no matter what i do, for the past 9 years i have had what i thought was severe dandruff. however, i have tried every single anti-dandruff solution they sell and most just make my head more itchy. its weird cuz my scalp comes off in larger chunks than i thought dandruff was. it is also slightly yellower. it is constant, i never have a break from it. its super embarassing too, because i cannot resist to itch it and once i start to scratch i can't stop for like 2 or 3 minutes.

I inherited dandruff problem from my father. I take head bath everyday, if i dont my scalp gets filled with dandruff and extremely itchy. I used Head & Shoulders shampoo everyday which worked for dandruff but not itching. And it seemed that the shampoo worsened the hair loss problem; I started using herbal essence shampoo since last 15 months, i use it everyday. dandruff and itching are controlled but I still loose lot of hair.
I have a very itchy scalp not all over but in patches. Ive tried every scalp treatment shampoos etc, my doctor gave me zamiol which hasn't worked. I haven't got a dry scalp, no dandruff, redness or rash. I even tried nizoral fungal shampoo with no luck. At moment using a coal tar based shampoo but with no results. Could this be caused by an internal problem and not actually the scalp it self. I'm 45 and poss pre menapausal, could the hormone changes be responsible?
And it is alot thinner in just a couple weeks. My scalp is itchy like no other and I've used ever dandruff shampoo, home remedies, even cortisone cream on my scalp...nothing seems to keep the itch away. now I've started to get small lumps on my scalp and behind my left ear that are a little hard but moveable and after a few days now they've went away. I have no clue what is going on. Please any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I recently started taking a low dose of thyroxin for underactive thyroid and since then my scalp is insanely itchy. I do itch on my entire body but not like my scalp. Does anyone know if this is common or if in fact it is due to the condition or the medication. I feel totally embarassed by scratching everywhere as well as going insane with it...
I went from using tresseme or however its spelled to using head and shoulders dandruff shampoo and I no longer have an itchy scalp. The same thing happened with my body wash. Everything made me itchy so I switched to baby body wash.
Sorry but I don't have scaly, flaky, itchy, red skin; just itchy scalp and some pimples. I also have had no hair loss; if only I could on my legs and underarms, ha ha. That's why I asked if it could be related to rosacea. Has anyone every heard of rosacea spreading to the scalp; I know it can affect your eyes.
I get an mild itchy scalp sometimes, even before TX,i fine hydrogen peroxide liquid works.I have tried numerous other remedies but this seems to work .
I know the itchy skin and scalp has been hashed over and I feel like I have a handle on the skin, lotions, humidifier, cool showers, etc but the itchy scalp is not calming down. I wonder what people think while talking to me and I constantly itch scalp. My doc looked and there is no dandruff. I tried hot oil packs, all sorts of different shampoos, etc. thinking of going to salon and see if they have a suggestion. I know I saw somewhere here recently this being mentioned.
There is some redness but that could be from scratching. no scaling or signs of dandruff, etc. I have been to so many doctors and had tests for lupus, liver disease, hormonal problems but so far nothing has come out positive. One doctor mentioned folliculitus which could be plausible. It would mean an infection of the hair follicles which might explain why the antibiotics work.
You might have seborrheic dermatitis on your scalp. I have it and if i don't shampoo my hair daily my head itches and gets alot of flakes. My derm suggested that I buy a shampoo containing ketoconazole. I use Nizoral, It doesn't clean very well but seems to deal with the flaking fairly well.
with regards to your scalp and the itchy/flakiness do try using betnovate scalp solution it can be prescribed by your doctor but it works absolute wonders it stops the itching almost straight away and then continued useage clears the scabs etc when first applied it does burn and tingle but this is normal do enquire as it could really help!!!
I have used many different anti-dandruff shampoo with no luck. My scalp is itchy and feels EXTREMELY dry but at the same time if I run fingers through my hair it feels oily. I have noticed that I have red pimples on my scalp too. They have no pus or anything like that just a red bump and when I scratch on it some skin peels off. I think it may be scalp folliculitis. Can someone please help me?? I really don't want to be balding at such an early age!
I know have a rough hairline when i touch it and there's a couple flakes when i play with it but its not noticeable at all. It is itchy sometimes. Do i have symptoms of dandruff or lice? help!
I'm only 6 weeks but lately my scalp has been SUPER itchy.
I am 33 years old and my scalp has been driving me a little crazy. It's itchy and when I scratch, I notice bumps (big & small) bumps (painful sores) on it. I had this in 2009 for a bit and then, throughout my pregnancy in 2010 it disappeared. now it's back and far worse than it was before. I've tried cola tar & dandruff shampoos but neither have worked so far. I did see a dermatologist last year, but by the time I saw him, I had no symptoms so he couldn't help me.
Since I can't see in the back of my head I had a family member look and they said it's like dandruff but not flakes? but there's a lot if you blow on it, it just falls out of my hair. I've changed my shampoo to head and sholders and it seem to not be making a difference. To me it feels like a dry itch where it burn's when you itch it. Also I'm loosing a lot more hair than normal in the shower. I even thought it could be head lice...but that was a no. Any help would be appreciated!
I have no scaling or dandruff symptoms, just BURNING, red and EXTREMELY INTENSE itchy scalp. I was given some sort of steroid (can't remember the name of it) that is a foam consistency (like moose). She seemed more concerned about my knees, which turned out to be Granuloma Annulare. I have severe allergies to all trees and grass. not sure if that would cause the scalp issues though. The scalp issues started around Thanksgiving or Christmas (I think).
Sometimes it got so itchy that i scratch until the scalp sore and bleeds.i've tried so many methods but the dandruff thing would not go.I've tried using some lemon juice on the scalp one a week (traditional method), shampoo regularly and using coconut oil to avoid the hair become dry and brittle. The dandruff are still there. Is it some kind of disease? I want to know more about it and method to treat this condition.Thank you.
I have very itchy scalp and dandruff... I heard that the big shift in the hormone balance can cause this. I hope you are fine by now!!
The itch is not that unpleasant, kind of like the itch one would get, from an opiate, so I havent been taking any more anti-itch pills, because I avoid extra meds, as a genreral principle, in my daily life. But this itchy scalp is creeping me out~ there is no dandruff, and my scalp feels healthy, no hair loss yet, but I am wondering if I should start taking the Hydroxyzine again? I didn't like the way they made me feel so calm...I felt boring to myself, etc.
I tried a bunch of more heavy duty OTC shampoos for dandruff, but none worked. I used an essential oils scalp massage and that worked for a bit. now it is out of control and driving me crazy. One interesting note, at Christmas time I dyed my hair with one of those "intense" colour hair colourings. It burned and tingled my scalp, but afterward my scalp problems were gone for about 4 weeks. no itching, flaking or soreness.
I thought it was just from dandruff, which I get from this time of year, along with an itchy scalp. However, twice I have found centimeter-sized bugs in my hair when I was taking a shower. My mom has gone through my hair thoroughly three times and has found no bugs, only white flecks, which she can't distinguish dandruff from nit eggs. The white stuff hasn't multiplied or anything, but we want to be sure whether its lice or just dandruff.
