Keppra and caffeine

Common Questions and Answers about Keppra and caffeine

keppra

I continue to have seizures from time to time. Currently I'm on a very high dose of Keppra and seizues continue. Does caffeine consumption and lack of sleep increase seizure activity?
Hin Most probably your hair loss is due to the drug topomax . I am unable to understand why the neurologist is not accepting that. May be he feels there is some other cause.May be he felt you will benefit from this drug. But most antiepileptic drugs cause hair loss. And Topomax certainly causes hair loss. http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/topiram_ad.htm You can meet a skin speacialist to rule out any other cause.
I also eat fish, on occasion. I've cut way back on my salt intake and I don't drink caffeine. I don't smoke, I don't drink and I don't do illegal drugs. The only meds that I am taking, right now, are: Lasix, Potassium Chl, Oxycontin and Testim (Testosterone Gel). I'm taking the Testim, because I have no male hormones. My body stopped producing them, MANY years ago.
In early 2012 I thought I had a toothache due to shooting and burning pain so I called the dentist and went on a round of antibiotics and the pain left eventually. About a month later I had a burning pain in my ear and it felt as if my eardrum burst but when I had someone look inside, they said it was fine. I then had a lot of vertigo and dizziness.
My doc changed my migraine meds to KEPPRA for preventive and ATEX to take at the onset of headache. I dont find it to work too well. I was on ESGIC PLUS for years and it worked. Of course if I caught it in time. Tonight I am still not feeling well. Pain in the neck, behind ear, dizzy and nausas. I'm so tired of feeling bad. Of course the doc office did not call me back today! If I'm not feeling better tomorrow, I'm gonna call and raise cane!! Thanks to everyone for caring!
I was prescribed Topamax along with an appetite suppressant (Adipex) for weight loss a bit over a year ago and stopped taking them after two and a half months. I did not lose all of the weight I had wanted to, but most of it. I had gained 55 pounds while on Paxil over the course of two and a half years. By taking a combination of the two medicines, I lost 22 pounds the first month, 10 pounds the second month, and 8 pounds the first half of the third month.
or was watching the world through a movie projector, instead of through my own eyes and mind. Therefore, I am going to share with you all what *I* know about these phenomena, and hopefully reassure some of you that this is par for the anxiety course...it while irritating, maybe even maddening...it is totally harmless. Derealization and depersonalization are two terms that are sometimes used interchangably. Truth is, they DO vary a little bit in their presentation....
However, he said it could NOT be causing me so much pain. He checked out my arm and noticed a hard soft tissue knot, and suggested removing it through surgery and it "might" relieve my pain. So, 3 weeks ago I had the said surgery and it was removed (a hard soft tissue mass about the size of a marble). No, this was not the cyst inside my humerus bone. Anyways, I still have the pain, and it is extremely terrible at night (on a scale of 1 to 10, a 20 at night).
If you are only on the non Codeine containing Fioricet, then the only addictive substances we are talking about are the butalbital and caffeine. The neurologist should star you on Clonidine to help with sedation and Topomax to avoid seizures and recurrence of migraines. You can also take an over the counter chelated magnesium that has been found helpful for migraines. I want you to make sure that you have a back up plan for dealing with your problems.
My daughter was sick today so while she was being seen by her pediatrician I quizzed him on Keppra and he talked about seizures and an interesting comment he made was many many patients have one seizure and never have one again (he deals with kids remember) and it made me think that my seizure was possibly a fluke or just my brains way of coping with the huge stress I was under at at the time(old job).
Also in the past 6 months I've been experiencing very annoying gastrointestinal problems (diahrrea, heartburn, gas) that only seem to be getting worse. I've been cutting back on caffeine and alcohol suggested by sites that I've found researching my symptoms, but nothing seems to be helping. Midol only helps as much as any other regular pain reliever, which isn't much.
Before I was able to get an appointment to the EEG monitoring unit my Neurologist put me on Keppra and with minor changes in the dosage it finally began to work. I went 3 nights without having a seizure (before EEG testing). The Dr. has since taken me off of the meds and the seizures are back. It is very difficult to sleep or sleep for long periods of time and feel that I'm going somewhat crazy. Has anyone else had these same type of Symptoms????
After a month my symptoms were supposed to disappear went back to the doctor after 2-3 months and told her that I was still exhausted all the time and having random flu like symptoms with no fever. She told me it was Chronic Epstein Barr and that there wasn't much to do. I've not been the same...This past July I got really sick. High fever, weak, exhausted (sleeping 18 hrs)aches, sweats, and chills. After blood work I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease took 30 days of Doxycycline. It helped temp.
For various medical reasons, I am unable to take triptans, ergots, DHE, antiemtics, and narcotics. Depakote, IV magnesium, IV caffeine and IV steriods have been tried with no success. I have been on Trileptal for the past three years and am currently switching to Keppra. The migraines are always on the left side of my head in the eye, temple, and back of head. Nerve blocks in the back of the head are beneficial for that area but do nothing for the eye and temple pain.
The twitches can occur focally (one location) or generalized (many locations). Twitches can be related to anxiety/stress, caffeine, and often occur post exercise or muscular over-use. Another type of twitching, which is normal, is called a hypnic jerk. It occurs as we are falling asleep. Again it is exacerbated by stress or caffeine. For these symptoms, the best treatment is to reduce the caffeine intake and/or reduce the stress.
He gave me Topomax and Keppra for epilepsy and some medicine for the pain. When I got back to USA I went to the clinic for my MRI results. The Dr. told me my results came back normal. He told me to not take any more of the medicine I was given in Mexico because I do not have epilepsy. He said this medicine was not necessary and it could ruin my digestive system. He sent me to have a urine test and I had a minor infection. He gave me pills for that. He also gave me floxentine pills.
Hello, I have a question about infants and siezure. My son roughly about 4.5 months old has several (7)myoclonic siezures. They last at the very most about 20 seconds, most were only 10 seconds. His siezures consist of rapid flicking of his tounge. And sometimes (not every siezure) very minimal movement of his mouth. These siezures started on 9/22. The last siezure that he had was on 9/24 @ 12:00 pm. We immediatley visited our pediatrician and he recommended that we see a neurologist.
It reminds me of when I was pregnant with the twins early on when I could first see their kicks and flutters. It looks just like that and can last from 2 seconds to about 30 seconds. It’s fairly constant with only a short break of a few seconds to maybe a minute between flutter starting again. I have had these feeling before...I think everyone does but it would be one twitch or a very short series...not lasting days and not being very noticeable.
After 2 days I realised that I am having headache in right side of my head and discussed this with doctor. My surgen asked me to stop using it and so I did not use. Now on last Sunday May 20th, I had severe headache in my only right side of head which was not tolarable. I called doctor office and they admitted me on Monday. They run for CT scan, blood test and later MRI. They gave me very high dose of morphin to fix my headache.
I drink about 2 gallons of water a day to stay hydrated taking all of these medications, though despite that, my mouth is still dry as if I had been out drinking the night before and I woke up with cotton mouth. I drink no caffeine, and the only other beverages I generally have are 2 very small glasses of reduced acid Orange juice to take the powder with, and a couple of cups of decaf coffee in the morning. I have been sober for 11 years, so no alcohol. I really need some advice from someone.
I see black spots in my vision and my whole body hurts. I am currently on keppra, concerta, and clomapazapam!!! My nureologist says I have atypical migraines buti am not so sure. Please write suggestions. Thanks in advance!!
This EEG suggests the possibilty of cortical irrability, although there were no well-organized spike or sharp and slow waveforms seen and no clinical seizures observed. The questionable sharp activity which was only slightly higher in amplitude than the background activity making it difficult to firmly establish an underlying seizure diathesis. Clinical correlation needed. ******* Does this make sense to anyone? Do you think this is why he's now ordering a sleep study?
I find myself so closely examining every symptom is almost like being obsessive with what this is doing to my body. And I have to limit caffeine because of the palpitations seems it makes PVC's worse. I also agree that on a bad day nothing helps! The reason I am so nervous about seizure meds is because they have to build a blood level to be effective. I had that with Nortriptyline and kept having a rebound allergic reaction for a couple days while the level subsided.
Also, I started taking headache meds with ibuprofen and caffeine in it. Made in japan. I take one pill a day. Sometimes two. It is supposed to reduce swelling, inflammation, alleviate pain, etc and the caffeine in it helps keep you warm in winter. Also, I'd suggest eating broccoli daily. It is a question of will, coz many people don't like broccoli. By the way, have you ever tried Keppra? If you get a chance, you may wanna give it a shot.
I found eating a small amount of carbs helped the med to not upset my stomach so bad, But eating a full meal before taking the med caused it to take too long to get to the small intestine and much of its usefulness was wasted. Also, caffeine and an ingredient in cold meds caused a reaction for me if I tried to sleep afterward - very agitated and restless. One more thing, if you also have movements in your sleep, allow the med to get in your system before going to sleep.
Hi there and welcome. So, you have been on Zoloft total for 4 days and are on 25 mg? To ease your mind, that is an extremely low dose with most being on over 100 mg. What you are experiencing are transient or 'start up' side effects. I don't think it is low blood sugar that you are experiencing but you can always get that checked. Shakyness can happen as these types of drugs are introduced. But it should go away fairly quickly.
You're in the right place if you want off the Tramadol! You can do it! I believe in you!
She has tried medications (amitriptyline, amlodipine, propranolol, keppra and gabapentin), biofeedback, physical therapy, eye exercises and has recently started acupuncture. So far nothing has helped the continuous headache which slowly gets stronger.
