Is lexapro for depression

Common Questions and Answers about Is lexapro for depression

lexapro

Avatar f tn I have been on lexapro for about 5 months.I take it for anxiety. I have really loved the results! I have had a couple moments when I have got really ditzy and confused. That kinda freaks me out! It is definetely from the medication just simply because I know myself. I'm wondering if it can cause brain damage or if there are any long term effects in the brain?
Avatar n tn Lexapro and Celexa are not interchangeable, and they are not approved for all of the same uses. Both are approved for the treatment of depression. However, only Lexapro is approved to treat anxiety. Regarding the effectiveness of the two medicines, some studies have suggested that Lexapro may be more effective than Celexa for depression treatment, while others have not found significant differences between these two medications. And what works well for one may not work as well for another.
Avatar f tn also to add to my last comment, lexapro is a non addictive but long term drug for the treatment of depression and anxiety and it takes about 4-6 weeks for full effects to be noticed. depending on your condition i would start off on 10mg a day and see how that works for you. if your not to sure then do some research about it. and also research the dangers of xanax.
Avatar f tn While what you describe is not a very commohnly reported side effect of Risperidal, anything is possible. How long have you been on the Lexapro? Lexapro can sometimes cause headaches as an initial start up side effect. The headaches will usually subside within about 2 weeks of starting the Lexapro. If you've had this symptom for 7 months, I'm not sure it could be either of the meds. My advice would be to let your doctor know how you're feeling.
Avatar f tn does anyone know the best meds for my problem?do they have any new meds for depression other than lexapro ? and if so do they work? .....this depression is not going away on its on.....my mom told me it was just all in my head.....not!!!!!!!!......any advice would be greatly appreciated.....love u guys and god bless us all.........
398302 tn?1202271127 I am 29 days clean and REALLY struggled with the depression and still am a bit, however I truly feel like the meds my dr put me on right away have helped. Is cymbalta the right drug for you? Time will tell but no I don't think you were too quick in asking your doc for an anti-depressant. And really you're not subbing one drug for another in my opinion...it's not like you're substituting alcohol for oxys. Congrats on 11 days clean...that's great!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar m tn I just want to make sure that this is indeed just a withdrawal reaction to the Lexapro itself and that the Xanax is not causing my depression since there is no SSRI to counter-act it. I guess time will tell. Thanks.
Avatar f tn My dr. gave samples of Lexapro 10mg to try out for anxiety/possible depression. I took my first dose this morning before work and discovered it's not a day time med, I became very tired, groggy and sleepy. I am currently taking ambien 10mg every night for sleep. should I take another lexapro tonight? I can't take it before work? It is safe to take them both at the same time? Or start over tomorrow night? Im new to the anxity/depression meds............
Avatar m tn I took Lexapro for several years with excellent results for depression and anxiety. It takes 4-6 weeks for medications like Lexapro to reach a therapeutic level in your system. Xanax is a fast acting anxiety medication which you take on an as needed basis. They work in different ways. Be patient, you will know when it kicks in. Take care.
Avatar f tn I also took lexapro for approximately 2 years, then it stopped working. Went on prozac, then it stopped working. Now I'm back on lexapro, about 3 weeks now, the depression is lifting. I feel strange whenever I switch meds, but sometimes they lose their punch after a lot of time goes by. You will feel better soon. And you have the right attitude, the meds don't do it all for us. We have to participate in managing our symptoms. You're on the right track...GL...
Avatar m tn basically I have been suffering from depression and anxiety for several years and it has been only recently I have decided to get help. My Dr. wrote me a prescription for Lexapro with 2 refills, one a day for 3 months. I took it for 2 months with not a single noticable change in my mood and decided not to refill the 3rd month.
Avatar f tn t approved by the FDA for depression treatment, but some studies do show it can help some (and as with any other drug affecting brain neurotransmitters, some are made worse and more anxious, but that can happen with Lexapro as well). Once a drug is approved, docs are allowed to use it for unapproved purposes. It's main effect is on GABA, the same neurotransmitter targeted by your Xanax, which is a target of most drugs for epilepsy. Topamax is an epilepsy and migraine headache drug.
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed Lexapro to help with the depression / anxiety cause by the metoprolol beta blocker. Has anyone else taken Lexapro for drug induced depression and has it helped ? The beta blocker has caused severe depression and anxiety. I need something to help me to get out of this hole and depression that I"m in. Can anyone let me know if you've luck with Lexapro helping with drug induced depression. Its the lesser of two evils. I need the beta blocker for my tachycardia....
Avatar m tn Lexapro, the brand name for escitalopram, is a widely prescribed medication known for its effectiveness in managing mood disorders. This antidepressant, belonging to the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) class, offers several benefits to those struggling with conditions like major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. https://buylexaproonlinepharmacy.weebly.
Avatar m tn is celexa just for depression?? or does it also help with anxiety's?? is this one on the bottom of the list?? like zoloft,paxil,lexapro,prozac..this is in the same category as these others....please explain this??
Avatar f tn I am feeling heaps sucidal cause i have missed a dose of my lexapro?
358304 tn?1409709492 I took lexapro last year for anxiety... now I'm having anxiety/depression pretty bad... going to go see the Dr. tomorrow. Hoping he will put me on something... don't want to feel like this anymore... Think there is hope in medicine these days? My buddy Jeff told me, there is no reason why anyone should feel the way I feel this day in age.. with all the medicines they have out there.. Of course, I kind of want to refuse medicine... but I have to be logic.
Avatar m tn My psychiatrist is aware of it and says if it continues at the end of this month(october) He may make an adjustment to my medication. Maybe he will add a med just for depression ie-wellbutrin i dont know(hes mentioned something to that effect before). Its not like I wake up and feel hopeless I've been there before this isnt that......
Avatar f tn I saw my doc today and asked him about when I can stop my meds as my last shot is Feb 7 and he suggested that I take my Lexapro and Ambien for one month after finishing tx to make sure the tx drugs get out of my system and then I can stop. He said they are not addicting/habit forming and can just be stopped. I agree with Susie's last paragraph. Finding worth and value in life, situations, and people takes some work on our part.
Avatar f tn I was on Lexapro for six months and then came off. My panic attacks returned so I returned to the Lexapro for a year and then came off again. My reasons for coming off were my own not wanting to be on a permanent drug that I may not need anymore. I am very sensitive to medicine. Usually the lowest effect dose offered is 10mg. I would cut it in half for 5 and that was all I needed. Within a few hours of missing a dose I would begin to have side effects, so these were my reasons for stopping it.
Avatar m tn And with most people on lexapro the doctor played with the mgs to see if it worked. I have been on every med out there for anxiety and depression and by far...... lexapro worked the best after getting my mgs right, but i have to admit it was rough in the begining. I would think the zoloft should kick in in 2 weeks or so.
Avatar f tn Are you under a lot of stress? Lexapro isn't going to take that away unfortunately. And for me, stress often is that heaviness in the head, neck ache, tension. Perhaps also you are not on the right dose of Lexapro. With those meds, finding just the right one and dose can be a bit of trial and error. I also get this kind of head pressure when I'm tired. How's your sleep? Are you getting enough? People your age often need more than they are getting.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the time you put into that post. I appreciate it. You almost perfectly described me (I took out the part that didn't) ---> "When you suffer from Major depression, YOU WILL KNOW IT. Your head will swirl like a mad tempest, You will feel doom, fear, and dread so intense that it literally feels like your going insane. Now those are the symptoms that these medications are designed for, not for short or moderate bouts of the blues and stress.
Avatar n tn It is available from some drug stores for as little as $10 for a 90-day supply. If Lexapro worked for you then I think citalopram is a logical choice. It was for me, at any rate.
