janumet generics

My husband was recently diagnosed with type II diabetes. His doctor has prescibed janumet. In reading about the drug I've found info stating that "one should not consume excessive alcohol" and also "one should avoid alcohol". My husband drinks at least one glass of wine/beer a day with more on weekends. I'm confused as to what excesive means or if he is suppose to avoid alcohol totally. Any information would be appreciated.

i used janumet for my sugar it make me gain weight but it lower my sugar why isnt suppose to make u loose weight

I went on metformin 1g, no change after three months. went up to two grams and was so nauseus for weeks, changed to janumet 1g. My sugars are still up around 15 every day, and my hand still hasnt stopped twitching. I get it all over my body randomly, but always in my hand. It doesn't hurt but is irritating and my hand is sore from overworking. My dr said this was a diabetes issue but I have never heard of it before among other sufferers, and he just brushes it away when I mention it.

hi i am presently living in the Philippines and i have run out of my janumet 50mg/500mg tablets and they are not available here in Philippines the only diabetic tablets available where i live are Metformin 500 tablets, can i substitute these for the janumet ?

My endocrinolgist ordered a MRI with Contrast on my brain for the possiblity of a prolactin secreeting pituitary tumor or something similar. I am type II diabetic and take Janumet. I think I remember reading in the side effects, warnings and uses pamphlet that there were some tests, proceedures and surgeries which you shouldn't have while on the medication. How long should I be off the medication before and after the MRI? Are there any other things I should consider before the test?

Plus you could discuss changing meds. BTW There is a combination pill Janumet that c ombines Metformin and Januvia. This may be helpful to you as well.

I thought I had to vomit, but when I intentionally tried to vomit, nothing happened. I have type 2 diabetes and currently take Janumet twice a day. Could this have been low blood sugar, or high blood sugar?

he is on an oral medication for the type 2 the med is Janumet. His blood sugar is controlled and his doctor said hes doing good on it my question is could this problem lessen his chances for svr? any info is appreciated. Wishing you all on treatment SVR!!!

I would say that 95% of the time generic will work the same for people as brand, but that other 5% of the time someone will have a bad reaction due to: a) other compounds in the generic that are not active ingredients are not good for them b) placebo effect c) poor production quality in some way So, I think just like everything it is a case by case basis.

says metformin at both 500 x 2 and 1000 x 2 are both equally ineffeciant for treating diabetes. She highly recommends Janumet 5/500. Gus added this to his and has seen a decline in sugars. I did as well when I was switched.

My diabetese medicine was changed from Pioglar + Metformin 500 twice a day to Janumet 50+1000 twice a day in around March 2011. I have since lost about 15 KG and it is still going down @ 1 kg per month. I was happy to reach my ideal weight. However, I do not know how to stop further loss. I am Diabetic, so can not discontinue Metformin. Any suggestion ?

Many generics have differnet levels of the active ingredients and different kinds of fillers. I learned this the hard way when I was prescribed my first thyroid medicine. I have to take the generic becasue the namebrand sends into a manic hyper state even at low doses but the generic works beautifully for .me. Call your doc and have him write on the prescription to only fill with wellbutrin.You might want to go back to your original pharmacy so you can it.

My question is this, will I be alright on generics as long as I make sure I continue getting the Mylan brand Levothyroxine? I have been searching the internet for opinions and have seen them go both ways. It would be comforting to hear some positive experiences with generics. If you're on a generic, yes, many people do find that generics are often less effective than brand names and some generic manufacturers are better than others. Others don't notice these things. Generics are not identical to brand name drugs, they are similar enough to work pretty much the same but our bodies differ and might not absorb the generic as well.

Actually, the above answer is not entirely true. While, by law, a generic has to contain the same dosage of the active ingredient, it isn't QUITE as simple as that. There are a lot more factors that go into generics vs. brands (like its pharmacokinetic profile and bioequivalence (BE) and bioavailability (BA).....but it's a tad more complicated than is appropriate for this forum) There has been a VERY long lived debate about the efficacy of generic vs brand name meds.

The only difference between the brand name and the generics are the fillers and binders used in the pills, since they all use the same active ingredient - levothyroxine. Most people don't have an issue with the generics, but there are a few that have reactions to the fillers/binders - that can happen with Synthroid, as well. I actually did better on generics than I did on Synthroid. It's your choice as to whether or not to switch to an endo...

I am also diabetic and take Janumet. I would like to become pregnant soon and was wondering if anyone had experience with Lexapro while pregnant/breastfeeding. Do you know if it's approved or known safe for pregnancy and breastfeeding?

I had gestational diabetes 7 years ago and have suspected that my insulin never returned to normal. I was taking Metformin 500 2x daily which was then changed to Janumet 500/50 2x daily. I have done very well with diet and exercise and for some very strange reason, upon beginning treatment for the pituitary tumor and thyroid medicine, my blood sugars have been in range perfectly and when taking Janumet I actually experience severe low sugars, so I have stopped taking it.
