Common Questions and Answers about Is pneumonia contagious with a fever

pneumonia

Avatar f tn Pneumonia is not contagious. But it is usually a result of some other kinda bug thats not treated resulting in that it causes fluid on the lungs, which takes a while to turn into pneumonia. If you arnt having symptoms of the original chest cold, or flu your fine.
242516 tn?1368223905 m sure you have a friend who has the sniffles, fever, chills, aches and pains of a viral upper respiratory infection. This is different from a bacterial infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia. A viral infection doesn't improve with antibiotics as these infections do. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread. A bacteria is its own living cell and multiplies and spreads on its own and is easier to destroy in that process.
Avatar f tn Good morning I'm being treated for pneumonia just started antibiotics last nite feeling a lol worse off but my question is walking pneumonia contagious......it's funny but ct images showed fluid on right lung and I have side pain ouchee! But now more symptoms are appearing.
Avatar n tn To determine if pneumonia is still present, direct clinical examination is important together with diagnostic tests. Pneumonia caused by a virus infection usually resolve after couple of days and recovery may also be affected by various factors including the medical history of the patient. If it persists, it is best that you have this checked by your doctor. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn I am not a doctor but I have Googled your question and this is what I found: "Pneumonia in children and adults is caused by bacteria, virus, fungi or protozoa. Out of these, bacteria are the most common microorganisms, that have been found to cause pneumonia. These microorganisms usually enter the body through mouth, nose and eyes, and then infect the lungs, especially the air sacs or alveoli of the lungs. Pneumonia is more commonly found to affect the lower lobes of the lungs.
Avatar f tn Well, usually you would have pain or tightness when you breath in and a fever and chills or sometimes low temperature if your immunity is low. Also, shortness of breath. Did you have any of these symptoms when they found that you had pneumonia on the CT? Obviously if you have a fever see your doctor. Or see him if you feel that it could be pneumonia.
Avatar m tn In some cases, pneumonia may be asymptomatic, but it is still contagious if it results from a bacterial or viral infection.
Avatar f tn he contracted it in the hospital last month with a bout with pneumonia. we went to a rehab for about 3 weeks and was only diagnosed about the last week he was there and was sent home. I went to see him everyday. (he is elderly (93) with Dementia) I understand that c-diff is contagious however i call my self being very careful. i have started having diarriah (very little) no dizzyness, no fever, no chills, no cramps ect.Should i get tested?
Avatar n tn I had pneumonia 7 years ago 6 weeks after having a baby. I was exhausted for weeks. The fact that your fever is gone is good. It takes a while to feel "back to normal" after pneumonia.
Avatar f tn and that the doctor prescribed me for a nother zpac to prevent me from getting pneumonia, but when they left a message with my mom she was told that I had it? I guess another word for microplasma something equals walking pneumonia? well, when I got the call I didn't realize that but I asked the girl who called if I was contagious and she said no. and yesterday was valentiens day and of course I kissed my boyfriend. Avatar m tn A woman was in the hospital with pneumonia a couple of days prior to her giving me oral sex. Am assuming they put her on meds. with her being on meds what is the possibility she was still contagious, which she never told me she had it. For a couple of days My urine flow was frequent, like peeing thru a straw and small white discharge. I have none of those symptoms now but am still concerned.
Avatar m tn Poor thing! I hope he feels better soon. Give the lil guy a hug for me! I bet he is so squeezable! Jesse is getting chunkier and I love it!
Avatar n tn She is very tiny for her age, she only weighs 38 pounds on a good day. She was diagnosed with asthma as a baby. She frequently gets sick and gets pneumonia in the winter time. She started running fever and not feeling well shortly after Christmas. There was a bug going around so I didn't think much of it. I gave her asthma medication to her regularly and she rested a lot over the weekend and seemed to feel better. She continued to run fever each afternoon (anywhere from 99.
Avatar m tn is chest pain then rib pain now finally just back pain n coughing a lung wit tons of flem
1353681 tn?1387083733 ( I do feel mucous now, after a week, but also noticed a couple mins of wheezing with it earlier. It has not come in several hours since then, but someone said wheezing is a symptom of pneumonia. I don't have any other symptoms of pneumonia though, like fever, sweats, or chills. Is it possible an upper respiratory infection can have wheezing sometimes too and it is NOT pneumonia?
Avatar n tn Hello, My most sincere apologies for your question not being addressed. I posted a response on 5/29 that does not appear to have been posted to the site. How is your daughter now? I hope improved. The usual guidance regarding flying after pneumonia is that once a person has been taking antibiotics for 48-72 hours, without a fever for at least 24 hours, and their pulse oximetry is "normal" (this is a measurement of oxygen in the blood), then a person is "okay" for flying.
Avatar m tn when to the hospital one night the next day he was no longer with us then a coworker came down with a mysterious virus he went into the hospital .it was such a sudden thing no one knew where he ended up or what happened to him we never saw him again I don't know his outcome due to the fact he has seemed to vanish.
Avatar f tn Hi i have a ptb history way back 2009. I completed my treatment for 6 months and now working. My previous xray shows both lungs are clear. I had cough for a bout a week and backpains which i normally had since i'm working with computers. I decided to go see a doctor and was requested for a chest pa and apvl. The result shown "Reticular densities seen at the right upper lobe from PTB Minimal, activity is undetermined". The doctor prescribe me medicins to undergo 6 mo treatment again.
Avatar m tn But a confirmed diagnosis of cancer can only be made with a histopathological study, which is the study of the cells, which is done on the biopsy of the lesion. So, after therapy with antibiotics, a repeat X ray may be needed to see for resolution of the lung lesion, if it is due to pneumonia. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn I felt like I was getting the flu.. I woke Sunday with a fever and still very itchy arms... My fever broke later that day and after that I noticed that I had a rash all over my body (tiny little red bumps filled with fluid) and was itching.. Went to ER and that Dr. told me it was a viral infection rash... On Monday I was still itching so bad I went to the clinic and that Dr advised me that I had Chicken Pox....I feel bad... My head hurts...
Avatar n tn I've had a low-grade fever (around 100; my normal temps is 97.5-98.5) for almost three months now. It started while I was living in sub-Saharan Africa. The country where I was living (Burundi) has poor medical care. I was put on two courses of antibiotics and an anti-parasitic medicine, but I did not get better. I was evacuated to Nairobi, where the doctor found giardia (I had no gastrointestinal symptoms).
Avatar n tn t have any cough but for some reason was diagnosed with pneumonia. About 5 days later I developed what a neurologist diagnosed as post infectiousI neuropathy. Tingling in my fingers and toes, burning feelings throughout, etc. I was pretty much tested for everything including - influenza, strep throat, mono, B-12 deficiency, HIV, etc...all NEGATIVE! So, of course I was worried thinking about HIV ars and what not so I got tested again at 13 months via rapid test and it was NEGATIVE as well.
Avatar f tn that they take antibiotics for is due to a primary virus that gave them the secondary infection. So, a cold --- that IS contagious that caused 'gunk' to get thick in sinuses, bronchial tubes or lungs and then that festered into an infection that you need antibiotics to treat. The initial virus is contagious and for how long varies. Usually a week, I'd say.
Avatar f tn My sons and myself often have bloody mucous/nasal discharge when sick with a cold. The green/yellow mucous is indicative of pus being present. That makes the possibility of an infection real such as a sinus infection. Sinus infections are not contagious as they are the secondary infection after a virus (which IS contagious). However, often I have gotten that thick, yellow/green mucous at the end of a cold without infection.
