Isotretinoin side effects in males

Common Questions and Answers about Isotretinoin side effects in males

accutane

Avatar n tn The treatment requires close medical supervision by a dermatologist because the drug has many known side effects (many of which can be severe). About 25% of patients may relapse after one treatment. In those cases, a second treatment for another 4-6 months may be indicated to obtain desired results.
634590 tn?1293774093 Isotretinoin has many bad side effects, but muscle weakness is not one. It has so many side effects, I would be reluctant to take this medication. You can read the entire list of negative side-effects online -- just search for isotretinoin. However, since you're finished with your fifteen day course without incident, your risk in using this medication is greatly minimized. If you had a serious infection, this would of course weaken you. With constant pain, energy is always affected.
Avatar m tn Hello, Both these drugs have vulvaginitis and irregular periods as side effects in females but in males, it does not effect the semen and cause any changes. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar f tn I would call you dr and let him now what your symptoms are before continuing on. Also ask him if these side effects your having will go away. Does your dr know you have BP? I myself have an acne regimine with a dermatologist. I had to stay away from certain meds for acne because of BP. I research everything I take. Have you researched Isotretinion (Accutane)? I hope you feel better and get the answers you need.
546892 tn?1214525401 Before begining treatment with Accutain, an individual should discuss about his condition with the health care provider for the possible accutane benefits and side effects in order to get it clear whether the treatment is right. Accutain is used in the treatment of the severest of acne cases which haven't responded to all other types of acne treatments.
Avatar m tn Thanks, I should keep that in mind. I guess the dosage I am currently on is considered low in medical standards. I've already put my dosage on hold for 2 days now as I'm still unfazed about what accutane can do to my bones. There is a very minimal amount of research done on low dose accutane and it's side effects including that on epiphyseal plate available on the net. I guess it's a relatively novel thing?
Avatar m tn My body fat went from around 15 % to under 8 % after taking accutane. I am extremely thin now and cannot put on weight on no matter how much I eat or what I eat. For example I can eat a whole tub of ice-cream and has no affect on my body. I have read about others have this issue also. Isotretinoin (accutane) obviously messed up something in my body so that it doesn't metabolize or absorb food the way it did pre-accutane. If anyone has any knowledge in this area plz respond. ty.
Avatar m tn Again I consult with second, he prescribed me mentioned above, But I read from Internet that Isotretinoin has many side effects including hair fall, so I neglect that dosage of Isotretinoin by afraid , only azithromycin took for 6 days. Pimples are reduced to some extent but they are leaving scars on face. Is HH fudic cream will work for both pimples and scars ? Dosage of Minoz 50 (minocycline) will work for me if I takes this 20 days, is it good for health to take it in 6 months for 20 days ?
Avatar m tn I am at odds end about what to do because I am afraid about having long term, permanent eye problems and other side effects from this drug. I have a few questions: Is it normal to still be breaking out at the beginning of month 5 on accutane? How heavily do you believe that in order to acheive permanent remission that you have to take a high enough cumulative dose based on your body weight because I am not going to come anywhere close to this based on my weight and dose?
Avatar f tn It is believed that isotretinoin works primarily by reducing the secretion of oils from the glands, however some studies suggest that it affects other acne-related factors as well. Isotretinoin has been shown to be very effective in treating severe acne and can either improve or clear well over 80% of patients. The drug has a much longer effect than anti-bacterial treatments and will often cure acne for good.
Avatar m tn Intake of alcohol while taking this medication may increase the risk of certain side effects like pancreatitis. There can be increased risk of bone problems, including an increased risk of broken bones. This drug must not be used during pregnancy or by those who may become pregnant during treatment. Other more serious side effects include increased blood cholesterol, lipid, and triglyceride levels and abnormal liver enzymes.

Avatar m tn Discuss with your dermatologist. If you don't want to accept the possiblity of those side effects then don't take the medications. All medications have side effects. Each year several thousand people bleed to death from aspirin. One person's cure is another person's side effect. The only people that would have you believe that if a side effect occurs the doctor or the pharmaceutical company did something wrong are trial lawyers.

Aside from the rash, other observed side effects include: alopecia , bruising, dry mouth, dry skin, flushing, fragility of skin, hair abnormalities, hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation, pruritus, abnormal wound healing ( ref: http://www.rxlist.com/accutane-drug.htm).
Avatar m tn It always take years before main media acknowledg side effects. Maybe in the future it will be proved.Accutane is 5 alpha reductase inhibitor like finasteride and saw palmetto. These meds including Saw Palmetto are evil drugs. They have destroyed lives of million of people. But a lot of people don't know about these side effects because doctors deny them and the cases are not reported to main media. I am also suffering from sides from Saw Palmetto. My life has destroyed.
Avatar m tn Hi. I have answered this question in the acne forum, Eloise.
Avatar m tn Second treatment was low dose isotretinoin - 4 months on 10mg and 4 months on 20mg [8 months in total]. Isotretinoin cleared my scalp 100% just after one week. I was obviously very happy, because during 8 months of my thereapy I didn't had a single pimple on my scalp. Unfortunately, everything came back 6 months post isotretinoin treatment.
Avatar f tn Overdose of vit A has its own side effects. I am still in extensive research mode, so maybe investigate all this and see if you can relate to anything. Some also say its a mould infection.
Avatar n tn Hello, Cortisone shots are sometimes used for treatment of acne but they are not without side effects. In addition to the systemic side effects, they can cause flushing of the skin, skin pigmentation and sometimes an allergic reaction to cortisone. You can go in for other treatments like dermabrasion, chemical peels, laser resurfacing, punch grafts etc. I hope that helps. Please do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.Warm regards.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know about the scarring after-effects of accutane? I've read several reports of scarring left after it's use. I'm sure that scars are to be expected, as with any open wound, but I don't know if these reports are by anyone with abnormalities with healing/scarring. Here is the situation... I have mild, maybe slightly moderate acne. I get keloids on other parts of my body, but thankfully not my face. I still get abnormal facial scarring though.
Avatar m tn Im a 27 year old male from Sweden who have been sick for perhaps all my life, or since i was very young. I have been going to the doctors for almost 10 years and im still undiagnosed, pretty much all of my tests have been normal. I recently found this forum and decided to share my situation. I divide my symptoms into 3 sections: Appearance - I look ill, pale and sick. My skin color changes very easily depending on what type of lighting there is.
Avatar f tn Hopefully some other members here can suggest an AD with little to no sexual side effects. I think Wellbutrin may be one of them. If you have anxiety along with your depression you might not want to take this med as it can make it worse because it is more stimulating. Or you may need to add an antianxiety med with it. Take care.
Avatar n tn chapped lips, insomnia, feeling tired, joint pain (from stop of treatment until month 4, and still going), muscle aches, dry mouth, and dry skin. Like I said, it work wonders on my cystic acne. I “used” to get huge sores on my face, butt, thighs, ears, and back, that wouldn't heal. I could always find puss by scraping a finger over the deep pores on my face. It started when I was in 6th or 7th grade, and it was a blight on my childhood.
Avatar n tn I've been on Acutane for three months, and I've been taking 40 mg doses for two months. It's working greatk and I really don't want to stop taking it. I've had a lot of mood swings lately, and I feel like I might be getting depressed. Not severely, just mild. However, I've had a lot of bad and stressful things going on in my life lately, so I can't definetey say that the Acutane is the cause of this.
Avatar m tn You and he should be aware that there are MANY serious side effects that can occure with taking the medication Isotretinoin, also known as Accutane. It can affect the bones and cause osteoporosis and joint pain if taken for long periods of time. I've got several friends who's lives have been made terrible by taking this medication for long periods of time. Hopefully he's only taking it for short periods of time with breaks in between.
