Avatar n tn An MRI, or CT scan would give the Dr. a fairly good idea of the liver. The one that they say is best is the biopsy. I've had all three. I know it sounds scarry, I've had 2 biopsys in one month (they missed the liver on the first one) the second one was done with a guided ultra sound. Even though I had that experience I'm glad to know . The procedure is very quick , one day out patient. Recovery is minimal ,discomfort for the first two days. Then the waiting begins for results.

Avatar m tn Just wanting to know what I can do to improve the kidney function or at least slow the progression of the disease. I have an appt. with a kidney dr. but not for a month yet. Would appreciate all input and your experiences with this. GFR 38 and creatinine 1.4.
Avatar n tn Been on januvia for a week. Blood sugar is not going below 120 ...and as high as 250. Was on glyburide. Had trouble with BS dropping as low as 40. Doc thought I would do better with this drug. I have only one kidney so was prescribed a 50mg dose. Will it regulate after I have been on for awhile?
Avatar m tn I do not eat before exercise at five thirty every day. I am taking metformin glimperide januvia and atenolol for my high blood pressure. Before i exercise blood sugars are 156. After exercise they go to 226. Why? I take my meds about fifteen minutes before my exercise routine. Blood sugars continusously drop as the day goes on. before dinner time they can be 100. after eating they drop to 60 sometimes.

194838 tn?1303428544 Hi, I recently posted about severe side effects I was experiencing with the drug Januvia , I had severe stomach pains and sore throat. My doctor has now prescribed Galvus and said they are from the same family as Januvia. Has anybody tried this drug? if so did you experience any side effects ,especially stomach pains? . It may sound stupid but I am a little scared to take Galvus after what happened before.
Avatar f tn I have been on Metformin, Januvia and Glimeperide for a few years. They are not controlling my diabetes. She wanted me to try Victoza and give up the Januvia. I got over fear of giving myself the shot, but on the 3rd day I began to get sick. On the 4th and 5th days I couldn't even go to work. Changed shot to before bed instead of morning and it made no difference. After a little over a week I stopped it. Lost 5 lbs cause I couldn't eat anything.
Avatar f tn What does this sound like, and what can I do about it? I am a Type 2 Diabetic, and take Metformin, Januvia, and Zoloft for anxiety.
Avatar f tn Hi, Since november I have been experiencing right side upper abdominal pain, occasional pale stool and occasional right shoulder pain. I thought it was gallstones based on online research and dismissed it until last week. I did an ultrasound and the technician discovered that I have mild coarse echopattern on my liver. This is all the information I have thus far and am awaiting blood test results.
Avatar n tn Hep c and cirocis How can we determine how long he could live? Do some people recover from liver disease? Does anyone live for 10-20 years in this condition? Two years ago they said he might live 2 years. MELD score of 12 indicates 80% chance of living 2 months but it's been 4 months. What is a realistic time frame for him? Although I've pressed him, he doesn't have a will and I'm not sure if it's urgent at this time.
Avatar m tn What I will tell you might seem frightening at first but I am telling this so you realize how serious liver disease or cancer of the liver can be. Diagnosing illness on your own based on what you have read on the Internet may be fine if someone has minor non-life-threatening health issues but if you have “scarring of the liver” and your doctor is worried about liver cancer, this is something that you should take very seriously.
Avatar f tn hi sorry you and your mom are going throgh this. liver disease is a horrible disease. can't offer much help since this is a hepatitis C forum but can tell you that if your mom hasn't stopped drinking then nothing will help her. many of the symptoms from end stage can be treated to make the patient more comfortable. make sure your mom is seeing a hepatologist (liver specialist).
Avatar f tn My daughter has been diagnosed with liver disease. She had hep c but that is now under control. She has developed varies in the aesophagus and these are banded every three months. She now has frequent nose bleeds and would like to know the significance of this. She had a drug problem and she also continues to drink alcohol in large amounts. What is the likely outcome of this as she does not listen to what I have to say regarding not drinking.
Avatar n tn Other common health conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease, pancreatitis, hemolytic anemia and thyroid disease, can also cause liver transaminase elevations. Most liver diseases are characterized by greater SGPT elevations than SGOT elevations except cirrohsis and alcohol abuse. SGPT also rises in bile duct obstruction due to stone. Discuss the need to rule out these other conditions with your doctor. If you have jaundice, the cause can primarily be liver, though other causes can co-exist.
1714226 tn?1308625105 hi, I am a 1 1/2 year post liver transplant patient. My advice is to see a GI specialist who focuses on liver disease. There are a series of diagnostic procedures they would recommend if warranted. If liver disease is confirmed then they should request blood labs to determine a MELD score. In a nutshell, this can become very overwhelming but I am trying to reassure you that there many steps to take before determining the worst case.
