370181 tn?1595629445 Thanks so much for your response, selma. I didn't think about the vagus nerve being a possibility and I'd never heard of the condition you called "silent reflux." I was just incredibly relieved you didn't immediately say "run to your cardiologst as it might be a heart attack!" That is what I was fearing someone would say.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your help forgot to mention I had endoscopy and hpylori blood test bout a year ago.I do have a lot of indigestion and have lost 45 pounds.I just worry bout the jaw pain and sweating have resorted to xanax to deal with it!!! it's ruining my life...if you think of anything else please let me know and I'll c my GI again.
Avatar m tn I don't know what's wrong with me but I get this strange feeling in my throat and I have a visible vein on my throat not so visible but visible I hope it's not a vagus nerve no pain when swallowing I just feel I like a lump when I cough and my muscle shake when I burp what can it be
Avatar n tn The disk slowly resorbs and the patient feels no pain. However, as the protective mechanism of the disk is lost, the jaw joint starts to rub on the skull bone/brain tissue and the body starts to exhibit signs of pain transmitted as migraines or headaches. Basically, the jaw joint remains symptomless because you use it so many times during the day (over 5,000 times) that your brain adapts to its underlying problem. Remember, the joint becomes "dumb.
Avatar f tn The reason that I am asking this question is because my problems seems to correlate with the Vagus Nerve. These days my most important symptoms are not that people are being allergic to me (which is still happening and really annoying) but that I don't feel rested and feeling like I have no energy at all, furthermore I have a lot of breathing problems and a painful not rested neck.
Avatar m tn Try natural nootropics that will stimulate the vagus nerve and production of acetylcholine. I have stomach acid issues, that lead to shooting pain in my back and all the way up my jaw. Then the next day I get a ton of pac's with bad indegestion. Last night I ate and went to bed, this morning and all day it's been nothing but pac's. I need to have an endoscopy to see on a have hernia or something. I want this to stop it's been a nightmare for me the last few months.
1590446 tn?1297148470 I am 19yrs old, female, healthy weight. I have had chronic rib pain for MANY years. As far back as a can remember i would get this "aching" feeling in my lower left rib (near the very bottom), always in the same exact spot. In the past it would come and go and wouldnt come back for a long time. However, in the last year or so, it has started aching way more frequently. (sometimes daily as opposed to maybe every few months or so in the past).
Avatar f tn My husband was dx about ten years ago with systematic Cardiac heart bridge of LAD. He has been controlled with procardia and atenolol but somehow when he filled his meds for the week he missed putting in the procardia after four days he had an episode of severe chest pain rushed to the hospital was put on nitroglycerin his pain did not go away but the doctor felt since his enzymes were only slightly elevated that he discharged him saying it must be gastric in nature.
1759188 tn?1324678308 and I had the ear pain, it felt as though someone jabbing me with an ice pick....and I also had jaw pain....I would wake some days and it felt that I slept in a position that my jaw held my whole body up....which I know is not so....I also use to get this weird spasm when I would yawn in my throat/neck... Most of that is all gone with my surgery...the fact it is neuro it is hard to track down it does not leave a trace....or tracks as to what it could be...Chiari is very sneaky.
Avatar m tn this shoulder pain persists throughout the whole day.. The less shoulder pain it seems i get the lesss chest pain. I can almost predict when the pain is coming just by how heavy my shoulders feel. I never get heartburn anymore. I often get these chest pain by simply sitting, while driving, Another weird thing is after getting a pain and it subsides, it can walk a long timer with no pain. I never feels out of breath.
Avatar f tn The Hiatal Hernia Syndrome (HHS)--by pinching the Vagus Nerve--causes Vagus Nerve Imbalance (VNI). This imbalance is usually a hyperexcitability, but a decreased energy state is also possible at some point in time. In a Hiatus Hernia, or Hiatal Hernia, the upper portion of the stomach protrudes through the opening (hiatus) in the diaphragm muscle. I urge the reader to go beyond any preconceived notions that this condition only causes GERD (acid reflux) and minor discomfort.
Avatar n tn I just want to comment on the pain that radiates from your stomach to your jaw. I actually get the same thing, quite often, and it actually runs to the left side of my head (above the jaw). I suffer from GERD and get esophageal spasms. Sometimes that pain will last several hours. I have no doubt it is the vagal nerve. There really is nothing else it could be. I also get the sick feeling when I'm hungry. I've been on prevacid for over 10 years, tried others, but this works the best.
738075 tn?1330575844 OK, here's a weird one...I often have spasms in my legs, hamstrings, triceps, hands, the SO not aptly named "MS Hug", etc.,last night, I had a new one. This woke me up...a spasm involving my right upper palate! Felt like my teeth were going to fall out! It took maybe only 2-3 minutes to settle down, and as it settled down, the spasm relaxed from the back molar up to my central incisor. In the past, I've had Trigeminal neuralgia involving the right side of my head.
Avatar m tn Every time I drink Tea (whether it is hot or warm) I get first a pain in my chest, almost directly between my breasts, but then also pain in my abdomen area. I have no clue what this is and don't want to go to a doctor if its something that just takes a couple days to go away. If you have any ideas please help!
Avatar n tn 9 months ago I had a cyst removed in my throat and during surgery the docs cut a 1 inch hole in my pharax. I couldn't eat solid foods for 7 months and even now I am in continuous pain, have trouble swallowing and eating and I have constant pain behind my head and in my ear. I found out a few months ago that the docs also damaged the vagus nerve number 10. I have been told that there is no cure for me and I will stay in pain. Are there any other options out there?
Avatar f tn I have a 2cm hiatal hernia that is making me very symptomatic and creating Vagus Nerve irritation. Part of my stomach is actually above my diaphragm. I had a consultation with a surgeon and will be having surgery after the GI doctor finishes some "swallow" tests on my esophagus. In the meanwhile, I have to keep dealing with the symptoms (chest pains, arm and neck pains, reflux, abdominal pain, tachycardia, anxiety, and random spasms).
Avatar f tn I also have severe hpermobile joints in my neck and back causing pain, tight muscles etc. I also wonder if that is causing stress on my vagus. It does seem that the stress of worrying over it makes it worse but so many times it just starts out of the blue which leads me to believe it is not self created.
1338953 tn?1276126156 I recently went to the hospital for heart attack symtoms and i am fine. This can only mean its the hiatle. I have a very simple job, I tie down a truck and drive it...that's all, I went grocery shopping...thats all, and i can barely do that anymore. I do the breathing, relaxation and heating pad when i get home. Sometimes a cold pac at work but it's getting to the point where the only time i feel good is when I'm doing nothing.
1830047 tn?1321667793 Does anyone know how to calm a hyper vagus nerve? Mine has been fluttering in my upper abdomin for weeks now and the last day or two it has gotten almost unbearable. No pain, just the flippy-floppy fluttering that makes it hard to talk and breathe. Not worried about croaking. Just need some relief/rest.
Avatar n tn Lately I've had dizziness, pain in the back of my head and now pain around my face (sinus) and in the left side of my throat when I swallow and pain in my left ear. Anytime my head goes back I get dizzy. So sometimes it's hard to work or just get out of bed.
Avatar f tn I have this constant feeling of something being stuck in my throat, abdominal pain, chest pressure, jaw pain, and left arm pain. I am at a loss right now, does anyone have any input of this? I go back to my GI doctor on Tuesday, and I am hoping that maybe he can find a reason for all of this. Sorry if I am rambling but I really want to get to the bottom of this. I never had any problems until I got pregnant in 2006 with my son, which is when they think my hiatal hernia developed.
Avatar n tn There is something called VBLOC which is Vagus Nerve Blocking Therapy, not sure what that entails. If the Vagus is overstimulated, blood vessels dilate and the heart slows down. Vagal stimulation will aggravate the degree of AV Block. Autonomic neuropathy, from Diabetes, injures the Vagus Nerve. There is a test for C.A.N. (cardio autonomic neuropathy). You might understand this part, I don't...
Avatar n tn I'm glad I found the site too. I have all the same symptoms that a lot of the others do. Neck pain, tingling down the arms and neck, bloating, gas, irregular heart beats, GERD on and on. What I haven't heard mentioned is asthma and allergies and excessive mucus production. I have pretty bad asthma and it's been on the rise as a whole in children and the general public. The plastic bottle theory is interesting. Wonder what effects it may have on the nervous system.
Avatar n tn It is a combination of both the vagus nerve ( the parasympathetic nerve) and sympathetic nerves. During rest it is mainly kept in check by the parasympathetic nerve, which generally decreases the rate and speed of conduction of the native heart impulses. When your exert yourself, this vagal input decreases and concomitantly the sympathetic system causes both an increase in the heart rate, increase in the conduction speed, and increases your blood pressure.
