itraconazole toenail fungus

Hi doctor,I have jock itch type fungus for last one year, tried fluconazole but it again came back...then tried itraconazole 200 mg a day with topical clotrimazole, it completely dissappered, but after 15 days it came back. Did this course thrice but it comes back every time. Tried terbinafine also but dint work much.

I'm pretty confident this is caused by fungus/mould. Just wondering if anyone has tried any strong antifungals, itraconazole for instance?

Even with high chlorine levels I started seeing a slime in the water and on checking the filter it was almost stopped up with this clear slime. Was this from toenail fungus? Can the toenail fungus thrive in water temps up to 105 f?

Yes you would need an antibiotic to clear up different types of fungus. But what makes you think you have fungus inside your body? What type of symptoms are you having? Did you seek medical advice to determine it is a fungus?

I too have toenail fungus on both big toes & for many years. Have had one of them removed just to have it grow back the same after 2 removals. From my understanding one must use both an oral med along with a topical med if it is truly toenail fungus. I suffer from multiple skin cancers & have had 6 surgeries in 6 weeks with about a year more to go as I also have RA & thus a lousy healing & immune system.

It does sound like a fungal infection. Do dermatologists do toenails? I really don't know, usually podiatrists do feet.

Toby, You are correct, this does sound like a toenail fungal infection. Fungus may turn a toenail yellow, brown and sometimes black. The nail may become thickened with fungal debris growing underneath. The fungus likes to grow under the nail lifting it up so yes it is common for it to detach. There are other things that may mimic a fungal infection. Trauma itself can cause toenails to have similar changes as can a yeast infection.

I have a nail fungus that I've dealt with for nearly two years. I have had my doctor prescribe cream, I also took Lamisil (spelling?) I went to the dermatologist with my son yesterday, and he told me to file the side of my nail with the fungus all the way down, he said in order to get rid of the fungus that's in my nail, I have to get rid of that part of my nail. Is this true? I also think I have a fungus on one of my toenails.

They grow up to a certain point seeming healthy, then suddenly the toenail darkens and seems thicker and a new one begins to grow with it. They always grow up to the point in the photo and then the problem returns and a new healthy toenail starts growing, pushing the old one out. My dermatologist put me on anti-fungal medication, when my testing for fungus was positive, but now the tests come up as negative.

My husband has problems with toenail fungus and athlete's foot. His doctor basically said with his liver condition it is best not to treat it.

I've been treating my toenail fungus, but as I treat it… it's getting white and really dry, it has lines on the toe nails too. Is that because of the medication I'm putting on my toenails?

I also want to say that my doctor did take a sample from my nail, had it tested and it came back positive for Onychomycosis.

There seems to be a grouping of around 5 black dots surrounded by a lighter brown circle under my big toenail. It’s diameter is about 1/4 of an inch. It is not painful and it is close to the center of my toenail. Any clues to what it might be? Thank you.

Ok so I had a pedicure almost 3wks ago and went back to get the polish changed when I noticed that about half of my big toenail is green. Fungus!!! So I yelled WTF to the lady. I've always gone to this same place. She told me it was common during the summer. Could this affect the baby??

It sounds like you have toenail fungus. You need to take an antifungal medicine orally (Lamisil) for 3 months and you will lose the nail(s). The natural remedies don't work to my knowledge as you have penetrate the nail and the other drugs don't do that.

Okkkk, It's probably toe fungus. I know, ick. Easy over the counter remedies, ask your pharmasist what he/she recommends . Try to let your feet get air as much as possible. Good luck. If you have any other questions, I dealt with a fungal toenail infection off and on for years. I may have more ideas for you if this is what you are dealing with.

Sounds like toenail fungus. Unfortunately the drugs that take care of it (lamasil and sporanox) are really harsh on your liver. Show your doc next time you're in the office. I wouldn't make a special trip unless its really bothering you. Meanwhile, don't file those nails, that spreads the fungus. It takes a long time to get rid of it. Good luck.

I also have trush and occasional toenail fungus. Could this still be hiv even though these symptoms appeared three months after a possible exposure ?

I've been battling toenail fungus for over 6 years .. any advice that actually works? I've tried everything .. vinegar, clorox, all of the Rx creams .. frustrated and tired of it, and embarrased to go barefoot or with sandals.
