Avatar f tn For example, the bacteria that causes pneumonia called streptococcus pneumonia is a normal bacteria residing in all our throats. Since we all don't get pneumonia from it, the determining factor is not the virulence of the bacteria. The bacteria multiplies without restraint only when our immune systems become compromised.
Avatar m tn Well pneumonia is not an STD. You don't get it that way. Maybe you are worried about a urinary tract infection? Generally, Strep. pneumoniae it the " classic" type of bacteria for pneumonia but there are other bacteria that can cause pneumonia. So if you have frequent urination that is hard to go and and especially if it burns when you go that could be a sign of a urinary tract infection. If it is gone then I wouldn't worry about it.
Avatar n tn Is it possible that she is already infected as early as now? If so, is she infectious, even if she isn't coughing or sneezing yet? I read in CDC that most cases are transmitted through coughing and sneezing in close contact, so if she's infected already but still not coughing or sneezing, would she be contagious already? Thank you so much in advance.

Avatar m tn In some cases, pneumonia may be asymptomatic, but it is still contagious if it results from a bacterial or viral infection.
Avatar f tn I am not a doctor but I have Googled your question and this is what I found: "Pneumonia in children and adults is caused by bacteria, virus, fungi or protozoa. Out of these, bacteria are the most common microorganisms, that have been found to cause pneumonia. These microorganisms usually enter the body through mouth, nose and eyes, and then infect the lungs, especially the air sacs or alveoli of the lungs. Pneumonia is more commonly found to affect the lower lobes of the lungs.
Avatar f tn that they take antibiotics for is due to a primary virus that gave them the secondary infection. So, a cold --- that IS contagious that caused 'gunk' to get thick in sinuses, bronchial tubes or lungs and then that festered into an infection that you need antibiotics to treat. The initial virus is contagious and for how long varies. Usually a week, I'd say.
Avatar n tn The use of prednisone while you have an infection is controversial. I know they use it. The problem is that the prednisone sometimes makes the infections go out of control. Make sure you take vitamin D3. Use an expectorant and observe the color of the sputem. As long as it is yellowish you have an infection. Make a daily log of the color. Many physicians never ask to see the sputem. I have an issue with that. Be carefull with use of blood pressure medications.
Avatar f tn I'm sick but I don't know if Its something serious.iv been drinking tea and taking cough drops My mom has pneumonia But I don't know if I have it too or if I just have a cold. Is it safe to be sick while pregnant.
710085 tn?1238023364 I had bilateral pneumonia in late July, so bad I was in ICU. Healed completely, no scars by August 15. By September 14, I had bilateral pneumonia again, was admitted, and sent home two days later. Ten days after that, I was flown to a level 1 hospital to be put on a respirator (ventilator?). An open lung biopsy was done to see what the cause was. May Clinic thought it might be BOOP. A few rare cases have been linked to Neurontin, which the octor in July put me on for neck pain from a bad fall.
Avatar m tn The rapid decline in exercise capacity that you have experienced in a very short period of time truly is extraordinary. The most important issue at this time is to find the cause of the shortness of breath. Levofloxacin has been associated with a wide range of adverse events, many of which are musculoskeletal and so I would not be surprised if the suggestion that your multi-site musculoskeletal symptoms were the result of reactivation of a rheumatoid process.
Avatar n tn Thanks, yllas. what did your doctor say - is it curable? is it contagious? I don't recall having pneumonia or whooping cough before. my brother had bronchopneumonia when he was 3 years. but he seems to be in perfect health, in fact his xray result last year was clear. I really worried that his might affect my pre employment. I already signed my probationary contract but unfavorable medical results may be grounds for them to revoke my contract.
Avatar f tn My doctor said it was not contagious but I called my daughters pediatrician nurse and she said its possible. I also found it was on Mayo Clinic. I'm scared of starting my treatment and becoming reinfected. Can someone please give me advice????!!!
Avatar n tn I understand that this is considered an STD, but can also be gotten through other means (sharing towels etc,)...just how contagious is this? Should he be washing his clothes in the family washing machine? I have tried to get him to take vitamins, eat properly etc. during the summer. But i think he thinks i'm over reacting... His family practice doc. told him not worry about them, that they would go away...i sent him to a dermatologist.
Avatar m tn What does your doctor say? Have you had an upper endoscopy lately? Are you cirrhotic? Much more info is needed for anyone to comment on your post.
Avatar n tn I found out that the MRSA is also in her Kidney and that is why her urine is bloody. Should I be worried? If so, why isn't anyone giving me the help I may need? I do not want to infect my son or family if they aren't already infected.....
Avatar m tn I was wondering just how contagious hep c is? I do not know if I am just freaking myself out or not , but I work with someone who has gotten tattoos while in jail, which doesn't seem too safe to me, and in the case that he does have hep c, I was wondering how much at risk I would be of getting it?
Avatar f tn Other things like strep throat is contagious. Strep and staph are two contagious bacterias. Hope you feel better.
Avatar f tn yes being always cold is the real indication to have a chronic infection. Yes it is passed from person to person as it is contagious. The pneumonia I have is NOT through a tick bite. Mycoplasma can be transmitted by insects but also not necessarily.
242516 tn?1368223905 t hear anything in your lungs, you can be reassured that pneumonia is unlikely. If your doctor is worried that you might have pneumonia, a chest x-ray can look to see if there's an infection, especially for those who have coughed for more than 3 weeks.
Avatar n tn Hello, My most sincere apologies for your question not being addressed. I posted a response on 5/29 that does not appear to have been posted to the site. How is your daughter now? I hope improved. The usual guidance regarding flying after pneumonia is that once a person has been taking antibiotics for 48-72 hours, without a fever for at least 24 hours, and their pulse oximetry is "normal" (this is a measurement of oxygen in the blood), then a person is "okay" for flying.
Avatar f tn The concern would be that since you began coughing, is it become active. This is likely why they prescribed treatment for it. Here is some information for readers on pulmonary tuberculosis. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/tuberculosis/symptoms-causes/syc-20351250 The densities sound to be consistent with what is found when there is infection such as TB or pneumonia. When do you next see your doctor?
