Jaw pain after getting a crown

Common Questions and Answers about Jaw pain after getting a crown

Avatar n tn THe pain continued so the dentist removed the crown and gave me root canal treatment and fitted the permanent crown. The pain has continued. It is a dull continual ache that extends into my ear and jaw. Reading blogs online it seem that the nerve in my jaw may have been damaged. Anyone gone through similar experience? Do I need to go back to my dentist or to a neuro doctor?
Avatar n tn There was a cavity that the dentist was going to try to just fill but he said it would be better to go with a crown because I would probably need one in a couple of years anyway. The temporary crown was perfect. No pain whatsoever. The perm. crown was ok for about a week. Then it started to hurt when I would chew on that side. There was pain in the tooth and in the jaw area. I went back to the dentist and he said my bite was off and filed it down. It still hurt.

97628 tn?1204462033 I got a dental crown on a lower right molar (1st molar ) two years ago. Shortly after the placement of the crown I started getting non stop dizziness. It was first diagnosed as Labrynthitis and then later as BPPV. I had paroxysmal dizziness for 15 months (despite maneuvers to help) after. MRI of brain was done, fine. Echocardiogram was done that showed a mild MVP, nothing else.
Avatar n tn I had a huge filling taken out of my tooth and never felt any pain. Core crown build up around the tooth and a temp put on, never had any pain. A month later he puts the permanent crown on, I feel drastic pain. If the dentist puts the crown on, make sure he does you occlusal right. I never knew if an occlusal was not done right, it could cause alot of things in your facial area to go wrong. Including TMJ. good luck. ps make sure you get a good dentist or expert to do any work.
Avatar f tn I had a crown procedure 3 weeks ago today on my very last bottom tooth and am still suffering from incredible pain in my ear and jaw. I have been to urgent care and returned to the dentist. She performed an xray and said the tooth is fine. I was first given Valium and Aleve for relief. The relief from this treatment last about 1 hour and the severe pain returned. I was then put on flexoril which takes the "edge" off for a couple of hours.
Avatar f tn In December of 2009, I went for a cleaning and the dentist suggested getting a crown on a tooth with a large filling. He stated that there was no need for a Root Canal. After the procedure, I continued having pain and ended up having to have a root canal. One month later, I was back in the office with severe pain. After many visits with no resolution. My jaw swelled up and I had to have the tooth removed. This required me to get a bridge.
Avatar n tn Remove the temporary crowns. Usually your pain will diasappear shortly after removal of temporary crown. If these teeth are vital, you may experience sensitivity to cold stimulus. However, it's generally tolorable. Then, go back to your dentist to adjust the bite until you feel perfectly comfortable with the temporary crowns. If temporary crown is not successful, the final crown is not likely to work well.
Avatar m tn t have nerve damage that is causing this pain as I have had crown in previous years and experienced pain for only a brief period.

Avatar n tn I would get a second opionion or go see a prosthdontist. I ended up in serious pain from two crowned teeth, the crowns are ill fitting. Prosthodontist is the one who found my problem. In fact If it were not for this site I may have not have ever found the answer to my problem. Did you have a root canal done? I ended up with getting two root canals on my crowned teeth and my occlusal adjustments.
Avatar n tn Since then I have both pain and sensitivity and the pain is getting worse. I take aspirin about three times a day and usually the pain starts a few hours after eating and now in the middle of the night. It's a dull ache that seems to be more in my jaw than tooth, but the sensitivity to hot/cold is definitely in the tooth. My bite seems to be too high and I've been told that this can cause the problem.
Avatar n tn I have posted previously about pain over my front teeth after after having a porcelain crown over the second to the rear back tooth. I have recently examined my mouth and gum areas and am fairly certain that my right front tooth is now sticking up and has shifted slightly. They are tight together and when I tilt my head up I can see easily where they are no longer aligned. I clearly remember my teeth being straight before. Is this at all possible?
Avatar n tn It could be the bite or it could need a root canal. Sometimes after a crown is placed, the tooth can be sensitive due to the trauma of drilling the tooth. This could lead to the tooth requiring a root canal. You should have your dentist check the bite, the crown margins and also the vitality and sensitivity of the tooth. She should not have to live in pain so don't wait too long to go.

Avatar n tn A week ago today I had a temporary crown put on lower right molar while a permanent crown is being made. When anesthegia wore off I was left in chronic extreme pain that extends from the middle of my lip and jaw to my ear and up into my eye socket. The pain is extreme but centered on the lower row of teeth where the crown was put on. Yesterday the dentist checked everything, did a second xray, and found nothing.
Avatar m tn Based on the information provided, it appears that you develop thermal sensitivity after a new restoration, which is a temporary or final crown. In dentistry, we tend to use the term " final", instead of permanent, because nothing is permanent other than tax and death. The most common culprit of thermal sensitivity after new restoration is occlusal interference, if there is no carious lesion or periodontal pathology present.
Avatar m tn I went back to the dentist, and she drilled down the crown a bit after testing my bite. I then went back again, and she performed a full analysis of my entire bite, and has recommended @$4,000 worth of work to be done to various teeth to obtain a perfect bite. I am questioning this, as I have never had any pain of this sort until the crown was reset. Is it possible the cement she used has irritated the nerve of my tooth?
Avatar n tn I had a cracked molar (second back left lower side) and my dentist said I needed a crown. I had my crown prep done a month ago. Dr. removed the cracked portion, placed a pin in and rebuilt up the tooth. The dental hygeinest made my temporary crown. I went home, and when the numbing wore off, I was in severe pain. not just my tooth. but also my whole face and jaw. I called the dr. and was told it was normal. after several days pain STILL did not go away.
Avatar f tn I am getting a bridge made for my bottom left side and had my mouth open for a total of 5 hours in 1 day. The pain in my jaw was severe, and my ear feels like there is something in it. There is also a noise when I chew, or open my mouth. I can't open my mouth very big yet, but it is improving. There is no clicking sound when I open and close my mouth . It is more of a whooshing sound. I have a temporary bridge in and although it is not great the bite is OK. My Dr.
Avatar n tn I then had a root canal done through the crown and had a lot of pain after that but eventually the tooth started feeling better. I cannot yet eat on that side as the ligaments were affected and may take months to get back to normal. And my clenching doesn't help either. My advice to you is not to wait too long to see a specialist as the longer the tooth is in distress, the longer it will take to heal and you could lose it as well (that's what I was told). Good luck!
Avatar n tn t seem like long enough time for the pain to subside before the decision to do an apicoectomy is made, in my opinion. I had severe pain after a root canal on a lower back molar that lasted for two full weeks then subsided SLOWLY after that. One year follow up x-ray shows perfect healing since then. But then, I've also had root canals that had almost no pain afterward. Every tooth responds differently. Have you had the tooth filled and crowned yet?
Avatar n tn I agree with the hot/cold sensitivity issue. Some molars even have five canals. It's not common but it is possible. There is also another thing that was left out and that is fracture. Fractures of teeth do not show up on x-rays and are difficult to diagnose. Usually they take a few visits before they are discovered. Vertical fractures require that the tooth be pulled. Also, if the roots are not filled to the tip, that will also cause problems with the root canal.
