Keppra and birth control pills

Common Questions and Answers about Keppra and birth control pills

keppra

I am a 41 yr old, 242 lbs (very over weight) 5'4" female. I had a small hole repaired in my heart, PFO, 6 years ago. I also have heart arrhythmia's. I am currently taking Plavix, Asprin 81 mg, Toprol XL 200 mg, & Keppra 1000 mg for a mild seziure siorder. I am also a kidney patneit not on dyalisis just have to be watched, I just get infections a lot, this I was born with. I have 2 fairly simple questions I would like a another opinion on.....just being safe :) #1.
i just started taking keppra and prior to keppra i was on depakote i was on depakote 4 bouut 15 yrs and new bout the side affects reguarding liver and having to do blood count i was ok w that but now here i am depakote free for 9 months taking keepra 750mg=3000 daliy yet i can skip it for time and days and there i go having seizures yet id skip like a month at times w depakote cuz i was doing drugs at that time and realized it takes like 5 weeks of no depakote be4 id be laying out w seizures but
Also, they did a MRI and found NOTHING out of the ordinary... Not until I wanted to get on birth control, did they change my medication. Dilantin and the pill do not mix. Dilantin cancels out the pill so my neurologist put me on depakote. (which I LOVED). Right away, it worked ten times better for me. I took it at night before I went to bed since it caused drowsiness. Everything worked fine. When I was 20, I was moving and misplaced my pills and went two days w/o taking my medication.
With the encouragement of family and friends I made it through the initial onset of the side effects and they've subsided. My headaches are minimal and my depression is under control and I haven't been able to say that in 3 years! I too have struggled with my weight due to all of the anti-depressants I've been on and off, and on again.... but this combination works for me.
He was saying (or Dr Gee the medical examiner was saying) that one woman presented with seizures which were actually caused by blood clots in the lungs. They were saying that two causes of this are dvt and birth control pills. I just found it of some interest. It probably doesn't apply in your situation, or even my mums.
What if you said to him that if he does decieve you again, you will 'give up' and let him have control of the pills....because then I think we all know what will happen.... he will use the months supply in a week and end up cut off. Which would be TERRIBLE..... but perhaps if you say that you cannot live this way any more, he will get some respect and follow his contract and not badger or decieve you for pills. You are still a young woman.
There are a lot of overworked doctors out there who want to dismiss you with a convenient diagnosis, hand out the pills, and move onto the next patient. You MUST take charge of your health care. Let me know if there's any way I can assist you, on_the_up. You'll be in my thoughts.
However, he said it could NOT be causing me so much pain. He checked out my arm and noticed a hard soft tissue knot, and suggested removing it through surgery and it "might" relieve my pain. So, 3 weeks ago I had the said surgery and it was removed (a hard soft tissue mass about the size of a marble). No, this was not the cyst inside my humerus bone. Anyways, I still have the pain, and it is extremely terrible at night (on a scale of 1 to 10, a 20 at night).
I am a 30 year old Latina female with a history of hashimoto's thyroiditis and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. I was on birth control pills and stopped them November 2008. On January 13, 2009 during a meeting at work, i was trying to speak and couldn't quite get the words out and I passed out and I was taken to the emergency room. I was admitted into the hospital due to very high CPK levels. Initially the emergency room MD thought I had a case of Vasalvagal Syncope.
Some women have catamenial epilepsy, or epilepsy which is directly related to hormones, and thus take birth control pills to help regulate their period, or stop it all together. Every case is so different.....many cases are not affected by hormones alone. Whatever happens, don't let anyone on the job discriminate/fire you simply because of your epilepsy. You should not feel ashamed or embarrased.
He put an IV on me because he said I looked dehydrated. He gave me pills for the pain and I went home. I took them and they sort of helped. A couple days later, I felt pain around my eyes, cheeks, ears, and nose. I also felt like something cold was dripping from the inside my head. My mom thought it was mucus. She thought it could be a sinus infection. So I put on nose spray for about two weeks. The headaches got worse that I could not sleep at night.
Clonazopam, Clobazam and Keppra were all unsuccessful at keeping the jerks under control. He mentioned that there is a possibility that I might have lupus and I would just like to get your opinion on the matter.
I take Lithium, Levoxol (thyroid med), Cymbalta, Wellbutrin, cytomel (thyroid med), Tamazapan (for sleep), birth control pills to regulate hormone levels, Lamictal (and I just stopped the abilify). I feel like a junkie - and I happen to be a recovering alcoholic and addict, so I have to be very careful about what meds I take. Does tardive dyskenesia usually go away after a short period of time? Does it mean that some part of my brain has been damaged?
It can be a bumpy ride!
D I just love you guys! Such honesty and kindness and willingness to help. It's such a blessing! I think this place attracts some of the most intelligent and caring people in the world. So gratifying. I haven't posted for a very long time ... but I will always keep this thread going. I remember so well the desperation I had to hear from anyone ... anyone about how they got off. Now there's years worth of posts from people round the world who kicked Tram.
/1x/day and on weekends it increases to 20mg./10mg am and 10mg pm). He is also on Keppra and Lamictal for seizure control. His other meds include Albuterol, Rhinocort, and Allegra. We are concerned with our son's weight and, of course, other medical problems. However, the GI doc. says we are doing a good job. He was diagnosed with anemia, failure to thrive and severe constipation in Sept. '07. In July '07, he weighed 69 lbs. and has not gotten back to baseline.
I do have hypothyroidism and barretts esophagus (ulcers and acid reflux caused this). I do not take birth control and have not in almost 6 years (due to vein problems). These attacks started a couple years after the birth control. Hopefully one of our doctors can nail this one on the head so we can start living with some normalcy again.
like I said it took 3 years for her to get those effects and it was because her high levels.her effects are no control of her rear legs.sleeps all the time, and no motivation.hope this helps someone.
hey bubblegirl, i also take vitamins, minerals and supplements. i use pharmanex products....8 pills a days and gac juice...its an antioxidant. i work out and use protein powder 2-3 times a week. not sure how all this affects my topamax just yet as tonight is my 7th day on it. i started with 50 mg on days 1-3 and increased to 100mg from days 4-6. just started 150mg tonight, so we'll see how things go.hate the thought of being on more pills, but my migraines are debilitating!!!!!!
seizures cant be cured only meds will keep them in control.taking pills every day will help control seizures and besides taking a pill every day you can lead a normal life and acheive your dreams.you need to get blood work done to make sure your level is correct.as far as warning signs not everyone has them.try to think back-did you feel weak-strange foggy feeling?
It reminded me of when I had my spinal for my 2nd son's Csection birth. I'm actually able to lay down and sleep some which was nearly impossible before. It is crazy how much of a difference the injections made. Going into the procedure I tried to be as positive as possible because I had good results with my knee. My sister and I stayed up REALLY late last night so I went to bed late (6am late!) and ended up sleeping badly, tossing and turning.
I am not on birth control, and have not been having unprotected sex. I have taken 2 urine pregnancy tests, both negative. i really have no clue what to do. I am a college student, and I do not have medical coverage outside of the health center on my campus... however, they are good for nothing there, and have not been able to give me any answers. I am totally open to any information that can be offered, or any suggestions as to what I should do...
later i so a naturist doc and he said i had an infection in my ovaries( he said maybe i got after giving birth) and tread me for it with natural med it help and i havent had any problems since then. but now my 16 year old sister in-law is having chills and numbness and along it anxiety attacks so they think she is got paresthesias but i doesnt really add up with her.... and she has not just most but i believe ALL of the above we need help too...
She did say that he had a virus (mouth, hand and foot...whatever that is), but said to control the fever and he would be fine. Of course the blue lips happened later after the doctor’s office was closed. Both our mothers are Registered Nurses and had never heard of it. After reading these blogs, I'm just going to monitor him since most went to the ER and nothing was wrong. He seems fine other than being fussy and is not having any difficulty breathing.
So, what dose did everyone here have their success? And what type of diet/eating plan and exercise plan did you do to help it along? I'm desperate to lose 40 lbs (half of which I gained on Zoloft-no longer taking). PLEASE respond if you had any weightloss on this drug, I'm very curious. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
he is on a small dose of meds for depression and many for high blood pressure, prostate enlargement, fiber ,cholestrol, and vitamins, fish oil, calcium, cranberry pills. He is feeling so depressed now and has no appetite. we are worried and are wondering if more gains can be made after six months. he has just started to move his shoulder and hip along with his knee sometimes. we thought that maybe because he had such a rough start it would take more time to make gains .
Hi bobito, how are you? Hope you are feeling better now? Are your tremors under control now and letting you to have a normal sleep? At your age, as discussed early also stress seems to be a trigger factor due to less activity and sleep deprivation. You need to get evaluated by a neurologist and get investigated. Have you checked your blood sugar and blood pressure? Even an EMG study would be helpful. Taking too many medicines also is not advisable so seek medical advise by a neurologist.
I also experience these weird pains in my head that come for about a second and then go and come back again every 10minutes or so. These pains are in 1 area in the back of my head in about a 1 square inch area.. Any ideas???
That's the perfect description. I've been examined by some of the best eye and brain docs around and no-one can explain it, but I'm determined to get to the bottom of it. Can you email me - tomsav-**-*****-***-*** as I have questions galore to ask you all about causes etc. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of it together!
