Is tamiflu effective

Common Questions and Answers about Is tamiflu effective

tamiflu

Avatar n tn A doctor can write a prescription for any patient, regardless of age. He may have meant that your son doesn't fit the criteria for being helped by the drug. For example, Tamiflu is only helpful if started in the first 48 hours of the flu. You don't want him taking a medicine that won't help, and drugs become less effective when given to people that they won't help.
Avatar n tn You may actually experience fewer or less severe symptoms for having gotten the vaccination. As far as Tamiflu, yes, it is safe during pregnancy. I have taken it myself. Hope you feel better soon.
Avatar m tn abreva is barely effective for oral herpes. it was ineffective on genital herpes which is why they never sought out marketing for it for genital herpes. as far as I know, tamiflu isn't effective for all viruses in general. I know of no studies that show it is effective for herpes. should your symptoms reoccur, be seen promptly for a proper exam. otherwise you can repeat your herpes igg blood tests again 3-4 months post encounter as mistakeguy already suggested.
Avatar f tn check the expiration date on the tamiflu and a pneumonia shot probably wont do any good seeing as this is an unseen unheard of virus until now.
707563 tn?1626361905 According to the latest FluView Report from the CDC, the flu rate is increasing, and it's becoming more dangerous. A different strain, the H3N2 strain (a variation of the swine flu), is now spreading across the globe. https://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/summary.htm https://www.prevention.com/health/a26551895/cdc-new-flu-strain-outbreak-2019/ https://www.who.
Avatar n tn Tamiflu is completely safe for pregnant mama's. I'm a pharmacy assistant, a dispensary assistant and used to be a medical receptionist and a practice manager. So I'm partially aware of what's safe and whats not (obviously not as advanced as doctors and pharmacists) but it is most definitely safe to take. It's generally used for Influenza though not just a common cold.
Avatar f tn 30 weeks pregnant, has anyone ever took tamiflu while pregnant? Any side affects to you or your child after birth?
Avatar n tn You should always get your flu shot unless you have a immune system problem. The shot is effective for the strain of the flu it was made for this year as far as I know. But there could be other strains going around this year that it will not work for. Specialmom is right tamiflu only works within the first few hours and after that there is not Mich you can so other than rest, Tylenol and fluids.
Avatar f tn My OB called me and told me that as a prevention she wanted to put me on Tamiflu which is not recommended for pregnant women because the side effects are unknown. She said that the benefits would outweigh the negatives most likely because there have already been deaths linked to this strain of flu. The pharmacist didn't seem worried because I am 18 weeks along. Any of you ladies been put on tamiflu? Should I trust my doctor and pharmacist?
Avatar f tn Yes I took tamiflu when I was pregnant with my son it's on the lowest scale for harming you or the baby. In other words its safe.
167 tn?1374173817 OB says to take Tamiflu and start today, but Tamiflu is not recommended for pregnancy based on unknown reactions to unborn children. Hubby and I don't know what decision is the best for us. Any opinions? The prescription is waiting for me...just so scared either way. I am leaning towards taking my chances and not taking it, but that is not the recommendation. What if I harm my baby by taking it? What if I do by not taking it??
Avatar f tn Get to a doctor and get a tamiflu prescription asap if you test positive. It took me almost a month to recover.
973741 tn?1342342773 The reason they did it (instead of just assuming it was flu and staying home), is that Tamiflu is effective at shortening the time someone has the flu and making them feel a lot better fast, especially if the person is a child. I didn't know Tamiflu was that good: I remember when it was first developed, I think, and the stories were sort of meh because it doesn't *cure* the flu.
7714453 tn?1394714282 I had the flu when I was 6 months Prego with my first...they gave me tamiflu...
6822962 tn?1396329659 ) If I were to get sick again (pregnant or not) I would want tamiflu again!! Im 32w3d and my princess is doing great! Hope you feel better!
6576704 tn?1383187473 ve super sick since yesterday went in to the er tonight and was told i have the h1n1 infuenza they told me i have to be put on medication wich is tamiflu but i am so scared for my baby I'm am 31 weeks pregnant and have two other kids has anyone experience this while pregnant and took that medication was it safe for baby?
Avatar m tn It did sort of answer my question as far as the timing goes. All we can do is try it. I used Tamiflu once because I got exposed and felt it coming on before a surgery that had been rescheduled two other times already. It worked like a charm - in combination with Sambucol - and knocked it right out of my system.
Avatar f tn Tamiflu is in no way safe during pregnancy. The risks outweigh the benefits I'm pretty sure.its class c. I had flu last January 7 months pregnant and they couldn't give me anything. But tell me to stay hydrated!!
Avatar f tn So I spoke with my doctor today and she said it's not harmful to the baby but she also said that as soon as I feel better to stop taking it...
551343 tn?1506830518 Many people with MS took it and it was also used in Parkinsons. Amantadine stopped working for flu so we now have tamiflu. So many people have been given tamiflu a resistance must happen shortly. A nasty chesty cough is typical with swine flu but chest infections and pneumonia are complications. If she is continuing to bring up green mucus I would insist on seeing her GP.
Avatar f tn They may want to prescribe you tamiflu which only is effective if you start it within the first 24 hours of symptoms. I got influenza in December and my doctor said that the benefits of it far outweigh the risks because influenza in pregnancy is super serious and can lead to death for you and baby if it gets bad enough. Try to stay cool and hydrated if you can't get in and if your fever spikes head to the ER.
