Avatar f tn Do you have an anxiety disorder as well? Or is it just depression? Curious because that is a horrible idea to put someone with Anxiety on a stimulant.
Avatar n tn Does anyone else think ritalin is the devil? I was taking 120mg / day and it did nothing but make me sleep. I couldn't function on the stuff. Missed work and everything else. Anyone else had this kind of effect from taking ritalin / methylin / methylphenidate?
Avatar f tn I do have the feeling that you are still a bit unsure as to why you are taking the ritalin and its possible effects on you. That is something that you really need to have your doctor explain to you. By the way, he does need to know what you just said. Its possible that the afternoon dose is to high, or that a extended release version would be softer and better for you. Anyway, keep in touch. I am cheering for you!
751197 tn?1270314156 I was diagnosed a week ago with hypothyroidism and have only been on the Armour Thyroid since this past Wednesday, so I'm new to this. For the last couple of days, I've been taking it sublingually rather than swallowing. I just read an article entitled "Should You Take Your Thyroid Hormone With Food vs. An Empty Stomach?" by Mary Shomon (Google to find it, since external links are apparently prohibited here).
599170 tn?1300973893 The answer is no. No two meds affect anyone the same. They have potentially different side effects, are metabolized by different pathways in your liver, attach to receptors differently, and each individual just reacts differently. Which is to say, if you think you don't need the med and you're on four meds and want to see if you don't need this one, that's great.
294425 tn?1288528395 Thank you for weighing in on this one! The bugs crawling is always in the same place, no matter when I get it. Just from my shoulders to my waist, only on my back, mostly toward the center. I've heard of the amantadine, but isn't it usually less effective than the Provigil? I thought that was the one they usually try first, but God knows I could be wrong.....:) I have a friend who started on that and then they added the Provigil and now she takes both and it works well for her.
Avatar n tn t really been a lot of studies done, but it is usually only safe if the risk is greater without it rather than with it, kinda the same with anti depressants I guess. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Try Fish oil and Vit B Complex with antioxidants and Vit C known to have the same efficacy as Ritalin. There are a lot of Natural ways to help your children out there.
Avatar f tn CibaGeneva Pharmaceuticals (also known as Ciba-Geigy Corporation), a division of Novartis, is the manufacturer of Ritalin. It is trying to expand the Ritalin market to Europe and the rest of the world. Ritalin "works" by producing malfunctions in the brain rather than by improving brain function. This is the only way it works.
Avatar n tn There is a massive tendency to diagnose any child who is hyperactive or moody as ADHD - the reality is most kids at 3 are those things. The symptoms you have just given are not neccesarrily illness based - you ssid you adopted him. What is his history? Is he the oldest or youngest or middle? If he is suffering anxiety issues and seperation (and he is not able to articulate at this age) that could easily account for the moods and the sleep problems.
Avatar f tn Also, oxy is more soluble and I believe it is a first pass metabolite, meaning it crosses the blood brain barrier after one pass thru the liver, where hydro is metabolized twice by the liver before becoming active. Oxy is much more powerfull than hydro per milligram and has a meaner withdrawel too.
1569985 tn?1328247482 I have taken Phythmol for yrs and all I can say Is I didn't have to start it in a hospital and it is in the same class as Flecainide but i really don't think it is as strong a drug. It helped me stay out of arrhythmia but like all the rest, it eventually becomes pro-arrhythmic and will actually bring on episodes....it may be months...it may be years...but it will happen.
14631020 tn?1436545476 My understanding is the same as Ess. These types of medications don't play the long game. They are quick and dirty, to get the job done. They can be titrated if need be, but you should get a sense of the effect fairly immediately. They can, however, build a tolerance. For this reason, I've personally opted for the less effective and less addictive modafinil. Do I yearn for something more along the lines of adderall or ritilin some days? Heck yea.
Avatar f tn For an exact answer, that really is something you need to ask your Doctor. I googled both. Looked at their ingredients, read posts comparing the two, and came away thinking that basically they are the same. If anything ritalin might be slightly safer. Remember these medications have been used by millions and millions of people so their track record and how they act is well known. It's just they everybody reacts a bit differently and has different needs.
Avatar f tn It is also called Sensory Processing Disorder and if you google that a web site by the same name will come it------- it is a good resource. What you do for sensory is physical activity. As this is soothing to the nervous system as a whole, it is beneficial to consider for a child you think has add or is just rambunctious. I'll briefly list some of the more helpful activities to calm the nervous system----- climbing---- go to the park and climb the play structures.
Avatar n tn The last time I had wanted adderrall all I could get my hands on was Ritalin, which is from what I was told was pretty much the same as adderrall, as well as similar dosages. When I took the 40mg ritalin I concluded that it was pretty much equivalent to a 30mg adderrall. So anyway back to that night! I decided I was going to need help staying up for that long, I took two of the 40mg Ritalin. These alone would have probably been fine, but I made a foolish mistake afterward.
Avatar f tn Because I had some Ritalin left, I tried it at the same time as the Vyvanse. It worked perfectly. The problem is that the DEA are quite strict, and they don't think that is cool, apparently. Some doctors, however, are fine with writing prescriptions for two ADHD drugs; I just have to find out who they are.
Avatar n tn You may find that Florinef or Midodrine do more to alleviate your symptoms. That being said, I take Ritalin every four hours. As for the effects wearing off throughout the course of treatment, I've been told that taking a two week break every year can sort of "reset" your system. I've yet to do that myself, but may sometime in the near future. As for implantable devices, the usefulness of a pacemaker in Dysautonomia is an ongoing debate amount specialists.
1497278 tn?1289708073 I have seen numerous adult posters who use it on an as needed basis. One advantage of ritalin is that it is out of the system fairly quickly and is also fast acting so it can be used this way. The other thought is that there are some newer meds out now that are longer acting and I believe less mild. And of course, there are also the non- stimulant meds. As I think that you are finding out - you just have to experiment a bit to find out what works for you.
Avatar n tn after 3 years youre absloutley dependant and have developed a tolerance is why the same dose isnt working anymore. Are you trying to quit?
Avatar m tn I realize that fatigue is but one symptom of depression, as it is for MS and I am treated for dep.. I have heard/read that Prozac can be effective in treatiing the fatigue associated with MS. Before I meet with my neuro, next week, I really would like to know what peoples experiences have been with treatments for fatigue.
