Isotretinoin side effects eyes

Common Questions and Answers about Isotretinoin side effects eyes

accutane

Avatar m tn Artificial tears are recommended throughout the treatment with isotretionoin as first line of prevention of infection. Dry eyes and other eyes-related side effects rarely persist after discontinuation of therapy. Possibility of developing longer lasting ophthalmic (eye) problems has to be estimated by an ophthalmologist and will affect decision about further treatment with systemic retinoids. FYI - Systemic retinoids (such as isotretinoin) should not be first line of acne therapy.
Avatar n tn The treatment requires close medical supervision by a dermatologist because the drug has many known side effects (many of which can be severe). About 25% of patients may relapse after one treatment. In those cases, a second treatment for another 4-6 months may be indicated to obtain desired results.
Avatar m tn Discuss with your dermatologist. If you don't want to accept the possiblity of those side effects then don't take the medications. All medications have side effects. Each year several thousand people bleed to death from aspirin. One person's cure is another person's side effect. The only people that would have you believe that if a side effect occurs the doctor or the pharmaceutical company did something wrong are trial lawyers.
Avatar f tn Some side effects can be serious.
Avatar m tn Intake of alcohol while taking this medication may increase the risk of certain side effects like pancreatitis. There can be increased risk of bone problems, including an increased risk of broken bones. This drug must not be used during pregnancy or by those who may become pregnant during treatment. Other more serious side effects include increased blood cholesterol, lipid, and triglyceride levels and abnormal liver enzymes.
634590 tn?1293774093 Isotretinoin has many bad side effects, but muscle weakness is not one. It has so many side effects, I would be reluctant to take this medication. You can read the entire list of negative side-effects online -- just search for isotretinoin. However, since you're finished with your fifteen day course without incident, your risk in using this medication is greatly minimized. If you had a serious infection, this would of course weaken you. With constant pain, energy is always affected.
Avatar f tn I would call you dr and let him now what your symptoms are before continuing on. Also ask him if these side effects your having will go away. Does your dr know you have BP? I myself have an acne regimine with a dermatologist. I had to stay away from certain meds for acne because of BP. I research everything I take. Have you researched Isotretinion (Accutane)? I hope you feel better and get the answers you need.
Avatar m tn Thanks, I should keep that in mind. I guess the dosage I am currently on is considered low in medical standards. I've already put my dosage on hold for 2 days now as I'm still unfazed about what accutane can do to my bones. There is a very minimal amount of research done on low dose accutane and it's side effects including that on epiphyseal plate available on the net. I guess it's a relatively novel thing?
Avatar f tn Does anyone know about the scarring after-effects of accutane? I've read several reports of scarring left after it's use. I'm sure that scars are to be expected, as with any open wound, but I don't know if these reports are by anyone with abnormalities with healing/scarring. Here is the situation... I have mild, maybe slightly moderate acne. I get keloids on other parts of my body, but thankfully not my face. I still get abnormal facial scarring though.
Avatar f tn Overdose of vit A has its own side effects. I am still in extensive research mode, so maybe investigate all this and see if you can relate to anything. Some also say its a mould infection.
Avatar m tn Hello, Weight loss is one of the side effects of taking Accutane and it may cause anorexia as well. Eat a healthy nutritious diet and consult your doctor if weight loss is a major problem. You may need to be put on some other medication for acne rather than Accutane. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
Avatar m tn Again I consult with second, he prescribed me mentioned above, But I read from Internet that Isotretinoin has many side effects including hair fall, so I neglect that dosage of Isotretinoin by afraid , only azithromycin took for 6 days. Pimples are reduced to some extent but they are leaving scars on face. Is HH fudic cream will work for both pimples and scars ? Dosage of Minoz 50 (minocycline) will work for me if I takes this 20 days, is it good for health to take it in 6 months for 20 days ?

Avatar m tn I have been using Isotretinoin since July 2021, and the cumulative dosage is about 100mg/kg. After I stopped using Isotretinoin, I found that my eyes were very dry, and it has been maintained for about a month and a half. I know that Isotretinoin can inhibit the secretion of body oil. I want to know whether the drug's inhibition of sebaceous glands is permanent? Will the secretion of oil recover slowly over time? Permanent dry eye is a disaster for me.
Avatar n tn Hi, Accutane is an isotretinoin, may indeed cause such rash (including facial erythema, seborrhea, and eczema) as a side effect. Effects are usually dose related ( dependent on the dosage applied). Aside from the rash, other observed side effects include: alopecia , bruising, dry mouth, dry skin, flushing, fragility of skin, hair abnormalities, hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation, pruritus, abnormal wound healing ( ref: http://www.rxlist.com/accutane-drug.htm).
Avatar f tn Has anybody gotten a stuffy head and "funny feeling" eyes as a side effect from SSRI's. I have had these side effects before but they went away after a month or so. I'm on Celexa and this stuffy feeling(like you are coming down with a cold) seems to be sticking with me. The med is working well except for this uncomfortable feeling in and around my eyes.
Avatar m tn Im a 27 year old male from Sweden who have been sick for perhaps all my life, or since i was very young. I have been going to the doctors for almost 10 years and im still undiagnosed, pretty much all of my tests have been normal. I recently found this forum and decided to share my situation. I divide my symptoms into 3 sections: Appearance - I look ill, pale and sick. My skin color changes very easily depending on what type of lighting there is.
Avatar n tn mild acne flare, dryness of skin, lips and mucous membranes, infection of the cuticles, itch, skin fragility, skin peeling, rash, flushing, photosensitivity, nose bleeds, dry eyes, eye irritation, conjunctivitis, reduced tolerance to contact lenses, hyperlipidaemia, raised liver enzymes, headaches, hair thinning, muscle pain, joint pain and back pain. Reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isotretinoin If it persists, it is best to inform your doctor and discuss alternative medications.
Avatar m tn http://www.ehealthme.com/ds/accutane/hashimoto's+thyroiditis That's poorly written documentation and they don't give any details of the study. It says "On June 8, 2013: 26,700 people reported side effects when taking Accutane. Among them, 47 people (0.18%) have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis"....... It doesn't indicate that the Accutane "caused" the Hashimoto's; it simply said that 47 people had it...... AND 47 out of 26, 700 is a pretty small number.
Avatar m tn s great, but for others sometimes things start going down-hill and sometimes this is when side effects decide to emerge that would traditionally emerge during treatment (e.g. joint pain, flushing, redness, rosacea, depression, chronic fatigue, Seb derm, hair loss.. even teeth breaking). I don't mean to scare you but this appears to happen too often (see acne.org).
Avatar m tn Loss of apetite, dehydration. Increased bilrubin of 1.3 mg/dl SGOT/SGPT is normal with 24/15 Pain in bones, which has aggravated due to this Itching on the face Should I continue taking the above medications? If yes, what should be the dosage? One more question.....Scars are seen on the face due to the use of scalpel for removing the pimples and subsequent use of an anti-inflammatory/anti-biotic injection by a doctor...What should be done to make my face even.......
Avatar m tn Thank you doctor, I started taking Azithromycin one week ago [500 mg thrice weekly for 12 weeks] due to it's low side effects profile. I can already see improvement. I am also using shampoo with ciclopiroxi olaminum [15mg/g]. And to be honest - I don't have much faith in doctors where I live. Most of them only prescribe antibiotics and thats it. While I'm sure I should undergo some scalp biopsies or other scalp tests. If you could suggest anything I would be very grateful.
Avatar f tn It is not unusual for individuals to have side effects when they begin using a retinol product. Most manufacturers recommend beginning with 2 applications a week for the first week or so depending on how your skin reacts. After that you can increase to every other night and then to every night as your skin adjusts. I have used several products with retinol and this has always been the case for me. I do not have sensitive skin.
Avatar n tn Hello, Cortisone shots are sometimes used for treatment of acne but they are not without side effects. In addition to the systemic side effects, they can cause flushing of the skin, skin pigmentation and sometimes an allergic reaction to cortisone. You can go in for other treatments like dermabrasion, chemical peels, laser resurfacing, punch grafts etc. I hope that helps. Please do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.Warm regards.
