Avatar n tn My blood preasure has been high since before I found out I was a diabetic. He also has me on pravachol. My cholestrol was high before I was told I was a diabetic. It has read the same since I have been on this drug. Would it be wiser to change either of the drugs or to add plavix? I have been on pravachol for at least 6 years and diabetic only two. Another area I have noticed in your forum, is the effect of caffine on blood sugars.
Avatar n tn I take prevacid for heartburn and pravachol for high cholesterol; also using mupirocin ointment since I had sinus surgery in September.
Avatar n tn Is atorvastatin or pravastatin better at monitoring cholestoral? My doctor prescribed the generic pravastatin as a more afordable alternative to atorvastatin but also doubled the amount I take (from 20 mg of atorvastatin to 40 mg of pravastatin). Should I be concerned about the effectiveness of pravastatin?
Avatar n tn Hi...I am on numerous meds...heart(tachycardia arrythmia)-ATENOLOL; High Cholesterol-CRESTOR; Hernia-PRAVACHOL; Fibromyalgia & Osteo-Arthrytis-KETOROLAC; water retention-LASIX; Sinus-FLONASE; Dysrythmia-ATIVAN. I have also been on EFFEXOR for 5 years for severe depression. My dosage has been increased twice in the past month--I now take 187.5 mg...I woke up at about 12 midnight last Sunday and I have no recall of the past 4 days; however, I apparently withdrew $7000.
Avatar n tn The level of creatine phosphokinase enzyme should be checked. If this is raised then there is muscle injury and the drugs should b stopped. If CPK is normal, then the dose and exercise adjustment should help. Fat-soluble statins like Lipitor and Zocor cause more damage than water soluble statins like Pravachol and Crestor. Hence the latter should be tried at lower dose.
Avatar n tn however, I have high blood pressure (norvasc), osteopena (sp) and high cholesteral (pravachol). I really don't want to take fossamax or any more drugs than necessary, but also do not want a recurrence of breast cancer. Is there a clinical study and shows femara vs placebo rather than femara vs tamoifen (novartis trial)? What is the general recommendation? Can you stop femara if side effects become a quality of life issue? Thank you.
Avatar f tn But I would like to try a Non Statin is there is one on the market, or would there be supplements that are available and have good results? Mainly I would like names of non statins to research and discuss.
Avatar n tn Meaning that most of the time I am cold, and quite sensitive to cold, but when I get hot such as if I am in a car and a heat vent is blowing on me it will make me feel ill. The PCP ran a bunch of bloodwork including TSH, B12, CBC, blood sugar, lactic acid, CPK, HCY, Lupus, ACL, PRTC, PS, and ANT 3. He found all to be fine except cholesterol. (TSH was 1.28) He put me on 20mg Pravachol for the cholesterol. I also take 0.
Avatar m tn I do have in my family some cases of high cholesterol, all temporary and diagnosed as stress related cases. Her daily diet did not changed, she eats well (meat without fat, vegetables, fruits) as I said, she is very active(she plays all day). The only difference about her is that she has swollen eyes when she wakes up or after crying(more then normal). Doctors said that is not a symptom and that she is in good health. The same doctors were wrong before so...
Avatar n tn My understanding is that the statins with the greatest LDL reducing effect are Crestor, Lipitor, Zocor, and Pravachol, in that order. I don’t mention Leschol and Mevacor since they appear to be rarely used since recently due to the aforementioned being more powerful. Do we have any available solid data on the effects of the various individual statins other than LDL reduction? For example, do we know which ones raise HDL the most? What about effects on particle size or Lp(a), etc.
Avatar m tn What was/is the size of the aorta and left ventricle? Nevertheless, it wouldn't be a cause for a decline in mental facility. The low heart rate is somewhat unusual unless you are in very good physical condition. It is possible and the worst case scenario is that you may have experienced TIA's (transient and tiny blood clot to the brain) or a minor stroke.
Avatar n tn My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing. I am really troubled by my doctor's lack of concern. Is it true that I do not have other options?
Avatar m tn The pain could be neurological, may be nerve involvement or facial neuralgia. Unless any examination is done the diasease diagnosis is difficult.

808904 tn?1307057809 I have lost 100 pounds these last two years and walk 30 minutes each day without any discomfort whatsoever. I had a 70% blockage in left carotid and had subsequent endarterectomy. Right side is 35%. I have had follow-ups and these are ok with left one clean and the other stays the same. I eat nothing much but oatmeal, veggies, fruit and fish and whole grains. I am on 80 mg pravachol per day. I do have some stomach burning and take 300 mg. of rantidine twice a day.
Avatar n tn Hello, is the drug induced type normalize after someone stops taking the medication? say...Anti psychotics? Does the condition persist even after stopping the drug? Any other way to explain this? I've been ordered an adrenaline test, which I hope to do next week and just wanted some theories as to my sudden weakness/dizziness when angry or agitated. None in my family (to my knowledge) has/had this condition however.
808904 tn?1307057809 s inner layers may be helpful to determine if there are any beginnings of CAD and CT angiogram for any partial blockage of the vessels.. If there is plaque build up in the carotid arteries that is a good indication there may be beginnings of CAD with advancement of soft plague and/or plaque buildup in the coronary arteries. Your medication should control high blood pressure, lower cholesterol, proper diet and exercise, etc. would be the correct protocol, and it seems you are on that regimen.
