Hi Jazz and welcome to the MedHelp lupus forum. Hope you treatment is working for you. lupus causes various things to happen to your skin. Dr. Wallace has a book called "the lupus Book". He describs different ways lupus can affect your skin. You might be able to find this book at your local library.
I'm also waiting for more blood test results. I have not gotten a Dx yet, but my ANA ANCA is positive, CRP is high, Sed rate is high...but that was 6 months ago...so we are doing more test? Good luck with yours.
I am a 50 year old female with an itchy skin problem. Problem is, when I scratch, my skin form whelps. Wherever I scratch, within seconds a whelp will appear. What could be the cause of the itchy skin and whelps?

My husband age 59 has been experiencing burning, prickly itchy skin at random times but mostly during the evening. He has the sensation of pins and needles pricking his skin from the inside out. This mostly occurs on his arms or legs or back, but not concurrently. First it was his legs then it moved to his back and currently the problem is on his arms. the sensation will be symetrical, i.e. both arms. the prickling turns into severe itching with sensations of pin pricking pain.
I have the exact same symptoms as well. Very itchy and skin is bruising prob. from scratching it so much. I soaked in the hottest bath imaginable for it on my feet and it relieved it for hours, but yet it still does not explain what this is caused from or how to prevent it. I don't have any faith in doctors or hospitals anymore because honestly they all depend on the net too much for prognosis/diagnoses whatever!
Skin Changes in People with Systemic lupus Introduction Changes of the skin, hair, nails, and mucous membranes are very common in people with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), occurring in 85 percent of patients. In most of them, these abnormalities are not severe and are easily treated with corticosteroids (prednisone) or antimalarial drugs (hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine).
i started having a rash across my both cheeks*not on nose* about a year and half ago. It became pretty worse ,itchy,it was not raised but sometimes had ***** fluid coming out of it.it was near my 19th birthday, i didn't treat it as i was busy in my papers, it healed in about a month leaving only slight reddish spots on my both cheeks. I later noticed that those spots would hurt on washing with soap,or sometimes after eating.
I have already had the rash on my forehead biopsied and they found it was skin lupus. the past year I have been suffering for alot of aches and pains plus fatigue. My ANA read positive at xmas and I have been referred to a rheumatologist. He is running a load of blood tests but I havent got another appointment for 3 months. the rash is usually red, raised, itchy and sore. the last few months they have been getting blood blisters and broken blood vessels in the actual rash area.
Since you had a rash that was biopsied to be lupus, it is likely that these rashes are also skin lupus. Along with this you could be having systemic lupus. the possibility of lupus affecting blood vessels and causing vasculitis or their inflammation is also possible.
Hello all; Hoping someone can help me! I have been pretty much healthy my whole life. My medical history is severe asthma & allergies as a child . the asthma I have for the most part outgrown. I will have it flare up every now and again. I had my first itching attack when I was 18 living in Australia. I couldn't link it to anything but my lower legs would massively itch w/hives. No rash. I didn't see this again until 2008. I started getting itchy legs/hives after running.
I will try and reply in order to your email, I have taken my daughter to a dermatologist who has done tests on her skin and she said that she has allergies to certain hair products and skin products so we stopped using them. She now uses non soap products on her skin and hair but this hasn't helped as she is still having flare ups.
Hello Melody, i too experience a rash with a ring worm like, but mine is not itchy. I have lupus but my rashes seep to spread and travel. i get the all over my body but not on the face (i happy for that) however most of the time they burn if i press on them or hot water hits them. You said you only get them on your leg?? have you got tested for Lyme disease?????
What made me first aware of something wrong was I was ouside for the enitre day on a Sunday, the next day I had a rash that was skin colored to maybe a little pink on my forehead, besides my eyes and on my cheeks. It burned and itched a little. the next day I feel like something is crawling on my skin and in my hair. I would feel in on my ankle, arm, back ,etc but with out a rash.
My symptoms are, fever, swollen lymph nodes, one side of my abdomen is slightly swollen,I have bruises, lost some weight but my appetite is still normal.I've been getting itchy skin ,light brown freckles on different parts of my body. I'm out of breath from just going up a flight of stairs, this never happened to me before. I barely have energy to do the things I use to do like cleaning my house, going shopping. When I do this thing I end up very tired and shorthand of breath....very strange symptoms.
I have missed 2 more days of work so far, having mild joint pain, but now I'm having new symptoms on top of the rest. My skin is itchy is some spots, and it looks like I have a rash on my left cheek, lower back, and legs. My lymph nodes hurt behind my knees, in my groin area, on the sides of my neck, under my armpits, and I'm very tender behind my elbows. Sometimes I feel a little nauseated. I feel very tired and weak again. I could easily sleep all day and all night.
they are not twitches I have them as well, these muscles will be tense for several seconds or longer. Some cognitive issues, fogginess, hives or itchy skin, weak muscles. I have had bloodwork done twice everything came up normal. EEG done Monday but do not have results yet. MRI will take place once the insurance okays it. I have felt like crap for 5 years or longer. I am scared. Not sure if it is MS, lupus, ALS, or nothing.
numbess in the left side of my head which is so weird /scared that I have to hold my head and want to cry out 1. do I have lupus? does my anxiety attack come from lupus. It is so severe that It interferes with my daily life 2. what is the difference between ANA IPA and ANA SCREEN? 3. what other tests needed?
I have lupus and some of your symtpoms sound somewhat like lupus. But I know there are other illnesses that mimic lupus. Since it sounds like your immune system is LOW, I would lean more toward chronic fatigue or maybe osteo arthritis. Maybe some fibromyalgia. Fibro usually accompanies other illnesses and is rarely seen alone. Another possibility is adrenal insufficiency. I'm not real familar w/ this, but I encourage you to do some research on it. Let me know what you think.
Both the doctor and nurse mentioned lupus. they gave me a higher dose and longer course of steriods as well as pain meds. they suggested I see a PCP. Well.. I lost my insurance the next day due to divorce. After a month I finally got onto insurance through my work. I got a PCP who did a thorough workup due to the continued joint pain, vertigo, fatigue, etc. He tested for lymes disease, rocky mountain, thyroid. Those all came normal.
Dry itchy spots on legs. Petechiae on nose and arms. Last week I had two episodes of cramps that were horrible. the first was in my calf and it woke me up, it stayed slighty cramped unitl lunch time then my leg went numb and I couldnt lift my foot. I tried everything from walking more to running though it wouldnt change it. When my husband go home from work he rubbed it and it made it a little better, though the dragging was still there. It was like someone was pulling on my leg.
the creme has a transdermal componant that causes it to penetrate the skin. the concentration of the over-the counter brand is low, however. If the problem interferes with your work, a short-term dose of prednisone orally would probably do the trick. Ask your physician.
For about two years I've been dealing with symptoms that cycle - itchy skin (legs, abdomen, chest), rash (abdomen, chest), achy and stiff joints (mainly knees, hips, back, neck, wrists), blurry vision, low-grade fevers, extreme fatique. At first the symptoms would last for about a week, then leave for a couple weeks. As time goes on, there are less good days than there are bad days - typically 3-4 days of symptoms, then just general fatique and achiness for a couple days.
lupus rash due to sensitivity to sun exposure has more to do with low cellular thyroid function than lupus itself to my opinion.
the other possibilities are of eczema, lupus erythematosus or dermatitis. Best would be to consult a dermatologist and get biopsy skin done to confirm the diagnosis. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
