Itchy legs only at night

Common Questions and Answers about Itchy legs only at night

It usually happens at that time, and only when I'm at home. Only my legs display these symptoms. They do feel itchy sometimes after a shower, but not as severe (almost like an after-effect of whatever bothered me at night). I am a deep sleeper, and this itch on both my legs doesn't fail to wake me up night after night, month after month. I use moisturizer hoping that it helps (it doesn't). I recently came back from a visit to the US, and I can say I never woke up from itching while there.
Last night when I went to bed I laid there for Bout 20 min, thinking to myself, and then out of no where my legs started to itch, terribly. So bad that it kept me from sleeping! I didn't go to sleep until somwhere aroung three A.M. and now my leg are still itching terribly. I have tried everything!
I don't use any soaps with dyes or fragrance, I take short, cool showers and lotion right after, I don't have any allergies that I am aware of. the itching seems to happen after a shower and at night/in the morning ( I think because of temperature changes in my skin?). I don't know if I just have hypersensitive skin or what? it is odd that it would just come on out of the blue. It started last fall during the last trimester of my pregnancy.
hey... umm.. i'm 18 now and have been getting severely itchy legs for about 3-4 years... when I went to the doctor they told me it was hormonal and it would be gone within a few months... they also said to use lots of moisturiser on my legs.... I'm always self conscious about my legs... since the itching started because of the marks the scratches leave... I had my mum stressing about me thinking that I was cutting myself on my legs...
the only part on my body itching has been my legs. I have no rashes, no bumps, and nothing like shaving seems to be the cause. I have not changed soap, detergent, or lotion when I started having these problems, but have since tired different soaps like oatmeal, dry skin, and sensitive skin soaps. I have tried benadryl, and even put a humidifier in my room. It sometimes wakes me up at night, and my only option is a cold rag to sooth it.
I use Venus razor which i think is one of the best around. I have it real bad at night when i go to legs are a mess right now... Do you have any suggestion as to why? or what i can do different?
Im glad Im not the only one with "itchy" legs. I have had "itchy" legs for years. I have been told it was all in my head. And have tired almost everything for dry itchy skin. Its mostly my lower legs, the front and side. Sometimes its my upper leg. When they itch, it feels like they are itchy from the bones. I end up itching them so much that I tear my legs open, and usually get a faint scar. They seem dry usually, but are as smooth and soft as my hands are.
I have been dealing with itchy legs for over 15 years... and I am only 27! It is usually just my lower legs. I am so relieved to see that other people have my problem. My fiance thinks I am crazy I swear! And all my mom and doctor ever said was "put more lotion on". They just don't get it. It certainly can't be an allergic reaction... why would only my lower legs be allergic to something?
I had a problem with itching on my lower legs. at times it was so bad it kept me up all night, and I had scratches all over my lower legs. No rash, just itchy. I tried all kinds of ointments pills and cremes, and nothing worked. In one of these forums it was suggested to try cold water or ice packs. Another suggestion was Sarna Anti-Itch Lotion. These two suggestions worked for me.
okay. i need help my legs are super itchy i am 15, a female who lives in south florida.. i have itchy legs and have had it for a year already. it is after i shave. i cant use shaving cream cause i know im allergic to it. i want to wax but am afraid it maybe worse. my mom doesnt under stand . she says i have to put lotion cause there dry but usually just makes it worse and i get more red bumps then i did before.
It took about three weeks of doing this for the itchiness to completely go away but I'm still exfoliating my legs twice a week and my legs are no longer itchy and are extra smoothe! I can't find the original post of the person who recommended this to thank them but they saved my sanity! NO longer itching!
I don't feel anything when I am in the throws of my day, but let me sit at my desk for a while or on the couch at night watching TV and I get the itchy creepy crawlies that make me jump and itch everywhere. Mine is so bad that I can even get it in my arms and spots across my back. I take Mirapex for it and it has relieved the symptoms completely.
The strange is that the rash only apears at night or is mostly itchy at around 1 or 2 a.m. It is so intense it wakes me out of a deep sleep. I am married and my husband had itchy ankles before I started with my symptoms. His rash (which did not look like my rash) and itching has since stopped. I've been to the dermatologist but he did not take a scraping since the spots were not juicy (ughhh!) The strange thing is they seem to become inflamed in the middle of the night. Could this be scabies?
Ever since that happened I've been having severely itchy/rashy legs at night. It's only at night and seems to be exacerbated by hot showers. Mostly below the knee but it can creep up into the thighs too. I have tried weeding out gluten and it hasn't really worked though maybe I should do it for longer period of time. I honestly think it's a sulfate allergy as that is more consistent with the PPD allergy.
I have severe itching in my lower legs only when lie down to sleep in the night. I have no rashes. i have this problem for the past 3 years n im 37 now. Consulted a dermatologist who said it is prurigosimplex. The itching sometimes is like lots of mosquitoes biting especially when im standing n the same posture for more than 5 mins, but only at night. What could be the problem?
Since about November or December my legs have been extremely itchy. I thought it was dry skin, but lotion is not working and it has gotten worse. There are some little red bumps, but not in any pattern. They are just really really itchy What could this be?
it started on my arms, I've not changed any soaps, I don't use fabric softener, I've washed everything I own just in case of allergic reaction, When I scratch these white rash-like bumps show up all over my arms andlegs, it's worse at night to the point where I can't sleep. I've gone through tubes and tubes of savlon which helps to ease the pain and itchyness for about twenty minutes or so. I just...need it to sleep!
I started the Couch to 5K program about 7 weeks ago and this is when I began to notice the problem. It's only on my calves and shins but it drives me crazy--not just when I run but at various times throughout the day and night. I'd love to know what you found out and how you're doing.
Please help me!! I am suffering very badly from itchy legs.. I have NO RASH!! It usually triggered from when i take a shower, and when i get out its like the sky caves legs itch soooo bad! I have to put bags of frozen foods all over them to numb them so i don't scratch the heck out of them! However, it has been gettgin worse, they have been itching more and more and without needing a shower to trigger it.. Sometimes its when i lay down to go to bed, or when i wake up in the morning.
My mom who is 86 has had swollen, itchy, red ankles and calves for a couple of months. at Emergency, they told her it was an infection and gave antibiotics. When that didn't work, she went back and this time they told her it was a reaction to her blood pressure medication and to go see her physician. She has refused to see her doctor and her legs are getting worse. My brothers and I are worried sick. She won't go for help and we are so worried about her but we cannot help her.
I am only 17, but I have had the this un-godly "itchy leg syndrom/vibration" in my legs since i was 7. My mom tells me that nothings wrong with me, that i just need to excercise more. I am not active in sports or anything but I do walk to and from work everyday, thats about a half a mile. For me it happens in any weather condition, warm, cold and damp, but it really bothers me during the winter if i walk for more than 10 minutes or too fast.
There are many conditions that cause itching only at night - but as it hasn't subsided after ten months, you should probably see a dermatologist. I'm assuming you keep clean and dry downstairs, that it's not related to excessive sweating. I'd probably try washing in the morning, before bed - I'd be tempted to use a medicated jock/foot powder/spray for a couple nights and see if that allows it to subside (don't think it's going to hurt).
My girlfriend cant sleep good at night and I cant sleep at all. All of you are right about how to treat it and im going to tell you why. I just figured it out after I saw these posts and talked to a random person that i knew. I did alot of research and if you dont believe me you can look it up as far and long as you want and it will all come back to one thing! SULFatE! We are all allergic to sulfate! Wo wo wo I now your all screaming for more.. so ill feed you baby birds!
Yes! You totally describe me as well. Although I'm only itchy on my stomach and extremely itchy on my boobs, it drives me nuts when the itches attack me in public..ugh so stressful! What helps me is the Cocoa Butter cream I got at wal-mart, you should try it! It relieves the itches a little bit and it helps with preventing stretch marks caused by them. Although I'm already full of the stretch marks I still use it and it helps me most of the time!
When I was pg with my dd, I had a rash all the time, was itchy, especially at night. It drove me crazy. The Dr. said it was a rash some women get when pg. i only had it with my dd. I am hoping it doesn't happen this time around. I used the aveno lotion, it seemed to help a little. Your Dr may be able to give you better advice or something else to help.
