Avatar f tn The levothyroxine has a long half-life within the blood and may also be withheld for 3 to 4 days without significant changes observed. The Januvia and blood pressure meds you shouldn’t mess around with, so the experiment may not be performed completely. . While you may think the diet has nothing to do with it, but I think investigating would be better than pure recall. You could try to make a log of things she eats and again try to make changes there depending on which foods seem suspect.

Avatar f tn I have been on Metformin, Januvia and Glimeperide for a few years. They are not controlling my diabetes. She wanted me to try Victoza and give up the Januvia. I got over fear of giving myself the shot, but on the 3rd day I began to get sick. On the 4th and 5th days I couldn't even go to work. Changed shot to before bed instead of morning and it made no difference. After a little over a week I stopped it. Lost 5 lbs cause I couldn't eat anything.

Avatar n tn I'm not sure Retinopathy can be reversed once the damage is done, but it's believed it can be prevented by good control. 'Nonproliferative retinopathy' is when it's in it's beginning stages and if diagnosed early, treatment might be able to stop the progression. 'Proliferative retinopathy' is when damage has already happened, but it can often times be brought under control with Laser treatments.
Avatar f tn t know why it was happening and should go away on its own. It did get better, but it now has come back and is worse. He has gone to his GP and he wasn't concerned, BP was normal and since it had gone away once before he told him to give it time. I just don't think it is normal, can you suggest anything that we could look into for the cause or treatments for retinopathy?
Avatar f tn All the patients were asymptomatic, and despite the retinopathy, subjective complaints have been uncommon, and visual acuity has not always been impaired. The retinopathy was noted 4 to 16 weeks after initiation of the treatment and disappeared in a 4-11 week period. The retinopathy disappeared in all patients who continued the treatment except one. At the end of 24 weeks, 4 out of selected patients were negative for HCV RNA by PCR ( 2 in each group).
Avatar m tn Diabetics with high uncontrolled blood sugars can get diabetic retinopathy. When your vision starts to change, it is already severe. If left untreated diabetic retinopathy will keep getting worse. An Ophthalmologist can detect retinopathy after conducting a thorough eye exam.

Avatar m tn Avastin is NOT FDA approved, for anything other than as a cancer treatment. However, the vitreo-retinal ophthalmologists use it "off-label" to treat AMD and diabetic retinopathy. Only Lucentis has been approved for ophthalmic use and only for AMD NOT diabetic retinopathy. Although, these drugs seem to help diabetic retinopathy patients, they have yet to be FDA approved. Unfortunately the only options available to you are to pay out of pocket for the Avastin (see if your Dr.
Avatar n tn I am 36 weeks pregnant and have developed retinopathy in my left eye. I would love to hear about other diabetic women and their pregnancy experiences since everyone I know has no idea what I am talking about. Avatar n tn My daughter has had type 1 diabetes for over 20 years and has diabetic retinopathy. After a series of bleeds and resulting laser surgery, she suffered a detached retina in one eye and underwent a total vitrectomy. Three days later, she could see nothing - the result, probably of an infection. She was treated with antibiotics and steroids, but her sight never fully recovered and now a fluorogram confirms that she has lost blood supply to approximately 25% of the retina.
Avatar n tn If I remember correctly, there is a possibility it can. They usually will want to do eye testing and monitoring before and during tx. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will soon chime in.

Avatar m tn Hello I am writing on behalf of my husband. He is a type 2 diabetic and has developed really bad rentinopathy in both eyes. He has had some treatment in the past and now needs to have further surgery. Because of some medical conditions he has been unable.to work for over a year, so we do not have money for the surgery. The doctor that he has been seeing in colorado won't do it because he still owes them money from before.
Avatar n tn The test could not cause retina burns and they are not painful. Retinopathy and micro aneurysms are often scattered around the eye and difficulty to see especially if the eye is not dilated. The most common thing that would cause symptoms like you had after the test is a corneal abrasion.. My suggestion is that you get a second opinion outside the group you are now seeing. Before any drops are put in the eye at the consultant have the Eye MD ophthalmologist look at your cornea.
1761834 tn?1315837826 In studies including a significant number of diabetic patients [5,7] diabetes mellitus has also been associated with retinopathy. Furthermore, improvement of retinopathy is delayed in hypertensive and diabetic patients after ending treatment [7]. This relationship emphasizes that IFN-induced retinopathy can result from physiopathological mechanisms in common with other retinopathies related to microvascular abnormalities.
