jaw-pain

Avatar f tn I have felt pain on and off the entire time since but this weekend I got to where I could hardly open my mouth to eat without having a lot of pain. I know I need to go to the doctor but I do not have the money to go. Just wondering if anyone had any ideas to ease some of the pain.
Avatar f tn When I went back to the dentist to have the crown put on, I mentioned the jaw pain to her. She said that it happens and could have been from having my mouth open too wide or from the injection hitting a nerve. (I do remember an almost shock or jolt when she gave me one of the shots.) She prescribed a corticosteroid pack to be taken over a 6 day period. Today is the last day of the pack and the pain came back with a vengeance this morning.

Avatar n tn About 10 days ago I had a root canal done on my left lower last molar. My dentists have always commented that I have a very small mouth. She used a prop device placed on the right side but for much of the procedure asked me to open wider since she had to get way into the back. The root canal procedure went well but since then I have had alot of pain in my jaw joint (actually on the upper jaw) and difficulty opening my mouth very wide.
Avatar n tn It was healing ok but 5 days ago while biting a sandwich my jaw made a loud popping sound and since then i am not able to open my mouth more than an inch. i also have alot of swelling. What coul this be?
Avatar m tn I have had a nagging pain in the back of my mouth for almost 3 months now. The pain is located in the hard palate area above my molars on the right side. Dental X-rays have revealed that nothing is wrong. My wisdom teeth are still intact, but 3 dentists and 2 oral surgeons have assured me that they do not need to come out and would not be causing the pain. The pain is like a sharp pressure in that area of my mouth. Almost feels like a sinus infection in that palate/gum region.
Avatar n tn My mouth will not open and close evenly and when I lay down my jaw locks up and I can’t open my mouth. When I’m up it always pops on the right side opening and closing my mouth while talking and chewing. I would like to know why it does this and what is causing this and if it can be treated. I am in pain everyday with this problem and it is very frustrating. It started a few years ago and it is getting worse. Please help!! Thanks!!
422172 tn?1215990852 That stands for tempomandibular joint (if I remember correctly). It means the hinges that allow your jaw to open. The hinges are right next to your ears. If you touch or manipulate the bad side, does it hurt there? Your dentist can confirm whether or not you have this disorder. It's not usually part of MS, but it can be. I had a lot of trouble there for several months in '06, but it finally abated and has not retuned.
Avatar n tn I knew when they were doing it that they were pulling fairly hard on my jaw and possibly unhinging it as I go to a chiropractor often to get my jaw aligned. I told them of the pain in my jaw as they were yanking and pulling but they said the bottom right was on a nerve and that was what was causing the pain. They sent me home and three days after the extractions, I noticed a very hard bump in my lower right jaw about an inch from my mouth that was hot and tender to the touch.
Avatar n tn I am more inclined to think that the trismus is related to the injection. I suggest you try to force open your mouth a little at a time each day. You might try using tongue blades between your teeth and increasing the number each day. If this does not work then you might have to go to an oral surgeon and under sedation have your jaw opened to break any adhesions that are present.
Avatar m tn You should make an appointment with your doctor to get checked out. The doctor would run some tests to find out what is causing these symptoms.
Avatar m tn A week has gone by from all four impacted wisdom teeth were surgically removed. My jaw on the right side feels like it is locked. I can only open my jaw 1 inch. When I try to open it farther I get excruciating pain and it won't open. Left side is fine. I was very swollen the first three days after surgery. What should I do?
1694492 tn?1372902994 The one side really hurt and it felt as if the jaw muscle was bruised. I decided not to force it open and let it pass. I am still able to talk, brush my teeth (I do have a little trouble with the back molar), and I can eat. Only I can't chew anything hard, so I am eating soft foods. When I yawn my mouth opens to a certain extent. It's not a lot either...only enough where I can still do my daily things. What is wrong with my jaw?
Avatar n tn begin to do jaw excersises....moving jaw right to left 10 times...slowly...then open and closing jaw 10 times....maybe 4 times a day.
Avatar f tn You may want to just try a pain clinic until we can find an answer. I know how it is tho. Its hard to even want to talk to people and so hard to get someone to understand what you're going thru. I am still looking for answers and will keep you updated. thanks again for writing.
Avatar f tn I have had three rounds of injections in the mandibular joint. I have a stiff jaw, hard to open wide enough to eat, sore but no visible swelling. Back in the 80's I was a chairside assistant and seem to remember something about gently chewing gum to exercise th e joint and get it to loosen. Is this still ok? How long can I expect it to take for my jaw to loosen up enough to eat with out difficulty?
Avatar n tn There is NO PAIN except when I open my mouth....the jaw hurts, or the muscle in the jaw. Is this from the shots the dentist gave me before he extracted the tooth?
2932946 tn?1344722012 She also goes to a chiropractor for them to adjust her jaw. When he does her jaw, he only manipulates her mandible, so it may be ok for Chiari patients to try.
Avatar m tn Also my jaw hurts at the hinge when I try to open my mouth the most I can open is 1/2 inch. Most worrying is the hard swollen area at the left hand point of my jaw just below where the tooth was extracted. Is this normal or do I have a problem. I've had to take a few days off school as I look like I've been in a street fight and cannot talk properly because my jaw hurts at the hinge if I try to talk too much. How long will this last?
Avatar f tn I think I have TMJ, although no dentist has agreed with me, but my jaw clicks and I can see it shift when I open my mouth. So now I have this jaw pain that almost seems connected somehow to my neck -- just not sure if it's a possibility?? And how can I relieve it??!!?? Any input is appreciated!
Avatar f tn Well that was about 3 years ago, lately in the past 6 months i been having jaw pain and sevre discomfort.was told it was inflamation but within weeks i can no longer open my jaw wide. Before i was able to open up about four fingers high now i can only open it less than two fingers. The pain is most severe on my right side, its affecting my right ear. I have strong discomfort in my ear everytime i open my mouth.
1947337 tn?1331423890 Try to pin the tip of your tongue to your bottom teeth. Then try to open your mouth straight without your jaw popping out of place. Many times if you have TMJ, your jaw joint will fall out of socket. This exercise will help your muscles to strengthen the correct placement of it. Untreated TMJ will cause all sorts of ungodly pain, neck pain and even shoulder pain and migraines. There is also a dental contraption you can have fitted and wear to bed. It's like a retainer.
Avatar f tn t even yawn in peace anymore or even brush my teeth properly without feeling pain when I try to open my mouth more. This has gone on for three days. I feel a swelling-like bump when I touch the outside of my face. At first I thought it was because of my only grown wisdom tooth because that side of my mouth is where I feel my jaw is locked. That wisdom tooth hasn't bothered me ever since it first started growing, so I didn't think it's because of the tooth.
Avatar n tn I had pain in my jaw too and could not open my mouth to eat more than 1/2 inch. The dentist opened my mouth too wide . This problem went away after 3 days. Next time the dentist did not open my mouth so wide. I have a very small mouth so the average person may be able to handle their jaws to be opened very wide. Next time make sure you tell your dentist not to open it so wide. I think your jaw will get better in time. I would suggest taking Advil due to inflammation. Hope this helps.
1175033 tn?1492201228 The popping was its worse ever, yawning was terrible and I thought my jaw was going to dislocate it was getting so bad. So my mom told me to try to not open my jaw to that point and don't let it pop. That is what I did, and at some point my jaw quit popping all together....but now I cant open my jaw past a certain point. im not sure if the procedure worsened it even more.
