Common Questions and Answers about Is pneumonia contagious once on antibiotics

pneumonia

Avatar f tn Good morning I'm being treated for pneumonia just started antibiotics last nite feeling a lol worse off but my question is walking pneumonia contagious......it's funny but ct images showed fluid on right lung and I have side pain ouchee! But now more symptoms are appearing.
Avatar f tn to get thick in sinuses, bronchial tubes or lungs and then that festered into an infection that you need antibiotics to treat. The initial virus is contagious and for how long varies. Usually a week, I'd say. Pneumonia can be contagious until about 48 hours into antibiotics (the viral kind that some will have treated with antibiotics any way). So, does that long winded info above answer your question?
242516 tn?1368223905 t hear anything in your lungs, you can be reassured that pneumonia is unlikely. If your doctor is worried that you might have pneumonia, a chest x-ray can look to see if there's an infection, especially for those who have coughed for more than 3 weeks.
Avatar f tn Novembermommy is correct. Pneumonia isn't really contagious, its the cold/virus that can lead to pneumonia which is contagious. Also if he's been on antibiotics for 24hrs he's not considered contagious anymore anyway.
Avatar m tn A woman was in the hospital with pneumonia a couple of days prior to her giving me oral sex. Am assuming they put her on meds. with her being on meds what is the possibility she was still contagious, which she never told me she had it. For a couple of days My urine flow was frequent, like peeing thru a straw and small white discharge. I have none of those symptoms now but am still concerned.
Avatar f tn I wasn't sure where to ask this question because there wasn't a category for walking pneumonia or upper respiratory infection , so here it goes anyway. Ok, so Last week on februrary the 2nd I got a sore throat, the next day I had a runny nose and felt like **** for a few days after that and then I developed a cough, I went to the doctor and he said I had upper respiratory infection (bronchitis)..
Avatar f tn I am not a doctor but I have Googled your question and this is what I found: "Pneumonia in children and adults is caused by bacteria, virus, fungi or protozoa. Out of these, bacteria are the most common microorganisms, that have been found to cause pneumonia. These microorganisms usually enter the body through mouth, nose and eyes, and then infect the lungs, especially the air sacs or alveoli of the lungs. Pneumonia is more commonly found to affect the lower lobes of the lungs.
Avatar f tn Other things like strep throat is contagious. Strep and staph are two contagious bacterias. Hope you feel better.
Avatar n tn I found out that the MRSA is also in her Kidney and that is why her urine is bloody. Should I be worried? If so, why isn't anyone giving me the help I may need? I do not want to infect my son or family if they aren't already infected.....
1609219 tn?1298104935 Very interesting. The two systems ARE linked. WHY you are having recurrent pneumonia is not apparent, but you don't say what kind of MD has you on all the antibiotics...maybe a Pulmonary specialist? You don't say, either, if you have had Bronchoscopy for diagnosis. Also...just a thought, is is possible that something in you home or workplace is the cause of the recurrent infections?? I'd sure look into that.
Avatar f tn The antibiotics you have been prescribed for you Strep throat will usually quickly and effectively treat the problem. There should be no likelihood that you would pass this on to the newborn baby through a throat infection, however take the necessary precautions of hand washing, etc.
Avatar m tn Once our pediatrician examined him she said the hives were from walking pneumonia. He is on the third day of antibiotics but hives are still appearing on his face. They go away within the hour without any treatment. Has anyone heard of this? Shouldn't the antibiotics be helping if the hives are because of the pneumonia or are the hives from something else?
Avatar m tn Hi everyone my name is Dalton. I'm a 13 year old turning 14 on December 2. I live in Plain City, Utah. My problem is I have mucus in my throat and me and my family have been wondering how I can get rid of it.
Avatar m tn Hi, I am a 25y male living in the UK. I don't smoke or drink as of Nov 2016 I was suffering with what I thought was a very bad cold/flu. Several trips the GP with very little success or sympathy it wasn't until I started coughing up blood and having very bad chest pains (This was in Jan 2017) after a chest x-ray I was advised to go to the hospital as they found a 42mm cavity lesion on my upper right lobe.
Avatar m tn Could be allergies, yes once you have had pneumonia you will have scarring ..it wont affect you, check out online for environmental allergies .
Avatar n tn and get put on a round of antibiotics....depending on how serious the pneumonia is, she may have to go on IV antibiotics, but that would be the doctors call, hopefully shes not that far off. But yeah when a diabetic gets sick, it almost always throws there blood sugar around and it makes it hard to stick to your original carb/insulin ratio....hope I have helped...good luck!
Avatar f tn all this went away for about a month. now it is back. im worried the mrsa is active again. does she need more antibiotics. i know mrsa is resistant to most antibiotics, but shouldnt you try them to see if they will work?
Avatar m tn I've went to the doctor last Sunday (July 31st) and have been taking antibiotics (Clindamycin) for the past 10 days (still taking them) and I just got my recheck today (August 9th). I feel way much better. No pain, no fevers, etc. The abscess is really small, like dots. I asked if it was contagious when I was there and the person I asked told me "as long as you're getting better, it shouldn't be contagious".
1472764 tn?1287588186 When I had pneumonia with my daughter, I was on antibiotics to clear it up and everything was fine. I was just put on amoxicillin for a dental infection. Both amoxicillin and the medication in your z-pack (I'm assuming that is what you are taking?) are both Pregnancy Category B and considered safe during pregnancy. I even specifically asked my Pharmacist and she assured me it is safe.
1618318 tn?1318196283 Noramlly aspiration pnuemonia would cause a bacterial pnuemonia. Because you actually inhale food particles or liquid. In other words your food is going down the wrong "pipe". Antibiotics should take care of any infection, you should also try some learning effective coughing skills also. This will aide in getting the particles back out of the airway. You can have blood drawn to see whether it is a virus or bacteria, but it is most likely bacterial pnuemonia.
1901977 tn?1333991726 I was trying to tough it out but my upper respiratory infection has moved down into my chest and with my asthma, the doctor is really worried about it turning into pneumonia and just put me on the "Z-Pack" (Azithromycin)antibiotics. I'm in my 12th week right now, and really worried about taking them. But the doctor says if my breathing goes bad or I get pneumonia that's much worse for the baby...so I just took my first dose tonight.
Avatar m tn I get a sore throat (not tonsils but when you swallow) I now go straight on antibiotics and use Bricanyl inhaler although it doesnt seem to have much effect except to cause alot of mucus coughed up from the lungs. It causes me to have spasm coughing and if I cannot control this to 3 or 4 coughs my windpipe closes over making it hard to breath in or out. The last one about 2 years ago stopped me breathing in and out completely for 10 to 15 seconds and I thought I had bought it.
Avatar f tn yes being always cold is the real indication to have a chronic infection. Yes it is passed from person to person as it is contagious. The pneumonia I have is NOT through a tick bite. Mycoplasma can be transmitted by insects but also not necessarily.
Avatar n tn That being said, though, and assuming this is viral in nature, once you have pneumonia you have progressed significantly through the viral process already and the more important thing is clearing the lungs. There are many herbs that can help with this, too, most of which are mullein based, including pleurisy root, lungwort, and many others. But since puemonia is a very serious condition, I would only do this in consultation with your physician and a naturopath.
Avatar f tn hi..i have a ulser on my left tonsil..and i feel lke something is stuck in my throat(esophagis).is it because of the ulcer..or any gastric problem?
