I have a itchy throat for about a week which causes me to cough alot.I thought it was allergies, but the medicine I purchased at the store doesn't seem to help. The coughing gets worse at night when I lay down to sleep. It is getting to where I only sleep a couple hours a night because the itching of my throat won't stop and that when the coughing gets worse too.I do sleep with a fan on,would that make it worse?I would appreciate any help or comments.
The cold is over in a week and after that I have an itchy inside my throat which causes me to cough a lot. When I am coughing, it is coming out a clear, salty liquid. I am not sure it is mucus because when I have a thick, yellow mucus, I don’t have an itchy and coughing problem. I go to see doctor and he gives me antibiotic for upper body for 7 days and it is gone. However, it is not a good idea to take antibiotic.
MY MOTHER HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING ITCHY THROAT WITH COUGH. SHE COUGHS TO THE POINT WERE SHE SPITS UP OR SOMETIMES EVEN VOMITS AND ALSO PEES HERSELF BECAUSE THE COUGH IS SO BAD. SHE HAS DIABETES AND GASTRITIS, HER DOCTOR TOLD HER THAT THE ITCHY THROAT MIGHT BE PRODUCED BY HER GASTRITIS AND SHE WAS ADVICED TO TAKE NEXIUM MORE OFTEN. I'VE NEVER HEARD THAT GASTRITIS PRODUCED ITCHY THROAT, I MYSELF HADDED AND NEVER HAD THAT PROBLEM.

I have been having a cough since 2001 which starts out as an itch or tickle in the back of my throat and causes me to cough uncontrollably, most of the times in fits. I cough throughout the day and night, even when I am asleep, I have disturbed sleeping due to the cough. Plus, I have seen my doctor, and the diagnosis is severe allergies, brought on by chalk dust. I have been prescribed medicines, but nothing seems to work.

Exposure to allergens causes a runny nose with a resultant post nasal drip where secretions from the nose go backward into the throat and irritate causing cough. Cough is a protective mechanism by the body as it helps to prevent infections. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. In the meantime for relief from your symptoms you could do warm salt gargles and take OTC antihistamines. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Hi, I recently moved to Florida and appear to be suffering from allergies. People have told me that the new area may be what's causing the problem. Last year I got sick twice and both times people were saying allergies could've been the culprit. This year (in early January) I started with an itchy throat. Back in December I had a problem with my ears itching (I assumed they were just dry and used Mineral Oil to ease the itching).

I used to always clear my throat and cough...since having an air purifier in my home that covers the whole house; I've totally stopped that and found it to help all my children even in the midst of this WI winter - we've had no colds or flu or other respiratory ills. Here's some obvious signs in your own home that can indicate a need simply for air purification.
Had an issue where I developed a horrid itch in my throat a tickle as you will. I caused me to cough and as went on the cough got worse to the point I felt like I was drowning. Now I also started having sinus issues where my nose would stuff up and drain. I had gone to the dr's they gave me a cortizone shot 1mg didn't help. I went to the allergy specialist and we did an asthma test (was fine) he put me on nose sprays just caused dry bloody nose. I went to a pulminary dr.
My nose is very congested most of the time. I have a dry chocking cough. I cough a lot when I feel an inside drift to my throat. I have a bad case of sinusitis too I think. My nose hurts a lot when the weather is cold and the pain goes away when I drink hot water. I am taking Reactine 20mg and I spray Nasonex in my nose. I also rinse my nose with NeilMed sinus rinse (saline solution). The sinus rinse helps a lot. I do it twice a day.

I've had an ongoing cough for a year now. My throat always feels itchy like there's dust in the throat and it makes me cough. When I feel the sensation coming on, the only relieve I get is if I drink water. My cough is also of a white/clear phlegm and it leaves me breathless afterwards. Its affecting my work and sleep at night. Smoke, spicy food and dust also sets me off. I've been tested for allergies and the only thing I'm allergic to is grass mix.

This can be associated with postnasal drip and throat clearing. This can in turn irritate the throat lining. If infection is suspected, you need to send the sputum or throat swab for culture, microscopy, staining to rule out the pathogen and should also take chest radiograph. Antibiotic sensitivity of culture will decide the effective drug.

Every night, literally a few minutes after I lay down to go to sleep, I develop this horrible itchy throat that always leads to coughing and gagging. This sensation will last for about ten to fifteen minutes, which i will spend coughing, drinking water, blowing my nose, and trying desperately not to throw up. Then it will fade to a more mild itch that I can sleep though. I will feel fine all day, and then, consistently, this cough will rise up as I'm about to go to sleep.
Around late January, I had an acute attack of itchy throat accompanied by a horrible non productive cough. Along with the cough I get a metallic taste of blood in the back of my throat. The attack can last for hours or until I break a allergy capsule in my mouth and swallow it without water, that and over regular antihistamines keep it down for a day or so, then I have another attack. I live in the south and at this month of March our pollen count is up around 5000...
