Common Questions and Answers about Itchy throat post nasal drip

itchy

Avatar m tn He said my nose is swollen and they also did a throat swab which detected no bacterial infection. I am wondering if my post nasal drip is caused by just inflammation of the nose due to any other reasons. The only one i have been able to come up with is picking my nose too roughly? Also its been 8 days since the problem first started or the symptom appeared. I dont have a stuffy nose in the day no itchy eyes, and the drainage is not very bad. Im wondering how long before this will clear up.
2039791 tn?1329805342 Exposure to allergens causes a runny nose with a resultant post nasal drip where secretions from the nose go backward into the throat and irritate. You will need to consult your primary care physician for proper clinical assessment. In the meantime for relief from your symptoms you could do warm salt gargles and take OTC antihistamines. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Avatar n tn ME TOO!!! I have battled the PND for years.I have to be really careful not to catch a cold because it can last months and months due to the wonderful enviroment my PND has provided. I would agree that psuedoephidrine is great for drying up and alleviating cough but now available only on script. The TCM equivalent is Ephedra.I have also had some success with clearing the sinuses with acupuncture. It is also definitly worth stopping both dairy and gluten products in the diet .
Avatar f tn Hello, I only joined this forum in the hope I may get some tips on how to alleviate some of the problems I have with this complaint, I think I must have suffered with Post nasal drip for a couple of years. The very worst and most depressing symptom I have is the awful feeling of thick phlegm at the back of my throat some days it makes me gag.
Avatar m tn It can lead to a post nasal drip and lead to an irritation in the throat. It could be sinusitis, if it is accompanied by nasal stuffiness and facial pain or pressure. Post nasal drip could also be due to allergens. You will need to consult your primary care physician for proper assessment. In the meantime practice good breathing exercises, humidify your room and do steam inhalations. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn s a little swollen on one side on my tonsil. I have no symptoms except an itchy throat and post nasal drip. Can anyone help me?
Avatar n tn Wow - I feel both relieved that I'm not the only one suffering from PND and this nasty weird unexplainable cough, and scared to death of what this may be. I have suffered this cough since I was 16, and I'm now 18. My cough started one particular day when I was feeling perfectly fine: I didn't have a cold, or allergies, or anything.
Avatar n tn Hello, You seem to be having post nasal drip. Post-nasal drip (PND) occurs when excessive mucus is produced by the sinuses. The excess mucus accumulates in the throat or back of the nose. It can be caused by rhinitis, sinusitis, or laryngopharyngeal acid reflux. It can be enhanced or sometimes even caused by allergies. Please check out with an ENT specialist if you are having chronic rhinitis or sinusitis.
Avatar f tn Many things can help post nasal drip. you an try OTC decongestants, antihistamines and mucus thinning agents. if it continues I would take russtoo's advice and see your doctor or ENT. Also drink lots of fluids but not caffeinated.
Avatar f tn Hi, the other causes for long term cough besides asthma are GERD and post nasal drip from allergies. GERD is gastro esophageal reflux disease where the stomach acids come back into the esophagus and spill into the windpipe causing cough. Treatment with antacids will help neutralize the acids. Post nasal drips can occur with sinusitis and throat infections. Giving up cigarettes will abolish smoker's cough in 90% of people.
Avatar m tn Exposure to allergens causes a runny nose with a resultant post nasal drip where secretions from the nose go backward into the throat and irritate. So, please discuss with your doctor and focus on having the basic cause resolved and if needed consult an allergist. Regards.
Avatar m tn could this be post nasal drip?
Avatar n tn I have post nasal drip and also an upset stomach a lot of the time. When my stomach is sick, the only way to help it feel better is to eat. But then that doesn't last too long. Do you think my upset stomach is de to the dripping? What do you think is the best remedy for this? Thank you - This discussion is related to HELP!! Can Chronic Post Nasal Drip Cause Stomach Problems? Can allergy symptoms change?.
Avatar m tn Maxillary polyps can increase nasal congestion and contribute to post-nasal drip thus causing an issue with a persistent cough in the throat. I would recommend consulting an ENT Specialist.
Avatar n tn Daily sore throat, crackly, itchy voice. It started for me with post nasal drip and thick mucus. No yellow mucus, mostly clear. Sometimes, tiny bits of blood in my sputum.
Avatar m tn However, a couple of weeks ago, I have realised that I have been experiencing post nasal drip. I am not sure if it is caused by the dry mouth, or if the dry mouth is causing it. Regardless, if I don't swallow frequently, mucus builds up at the back of my throat. I cannot seem to spit it out, and I have to swallow it. Also, if I talk for too long, or go without drinking water for too long, my tongue dries up.
Avatar f tn I have had post nasal drip for about 2 months, doctor put me on fluticasone propionate which has helped as not as bad but noticing still having nausea in am especially with having a cup of coffee with creamer as like today I drank just a little next thing I am throwing it right back up. I am over 50 and just went to allergist who diagnosed me with asthma and all allergy tests showed I wasn't allergic but my question is is it the creamer making me sick or the actual coffee.
Avatar m tn Background: I'm a 30yr old Indian born male living in London from past 6yrs. I’m a 69kg fit person and I workout a lot (probably 5-6 times a week) with no medical conditions. (Although I’ve had a sinus operation about 15 years ago, not sure if that is relevant). History: Since last 1.5 years (from May/June-2010) I have had hacking cough and skin urticaria (dermatographism). Following were some symptoms I had in July/Aug-2010: - Bad taste early morning.
Avatar m tn I have chronic post nasal drip. I recently had surgery on my hip. During it, I started gasping and woke up with a nurse holding an oxygen mask over my face. They said fluids must have built up in my throat. Now I'm having surgery on my knee and I will be receiving a spinal instead of general anesthesia due to that episode. Won't the fact of just lying on my back possibly cause the same problem to occur?
Avatar f tn I got covid 5 weeks ago and recovered within 8 days but the post nasal drip is still lingering with minor one sided stuffy nose on and off. The post nasal drip seems like it drips less at times and more other times so it is also on and off but doesn't seem to go away. When there is a lot I would cough and sometimes it would coat my throat or get stuck there and I have to clear my throat constantly or try to hack it up by coughing. It is annoying and miserable.
Avatar n tn Are post nasal drip, nasal congestion, and throat clearing/itchy throat symptoms of ARS?
Avatar m tn okay ive had post nasal drip very badly for like 11 weeks right now ive only started to go doctors last week or 2 but i cant eat properly i mean during the day i feel nauseous i feel as though something mucus is jst congesting in my throat it puts me off food i cant eat food if i eat it makes me feel more nausous like i cant eat from 65kgs i am now 59.4 in 2 weeks ive been put on rhinocort but do u think nasonex is better ?
Avatar f tn Indeed, swallowing problems may result in accumulation of solids or liquids in the throat that may complicate or feel like post-nasal drip. When the nerves and muscles in the mouth, throat, and esophagus are not interacting properly, overflow secretions can spill into the voice box (larynx) and breathing passages (trachea and bronchi), causing hoarseness, throat clearing, or coughing. If this is the case, it is best that you check with your ENT doctor for proper evaluation.
