If you don't have direct access to an ACS office, you may also be able to schedule a private showing at a local wig shop. Many will either provide a private area for you to try on wigs during business hours, or allow you after hours access. I wasn't able to wear wigs because I found them to be itchy and hot, but I was surprised at the ones that are available. I have heard synthetic wigs are easier to keep clean than real hair ones.
I recently used some hair dye and my scalp had a bad reaction to it. I had a little dry scalp previously but nothing crazy. After my scalp was so dry and itching all the time and scabbing. I tried the Shielo Hydrate Shampoo and it was INSTANT relief. I also feel like it took it away, my scalp does itch anymore.
What helped the most for me with itching was Head and Shoulders shampoo for itchy scalp. However, in a short period of time my scalp became a real mess. I won't go in to it all but once I got it better (weeks! later) I stuck with the H&S shampoo. It does a nice job on the hair. Since then I have been trying to think of a way to put some oomph in my hair at the roots without a lot of "products"so it won't be so flat. Yesterday, I used baby shampoo and it looks pretty good!
I personally think they smell awful but they do wonderful things for the scalp. I used the Number 2 kit (shampoo, conditioner and scalp treatment). It's a bit pricey but it did work for me. I'll probably use it again this round when I get to that point. Mouse P.S. If you have a super WallyWorld near you that has a salon, they carry the Nioxin line.
I am 28 years old and have picked scabs on my scalp since I was about 12 years old. Normally I find little imperfections, possibly dandruff or dry scalp, and I pick at it until it becomes a scab. Once a scab develops, I find myself uncontrollably picking at it, so it usually never heals or takes an extremely long time or another scab to develop to stop. Right now, I have a total of six scabs that I have created on my scalp.
On incivek I controlled the itch with lotion, does not work on the scalp which was burning and itching severely. I moisturizer my scalp with coconut oil for a fee hours now and then before shampooing it out. Just minor itching now on SOC.
I'm almost positive it is a fungal infection of the scalp. I've been researching this for a long time and there are many reasons why I believe so. So it's also great to know that in order to cure the problem you can use anti-fungal treatments. Vinegar is a natural anti-fungal treatment, but you should also get medicated shampoos (you can pick up from your local pharmacy) that are for the treatment of fungal infections....
There is always one more complication each week and yes, my scalp feels itchy now and I do not have a health insurance that will pay a wig for myself if i caught it from her...of course I told her to mention this to her MD months ago.
I just shaved my hair 2.5 weeks after chemo treatments started) I put some lotion through it maybe thinking its dry skin? Is my head not used to all this fresh air? Is it the little hairs poking it? Any advice to help it? I said to my husband if this keeps up I might just have to go bald 24/7...and that will really take some guts for me!
I had a wig and I'm sorry I bought it..it was hot and itchy all the time. Good luck..you probably will need them between your 1st and 2nd treatment. I lost my hair about 18 days after my 1st treatment.
Been using Nioxin and it has the itchy scalp under control, sure hope it sooon helps with breakage!!! Maybe the public will only see my lovely eyes and not my head!! LOL....
try rubbing coconut oil in your scalp
Most of my misery was caused by the torturous itchy rash which is now under control thanks to some aggressive treatment from a dermatologost familiar with these drugs. My cough and sore throat are getting better although I still have some swelling in my lymph nodes and my energy level has had a little surge - enough that I am not hitting the sofa as soon as I get home from work. So right now I am feeling pretty well.
1. Provide a prescription for scalp prosthesis or cranial prosthesis (wig) due to treatment-induced alopecia to facilitate insurance/Medicare reimbursement. 2. Refer patients for psychosocial support, such as support groups, and recommend consultation with a cosmetologist or dermatologist (if appropriate) for changed body image issues. 3. Note that drug therapy (minoxidil [Rogaine®]) for hair loss is not efficacious for interferon-related hair loss.
He will freak out if he loses all his hair he's always been known for his hair like I said a bit of a beauty king haha. He may want to reconsider dyes while under treatment if he doesn't want it to thin too much.
Minoxidil for hair loss Examples minoxidil (Rogaine) Minoxidil (2% or 5% solution) is a spray or lotion that you put directly on your scalp twice a day. It is available without a prescription. BUT, I know how you all feel, I am a gospel singer (not that it matters) (vanity) and I have always had THICK THICK stay however you put it hair, and I have NEVER been able to see through my hair to my scalp before, until now. I can feel the little hairs coming in. But do or did any of you have a very itchy scalp ? I keep making my daughter check my head for lice LOL and she says "MOM, THERE IS NOTHING THERE ! ! ! !" ........I get so irratated.
"I'm supposed to be on treatment for 48 weeks" "The virus was almost undetectable at 12 weeks" Unfortunately these to statements may not be compatable....Can you elaborate on your 12 week viral load? I'm sure others will chime in, have to run..
the rash got its worst by day 7 after the exposure. it finally went away about a week after it appeared. Ihad seborrhea of the scalp before the encounter but after the sex it seemed to get worse and know it occurs in my chest hair and itches but is barely visible and goes and comes. I control the scalp seborhea with luxiq which is some sort of moose my dermotoligist perscribed me. sometimes it gets in my sideburns and beared as well. I also have high liver enzymes.
I got some nerve entrapment like situation in the right side of my body (Hope due to Smoking along with tuberculosis) and some strange feelings in my scalp like a tight band around my scalp and tingling, Also i got pain only in the right side of the body including face, arms and legs. My right side Jaws become tight, my right side ear aches, My right side throat was very tight, Right Side neck tight and aching and a feeling that my right side scalp has been pulled down.
You really have to make sure you get it really saturated though, im talking like globs and globs sitting on the scalp and rubbed into the scalp...and it is a pain in the rear to wash out. Its just no fun, no matter how you look at it, but it may work.
If hair loss becomes a major problem, medical insurances will typically cover the cost of a wig or a hairpiece. Often a doctor’s note or prescription along with a receipt of purchase is all that is required for insurance reimbursement. Fortunately, any hair loss induced by interferon therapy is temporary, and regrowth typically occurs within three to six months from the drug’s discontinuation. The color and texture of hair may differ from the person’s original hair type.
One of the things I did to keep my sense of humor was to get a long straight wig. I figured I'd never had straight hair before in my life, so why not totally change my look while I had the chance? Turns out, the wig was a bit itchy, though, so I stick to hats and scarves. Im' thinking about trying to get one of those rainbow clown wigs to wear on April Fool's Day, though. Too bad it's a Saturday this year, and I can't wear it to work!
I am so scared it won't grow back and I am so broke I would never be able to afford a wig. Can you imagine... wearing a wig at my age? All because I decided to lose weight? And my doctor keeps telling me my hair is falling out because of stress. I am furious with him. He didn't even suggest that I take vitamins while I was losing the weight. I also don't enjoy all the loose skin that will never bounce back... Weight loss isn't always worth it, especially when you take a pill to do it.

I can remember back when I was diagnoised and the reason I did not need a mastectomy was because the lump was just under 2cm and away from the nipple. At the time I spoke to the doctor about reconstruction and if I can remember correctly he said that reconstruction may be easier on a full mastectomy. However I think you should ask your Surgeon up front about reconstruction as they may be the deciding factor for which option you take.
I think it worked because at some point I did the test several times and it was negative. I was so happy. Unfortunately, that did not last. I started having the same signs again, and when I tested it was positive again. And ever since I can't get it to be negative again, meaning the candida if that is what I have has become resistant to the supplements that I was using. As I started a new treatment, I will take the test this week-end to see if there is any progress.
i do bruise real easy and my scalp is realy itchy and dry all the time.im also starting to have some break threw headaces.good luck every one !!!
My OB tested me for everything under the sun and finally gave up and sent me to a Dermatologist. He gave a quick diagnosis using a word that I cannot recall at the moment, but explained that my hair follicles and sweat and oil glands get infected. In the past 11 years I have had MANY of these and always felt embarrassed and alone. I have had them ranging in size from a pea to a silver dollar on both sides at the panty line.
