Avatar n tn Does anyone else think ritalin is the devil? I was taking 120mg / day and it did nothing but make me sleep. I couldn't function on the stuff. Missed work and everything else. Anyone else had this kind of effect from taking ritalin / methylin / methylphenidate?
Avatar n tn Ok i have,a problem with my sister she is preggo n taking ritalin for her adhd the doctor told her it was safe but for me i dnt think it is i told her get a second opinion n she takes 4 a day? Need advice thanks!
Avatar f tn CibaGeneva Pharmaceuticals (also known as Ciba-Geigy Corporation), a division of Novartis, is the manufacturer of Ritalin. It is trying to expand the Ritalin market to Europe and the rest of the world. Ritalin "works" by producing malfunctions in the brain rather than by improving brain function. This is the only way it works.
1497278 tn?1289708073 I have seen numerous adult posters who use it on an as needed basis. One advantage of ritalin is that it is out of the system fairly quickly and is also fast acting so it can be used this way. The other thought is that there are some newer meds out now that are longer acting and I believe less mild. And of course, there are also the non- stimulant meds. As I think that you are finding out - you just have to experiment a bit to find out what works for you.
14631020 tn?1436545476 I was put on ritalin 10mg x 3 a day. It is the fast acting and works fairly well. I can still sleep on it though because I can feel it's effects stop at the three hour mark. The is a long actinng version my docc mentioned maybe try that?
Avatar m tn I have MS and this is why I am asking about Ritalin instead of the 600 mg of provigil i take every Morning
Avatar n tn ritalin is running my life its all i think about feel like i cant get enough, been on it for 3 yrs, just recently loss control sometimes takeing 200+ mg a day its going to kill me and im desperate to stop, anyone familiar with this monster
Avatar f tn t think this is normal, even if I am on Ritalin. is it possible that this is linked to anxiety or depression (which are chronic issues)?
Avatar f tn There definately is a difference between Ritalin and Adderall. Adderall is stronger. For instance, if a person is on 30mg of Adderall and wants to switch to Ritalin,..you will need aprox. 50 to 60mg of Ritalin to be equivelant to the 30mg of Adderall. I am on 60mg of Adderall daily. I wanted to try Ritalin again just for the heck of it. I have shown proof from reliable sources, to my Doc that he needs to give me MORE than 60mg Ritalin for it to be effective as 60mg Adderrall.
Avatar f tn What I am wondering, is there a link between the Ritalin I was forced to take during childhood and the seizures I later experienced as an adult? And if so, are there other potential conditions I need to be aware of and to inform my health care providers about?
Avatar m tn One of the side effects of Ritalin is paresthesia, probably because of circulation problems to the extremities. This made me think that Ritalin also reduced blood flow to other parts of the body, possible the brain. This idea alarmed me, and made me search PubMed frantically. Here are a few studies I found: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1992832 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar n tn My son who is 9 yrs old has started Vyvanse since January of this year. He is currently on about 25 mg of Vyvanse. The only thing that I don't like about it is that it takes a long time to kick in, like about 2.5 hours for my son. So often in the morning he will seem unfocused so will not do well during early 8am test. His doctor and I discussed trying Ritalin first in the morning and then adding Vyvanse, which is the reverse of what many people do.
Avatar n tn Hello. These two conditions are not noticed with Ritalin. You may have had them coincidentally. Adult ADD is associated with a lot of other psychological problems. To avoid them, you should try and take Ritalin regularly. Can you mention if you had AD/HD symptoms in the childhood?
Avatar n tn My name is Justin and I'm 20 years old. For my entire conscious life I could drink an infinite amount of coffee or energy drinks with out feeling anything more than a slight buzz. Nothing uncomfortable about it, ever. I would literally joke about it stating how I could drink a gallon of coffee or multiple large size red bulls and easily go to sleep right after. Now to my problem...
Avatar f tn My 11 year old son has the following symtoms after a streptosyme infection found in his blood in Nov 2008, and after taking methylin for 5 days in Dec 2008. Could this be related to dystonia and why? 1. frequent blinking 2. painful finger cramping 3. stress induced twitches in left side extremities 4. involuntary movements/jerks in left side extremities 5. muscle stiffness and jerks in left arm, hand, fingers, leg, foot, and toes when trying to relax 6.
Avatar n tn Children can and do develop mental illnesses but in a world where Ritalin is so over prescribed its now become a street drug the diagnosis of ADHD has become a knee jerk reaction to any child who is not perfect - I know of one case in Australia where a GP diagnosed ADHD in a teenager and in his rush to prescribe completely missed his paranoid schizoprhenia which was only picked up when he stabbed a class mate because the voices told him to do it.
Avatar m tn Just a bit of personal experience to add to this discussion...I take methylin(a time release form of ritalin) for ADHD regularly. However, during a severe episode of MS-like sx lasting 2 1/2 months this winter, I couldn't tolerate taking the stimulant since it suddenly caused lots of side effects like trembling, tremor, racing heartbeat, increased hyperreflexia, etc.
Avatar f tn i stll worry of siezure on wellbutrin sr and my other meds,,,cant tell the ritalin is helping eithr and i drank 3 beers last night
636964 tn?1222990085 I agree with margypops to try supplements. Ritalin is not something I would ever suggest for anyone to try even if it definitely is ADD/ADHD!
Avatar f tn Maybe the drop in BP is related to the switch from Adderall to Ritalin. Adderall is known to increases blood pressure by a lot so stopping it will of course drop your BP. I would continue to monitor your BP and see. If the blood pressure keeps getting lower then I would report back to your doctor but I'm pretty sure it is due to no more Adderall and new Ritalin.
Avatar m tn Ritalin can cause temporary movement disorders such as akathesia (which can be treated with a side effect pill). However on occassion it can also cause some long term movement disorders which include at times tardive dyskinesia (and a variant of it called tardive tourretism) for more information google "Patient Education Tardive Dyskinesia" (as the site itself says "some of these medications may be medically neccessary").
2083581 tn?1332307861 I have heard wellbutrin works well with Ritalin but I would like to here from someone with experience. Ritalin is the only drug that has ever helped me but when it wears off I am depressed again. (and I have tried Concerta and did like it) Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn Ritalin is a stimulant and if he is abusing it, that can cause so many problems. Not sure why he was put on it either with a history of drug use and now drinking too. Bad bad combo, with ritalin and alcohol. What did he say when you told him you can't be with him if he keeps drinking and abusing the ritalin? I am sorry your going through this right now, but it sounds like you need to take care of yourself first. Does he show any signs of wanting to quit?
