Avatar n tn Pleurisy is an inflammation of tissues around the lung, and in general, there is not much chance of contagion. Pleurisy is not necessarily inside the lung, but usually affects the sliding surfaces that surround the lungs. Thus, aerosolization of the infectious agent through coughing is not usually an issue. Bear in mind that the inflammation may, in some cases, result from tuberculosis. In such a case there is danger of contagion.
7900821 tn?1395192104 Lung cancer can predispose one to pneumonia but in that case the pneumonia would recur in the same place in your lung each time. In addition it is quite unlikely that the radiologist would mistake lung cancer for pneumonia. That still leaves the question of why you should have recurrent pneumonia, unanswered and that is a question that will require further investigation.
Avatar n tn Thanks, yllas. what did your doctor say - is it curable? is it contagious? I don't recall having pneumonia or whooping cough before. my brother had bronchopneumonia when he was 3 years. but he seems to be in perfect health, in fact his xray result last year was clear. I really worried that his might affect my pre employment. I already signed my probationary contract but unfavorable medical results may be grounds for them to revoke my contract.
Avatar m tn So about a week and a half ago I was diagnosed with bronchitis/ walking pneumonia. He said that it was bronchitis but then he found a specific spot and said it was pneumonia in its beginning stages. He gave me the blue inhaler, azithromycin (I'm allergic to penicillin), and told me to take tylenol four times a day. My symptoms leading up to this were dry cough, wheezing, and coughing fits so violent it set off my gag reflex and it has hard to breath.
Avatar f tn Did you get walking pneumonia after a flu or a cold? Or did you just start getting the lung issue by itself? Usually "walking pneumonia" is a dry cough with sometimes stabbing pain in the side. You usually feel okay other wise but the pain is bad . Or you can just have the hacking cough secondary usually to a flu or cold.
Avatar m tn I will have repeat xray possible cat scan. Asking in advance. How often is this found? Can pneumonia look like lung cancer? Day two of medication and I do feel better and fever broke. I still have pains from my cough and still expereince the sweaty, hot and cold bouts but feel better despite general aches and pains. They said possible cavitary pneumoina. What is this?
1609219 tn?1298104935 I am very sensitive to smoke, and that can trigure a sinus infection-but can that really turn into walking pneumonia? Is it possible It has never totally left my system? Any help would do. Thank you.
Avatar m tn ve waited 2 weeks and now on Tuesday I get the results (2 days time) I am still terrified it could be something much worse like Lung cancer. If nothing is proven with the results I will repeat the CT scan in 6 months to monitor it. In short the antibiotics have cleared all the symptoms but I still have a bit of discomfort in my chest but isn't caused when breathing. I'm just looking for other peoples experiences and input as I haven't been able to find anything specific for my age.
Avatar f tn I just compeleted a 7 day course of antibiotics for walking pneumonia but a 1.5 cm lucency in the right lower lung “concerning for a cavitary lesion” was seen on my chest X-ray I am terrified that it’s lung cancer. No family history of lung cancer. No fevers. No hemoptysis. CBC and basic chem panel were normal. Just a productive cough. I’m supposed to have a chest CT when the cough resolves but I am so worried it’s cancer. Anyone else have any insight or experience with this??

Avatar n tn Hello, My most sincere apologies for your question not being addressed. I posted a response on 5/29 that does not appear to have been posted to the site. How is your daughter now? I hope improved. The usual guidance regarding flying after pneumonia is that once a person has been taking antibiotics for 48-72 hours, without a fever for at least 24 hours, and their pulse oximetry is "normal" (this is a measurement of oxygen in the blood), then a person is "okay" for flying.
Avatar f tn Hi, my mom is 81 yrs. old. She gets out of breath just walking a few steps.. She's on dialysis three times a week for three hrs. She has pneumonia for about a month and she has had x-rays done on her lungs when she went in to have blood work done (she's on warfarin). The doctor didn't like the looks of the x-rays and had her take a CT scan. They found a knot on her lung. She'll be seeing a lung doctor next week. Should I be concern she might have cancer?
Avatar n tn Could this have been walking pneumonia? Almost everything I come across regarding pneumonia discusses high fever, cold/flu like symptoms, and being able to hear it with a stethoscope. In my case, I had fatigue, presumably pleuritic chest pain, and shortness of breath. That seems to be about it. I am not sure if any of the other symptoms (i.e., GI issues, dehydration, and misdiagnosed hernia) are related--which is why I went into so much detail.
Avatar n tn Buddy was diagnosed with pneumonia and has gone through a course of doggy antibiotics and 3 courses of human antibiotics. The right lung is full of fluid. He would get better, then be energetic and get worse. It was suggested that he may not have pneumonia but CHF. Is there anything to do to help him. The vet doesn't seem to have any suggestions. Would a diuretic help? He's starting to not eat now.
Avatar n tn I'm just recovering from walking pneumonia with partial lung collapse and pleural effusion, it's been three weeks now but even simple things such as talking for long periods and picking up after my kids leaves me breathless and tired. it's so frustrating especially since my pulmonologist hasn't responded to my ph. call regarding these questions. Thanks!!

Avatar m tn After hearing my symptoms, he decided that I had the virus that causes Walking Pneumonia and gave me some medicine. A week later, I was getting worse. I was having very labored breathing (with tightness in my chest). A 2nd trip was made to ambulatory care to see the same doctor. I got a chest x-ray, which showed some cloudiness across both lobes. He said that I had Walking Pneumonia and gave me different medicine. 6 days later, I woke up at 4AM gasping for air.
1100598 tn?1413127426 Ever since then, I have had chest pain, shortness of breath, fainting spells, weakness, back pain, a worseneing cough, low grade fever, chills, rash on my belly or chest, and nausea. The swollen lymph nodes have also returned. My doctor says I have bronchitis/walking pneumonia and put me on doxycycline on tuesday, but I am not feeling any better. I only have one day of antibiotics left.
Avatar m tn Consider PTB infection, both lungs, cannot exclude concurrent left lung pneumonia. Left upper lung partial volume loss.
Avatar f tn Well, my husband had the same symptoms as well, but when he woke up today, it was harder for him to breathe so he went to the hospital and found out he had walking pneumonia but was given nothing to treat it because they said he has to get over it himself. Now I'm worried that it might also be what I have, but they found out by X-ray, and I know I shouldn't get an X-ray while 20 weeks preganant. And even if that was it, would they even treat me for it?
1232362 tn?1333135406 My cats have upper respiratory infections (being spread amongst themselves by violent sneezing despite my best efforts) and I'm wondering if I can pick this up from them. I have asthma and am prone to these infections myself and have had both walking and regular pneumonia a few times. I'm taking all the regular precautions: washing my hands, etc.
5601163 tn?1370701672 Could be residual changes from the pneumonia -- many times the xray takes longer to completely resolve than the symptoms, even after a course of antibiotics. Sometimes, pneumonia develops in response to mild airway blockage from a mass or tumor, so if they saw something (even small or subtle), they probably just want a CT to make sure it's not something like that.
