Has anyone tried extended release Topamax or Topiramate? It is called Trokedi XR. I am going to try it because my memory is so bad on Topamax. My neurologist said it might be better with Trokedi XR but it is very expensive. So if you can tell me before I buy it I would appreciate any feedback.

Topamax is used to prevent migraine. It will not stop a migraine that's already occurring. It is not a pain medication. You can read about it at Topamax.com.

I never had issues with headaches but still get them as normally as I used to. The only side effect I have from topamax is the tingling in the toes sometimes, and the suppressed feeling that I don't want to smoke anymore or eat as much anymore. Junk food makes me feel sick. My doctor said it has that receptor to trick that part of your mind. Sorry if you thought I was upset. I'm not, I just was showing you that they're are people who do use it to lose weight.

ve been in touch with my psychiatrist and my neurologist and the neurologist is who is guiding me in tapering off of the topiramate by 50 mg per day. As a medical professional myself, I know not to take myself off medications without my doctor's help. Having been bpd for as long as I can recall, I have learned how to cope with the negative thoughts and do not act on them. My dad committed suicide when I was a child and I could never do that to my own children.

it does relieve the headaches as a daily medication, just as long as they get the dosing correct. (and make sure you take it at the same time every day) i have noticed if i take it late then i tend to have the headaches the next day. you might see if they can put you on a medication in case you have a headache while on the topamax.

ok ok , I started topiramate for 2 moths now, the first month the cravings was less, and after a month the doc, change the dosage, now I'm on 50 twice a day, I don't think its working. I haven't lost any weight, does this meds take time?? Should I been seeing result ? am I wasting my time? I really haven't been experiencing the side effects, little bit at first, but nothing to cry about. If anybody have any advice please any is helpful!

I have chronic migraine so I have been on topiramate several times but every time I got on I remembered how awful the side effects were and why I decided to go off in the first place, (besides it did absolutely nothing to help my migraines) and I lost A LOT of hair too. it would seriously come out in clumps in the shower, we would have to vacuum every day because there would be so much hair on the carpet. I looked it up online and found many others losing their hair from Topamax.

i agree that it's very odd for a doc to leave the med decision up to you. i don't have epilepsy (my son does); but i've been on both of these meds. i've been on the lamotrigine for depression (it didn't work) and i currently take the topamax to control migranes. yes, topamax is also called "topastupid" and "dopamax" because i swear i loose IQ points on a daily basis. I've been taking Topiramate, which is the generic for Topamax for several years for peripheral neuropathy... I already had my thyroid condition when I started taking the Topiramate, but it has not affected my thyroid condition in any way, at all. Topamax does have some unwanted side effects for some people, so it's not effective for everyone. Your doctor should know this and be willing to address the issue...

I've been taking Topamax 50mg-100mg daily and I have been also taking Yasmin. The two were told to me to be ineffective when used together, so I've been using a back up method of condoms. I'm unhappy with this so my OBGYN switched me to Zovia, which I do not like. My question is, could YAz and Topamax at 50-100mg, be taken together?

I coughed myself awake this morning, which scared the heck out of me. And now my husband tells me that I've been coughing in my sleep since my NL started me on topamax. Current list of meds Topiramate (topamax) 50mg 1 tablet 2 times daily, Amitriptyline 100mg 1 tablet at bedtime, Cyclobenzaprine (flexeril) 10mg 1 tablet at bedtime, and Butalbital/APAP/Caffeine (fioricet) 1 tablet to 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours as needed. And my ENT has me on Diazepam 2mg 1 tablet 3 times daily.

What can be done about my headaches? I do not believe that putting my on vikidin is the solution to the problem. Please someone help.

I am a 40 yr old female with a history of migraines. I've always used Topamax as a maintenance rx & Imitrex injections as a rescue rx. My migraines have been under control for over a yr. In the last 3 months, my headaches have returned. I have also noticed that memory (short & long term) & my cognitive skills have been affected. I.E. I can't remember parts of conversations that I only had 5 minutes ago.

It was in the lowest $$ bracket in my coverage, I only had to pay $15 for it. I hope it works the same as the non-generic. :) Just thought others might want to know.

But, now the eye shaking and the increased pressure is scaring me. Is this likely side effects from the Topiramate? I have also noticed that when my eye is shaking that sometimes I also feel a shaking sensation in the back of my head, like almost like my brain is shaking just in the back near the neck. Now I take a supplement high in potassium daily and the pins and needles is gone and the pain in the elbows and wrists only appears during bad weather. I've had issues with the Topamax making me so loopy and have just come down on my dose because of it. I'm now experimenting with adding supplements that are suppose to help control migraines with the lower dose of Topamax. I have also lost the ability to sweat while on Topamax, weird...

All my thyroid problems happened at the same time I was peri-menopausal AND taking Topiramate. But I was on the Topiramate for quite some time and had been on a much higher dose. You caught your symptoms quickly, so I think that you'll be OK.

Hi, The reason you were prescribed the medications was mood swings and migraines. Do not take the side effect of topiramate that is weight loss to be the aim in using the medication. Are your symptoms of migraine and mood swings better after taking the medications? Carry on regular exercises to help you lose weight and plan your diet schedule accordingly. Consult your neurologist before you stop taking any medication or even change its dose. Let us know if you have any doubts.

always good to let them know what you are doing or if it is ok with him as well...could be that you get used to it and the effects wont be as drastic after a while...if you then still cant tolerate it, perhaps he can switch you to another drug...everyone is different...i react very drastically to anything that can make you sleepy...if it says drowsiness is a side effect, i feel it...many dont have this reaction...

I started taking Topamax a week ago tomorrow, I can tell you as strange as it may sound the only side effects I have had so far would be the tiredness, and that is not even that bad just over sleep a little in the AM. I have also lost the taste for my beloved diet coke. Other then that I have not really seen anything major going on. I am on 25mg to start and will go up to 50 mg starting next Friday. I am curious what will happen then but good luck to you.
