world who kicked Tram.
was used to do like you, 4 years ago I was going to the university and was going out 4 nights a week... was a heavy drinker... and alcohol start trigger panic on me, so I was taking 1 beer + 1 Rivotril pill to prevent panic and was drinking another beer and taking another Rivotril pill to prevent panic... I ending with high addiction from the Rivotril...around 8-10 mg day... i'm surprise that I never passed out, since alcohol and benzos meds can't be mixed together...
Within 12 hours he went from completely sedate to eating drinking, walking and using the bathroom on his own. It has been 36 hours and I would say he is about 80% back to his regular self, but he is still showing side effects from the phenobarb (more than usual hunger, partial loss of coordination and hind end weakness and restlessness). Does anyone know how long it takes for phenobarb to get out of the system? The vet said approximately 12 hrs, but that is obviously not the case.
All I can tell you is that another 20 years has gone by, and I have not had a drop of alcohol and I have NEVER had those symptoms again...I've queeried many physician friends of mine to see if they've ever encountered this....NOPE....I guess it would take someone seriously interested in research to figure out what the HELL it is.... I will say that although all my tests came back O.K.
old son gets blue lips like me and like you all describe above. He also chokes when drinking water frequently and his whole face gets a red/purple mask appearance very rapidly when coughing. My mom was always noting my blue lips growing up - It confused her that I would tare jackets off and claim to be really hot meanwhile have blueish lips. My son also tears off hats outdoors unless it's below 0 and won't keep socks on even though his feet feel cold to me.
So, what dose did everyone here have their success? And what type of diet/eating plan and exercise plan did you do to help it along? I'm desperate to lose 40 lbs (half of which I gained on Zoloft-no longer taking). PLEASE respond if you had any weightloss on this drug, I'm very curious. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
I am a little overweight. I never drink soda and I've never wore contacts. I stopped drinking alcohol hoping that would help, but it didn't. I rarely get head aches, but like one person said sometimes I feel the bubbles somewhere else in my skull. I did get acid reflux for the first time ever recently so maybe they are connected, but who knows. I recently can hear a grinding sound when I turn my head too so I thought it could be linked to neck aging.
You need to continue the medication for couple of weeks as advised by your doctor and try to avoid trigger factors like alcohol, smoking and stress. It is better to consult a neurologist and get evaluated. Take care and updated on your thoughts and progress.
Not knowing how to explain it people is the worst part because I had to cover my eyes whenever someone was holding a pointy object near me and it looked so awkward. I have trouble drinking from a glass of wine which makes things more awkward when i end up drinking it from a mug. When I get the PRES (great way to name it btw) i usually rub my eyes with my fingers and that can get really irritating when I am Driving or when i am trying to sleep.
I went to a party where I had four vodka shots and I have been drinking wine with dinner almost every night...things I was planing to not do at all starting next month. I also competed in a Tough guy competition which involves climbing obstacles, swiming in disgusting muddy water and flinging myself over things. I also donated bloodon day 15...woudl this cause me not to ovulate??? Any answers are much appreciated...thank you.
