Avatar f tn re already eating mostly gluten free unless all you eat is bread and pasta. And pasta is readily available made out of gluten-free grains, unlike bread, which is quite different gluten-free. In other words, using brown rice is still using brown rice. Spices still taste the same. You're just switching grains, not everything.
Avatar f tn s is a brand of gluten free baked goods you may find pretty good. Canyon Bake House makes a terrific gluten free rosemary focaccia bread that is actually soft and not crumbly.
Avatar f tn many people have tried going gluten free in hopes that it will help with thyroid. There is little evidence that it helps with thyroid specifically. However many people report feeling better in general. So regardless of whether or not it helped specifically with thyroid, if they felt better then it was worth it. From what I've been reading, it takes at LEAST 6 months of gluten free as a minimum before you may start to see the benefits if any.
Avatar f tn Luckily many grocery stores around me carry gluten free foods and there is a strict gluten free/dairy free/vegan bakery close by if I get a sweet tooth.
Avatar m tn **Just thought I would give an update: JAN 15 2019 (6 months post contraction)** -I finished the Minocycline (1 Month Course) and 18 days post ABX discharge and frequent urge to urinate came back, for anyone curious of the details its really only present in the morning and it's a PUS like yellowish discharge that can be produced when milking the shaft. - I sent another specimen off to mylabbox for testing on day 16 post ABX and it came back positive still.
Avatar f tn Is it possible/ recommended to do a gluten free diet crossed with a calorie controlled diet? I was thinking of cutting carbs also but if I have to have them they have to be gluten free? Is that recommended ? Or is there any other way to do it?
1202943 tn?1347840652 For recipe ideas, google Gluten Free Club. The lady has already tried and failed at various recipes before posting recipes that work. You can also just google Gluten Free Recipes. There are insane numbers of resources available now. You do need to understand about binders such as xanthan gum and guar gum that need to be used to make gluten free bread and pastry items work. I wasn't able to use the quinoa pasta, though, because I am also very intolerant to corn.
Avatar n tn I'm curious as to whether or not the casein and gluten-free diet is one that needs to be adhered to for the entirety of a person's life who has autism and has found it to help? What happens if my son's autism improves because of this diet but he goes back to consuming casein and gluten some day? Will his autistic symptoms reappear or have they been cured?
Male My doctor has told me I need to move to a gluten-free diet....yikes!!! All my life (and that is a very long time--ha ha) I have generally eaten whatever I wanted to eat. This change to a GF diet seems like such a huge mountain to climb. I know there are many others who have had to change to a GF diet after a lifetime of eating what they wanted with little or no restrictions. How does a person even get started on a change like this? What do you do when you go out to eat at a restaurant?

1202943 tn?1347840652 I decided I wanted to feel better and was willing to try a gluten free diet. I have never been tested for CD, but I noticed I felt better being gluten free. Every time I cheat I don't feel so good. I don't have many of the digestive issues, but I feel sluggish, achy, have more allergies, and bloated. It's amazing all the info I've found online. I've even read that some people think gluten can trigger Graves'.
780647 tn?1304020942 Find alternatives to your normal gluten foods. For example buy gluten free cereals, pasta, and bread (some of these are only found at certain stores). Also read every single label of everything you eat (things you wouldn't expect like soy sauce are not gluten free). Also don't eat out at any restaurants while you are trying the gluten free diet. Let me know if you have any other questions.
290018 tn?1240365868 It is good to get tested, but one of the most decisive methods I have found is to actually go gluten free. For me, going gluten free provided dramatic results. I wanted to get tested anyways so I did the genetic test and the antibodies test. I have the gene that 90% of Celiacs have, but the antibodies test was not supportive of Celiacs (however they only ran two of the antibodies, and I had been gluten free for a period before the test).
Avatar f tn Before changing any child's diet, you really need to consult their pediatrician. This diet thing would probably work for kids who have allergies to wheat and milk. So, get your child allergy tested. I have read that this diet works for some autistic kids, but they have allergies to this stuff. If your child doesn't have allergies to this stuff, you are removing important nutrition from his diet!!! That's what our pediatrician told us.
268911 tn?1213744781 s see, tonight I ate a salad, potatoes ( no gravy because that contains flour ) green beans, lima beans and ground beef, all gluten free. the only soy and terriaki sauce that is gluten free is the La Choy brand which taste the exact same, but you really have to watch what you get if you go to a Asian cuisine place because they usually don't use la Choy. Mexicans figured it out I think because they usually eat corn tortillas and enchiladas! Just my opinion!
Avatar f tn So, for now the best people like me can do is stay far away from gluten. And, actually, the video is saying to stay away from all grain to be truly gluten free. Rice is the safest of all grains, but it does still contain a small portion of the gluten specific to rice. All grains have gluten. The name of the gluten in wheat is gliadin, which of course is the main source of the problem for people, since wheat is so pervasive and in things you don't expect it to be.
1337734 tn?1336234591 I agree that a healthy diet is good for everyone, MS afflicted or not. I do not think that gluten avoidance is beneficial, nor do I think it is wise to shun whole food groups. Dr. Terry Wahls clains to have put her MS to sleep using diet. The keys to her specific diet are typically available for sale on her web site. THis always makes me leary. Our bodies are at war, albeit with themselves. The stronger we can make our bodies, the more able they will be to fight the fight.
Avatar f tn By contrast, IgG anti-gliadin antibodies need a long time, sometimes more than a year, to become negative. The reverse is also true. That is, a patient with celiac disease who has been on a gluten free diet and tests negative for IgA anti-gliadin antibodies, will show a rapid increase in antibody production when challenged by gluten in the diet. Approximately 90% of challenged patients will yield a positive IgA anti-gliadin result within 14-35 days after being challenged.
551343 tn?1506830518 dear mrs. a & sarah, you can't imagine how much of a bread, pasta, and cheese head i have been all of my life--i pretty much spent my 20s eating cheddar cheese and baguettes. but i am adhering as much to this MS recovery/best bet diet as i can as of the last month. it is hard and i feel deprived a lot of the time, but i think it helps me feel better.
Avatar f tn Celiac disease is a chronic digestive disorder that is caused by a hereditary intolerance to gluten. Gluten is a component of wheat, rye, oats, barley, and related grains hybrids like kamut, etc. When you consume gluten, it causes damage to the small intestine. It is believed that the body responds to gluten as if it was an antigen, and launches an immune system attack on your body. It causes your sm intestine to swell, which impairs your body to be able to absorb vital nutrients.
Avatar f tn Once you have been gluten free (or free of any other food group) for a while, you have made yourself gluten intolerant. If you binge or return permanently to eating gluten you are going to feel some symptoms at first. It's like drinking (alcohol). If you stop for a while, one little glass of wine will send you for a loop. You have to re-introduce gluten slowly. My best advice to anyone new to Hashi's is to read Michael Pollen's books.
Avatar n tn Discuss it with your doc. Probably it is time to stop the minocycline; I doubt any antibiotic is going to make a difference. Perhaps most important, none of these problems -- chronic prostatitis, recurrent/persistent NGU, CPPS -- causes serious health outcomes for either affected men or their sex partners. All are an issue of comfort and inconvenient symptoms, not important health difficulties. I hope this helps.
