Is levoxyl the same as synthroid

Common Questions and Answers about Is levoxyl the same as synthroid

synthroid

7991152 tn?1396061810 Synthroid is a brand name. The formulation has been changed several times over the years. The FDA site has information on the history of this product.
Avatar m tn Levothyroxin is not listed in the pharmacuidical referrences I have looked at, except for a German one. Levothyroxine is listed as the generic form of Synthroid, Levoxyl, etc. The missing e on the end may be a typo or may be how a particular manufacturer markets their generic Levothyroxine.
Avatar f tn I was taking a pill that was not round and believe it worked better, levoxyl (sp?) Are these the same or is one preferred over the other? I have such exhaustion it becomes difficult to do anything.
Avatar f tn That made me wonder if you could be having a reaction to the binders/fillers in the Synthroid. T4 meds vary quite a bit as far as the fillers/binders used to make the pills. Some patients have reactions to some and not others. The only T4 med that is free of binders/fillers is one called Tirosint, which is a liquid in a gelcap. So, you could talk to your doctor about switching to another T4 med and see what effect that has for you.
7074596 tn?1387754708 Yes, Levoxyl is the same as Levothyroxine which is the generic name . Synthroid is the Brand name for Levothyroxine. So it is the same drug.
Avatar f tn My take on it was this. The main properties might have to be the same gun as the real stuff, but the fillers is what boosts the drug. Those fillers do not have to be the same and that filler(s) influences how the drug works and who can take that form of the medication. Hope this helps.....
Avatar n tn Since generics use the same active ingredients and are shown to work the same way in the body as their brand-name counterparts, they also have the same risks and benefits.
1139187 tn?1355706647 I have to also ask: The first thing you have to eliminate is wether or not you are a "normal" T4 to T3 converter?? If you are not converting T4 to T3 than there is NO T4 only med that's going to help you.. this comes from your labs.. What i found is that my TSH, FT4 ad FT3 are in perfect harmony.. If my TSH is high than my FT4 and FT3 are low.. When my TSH is low than my FT4 and FT3 are high.. This is "normal" circumstances and tells you that you are converting well...
Avatar m tn Levoxyl is the same as it was before it was recalled. I've been on it since August 2014 and have done very well with it. What T4 med & dosage were you on when you tried cytomel before? What dosage of cytomel and how did you take it - all at once or multiple times/day?
Avatar f tn I’m taking a chance getting off the Synthroid clearing my body as much as I can and going to try Levoxyl One more time, I could still fill the Synthroid and my buddy even today, so I’m going to give it some more time, even though I was told it didn’t matter that I took it while I was taking Synthroid, the fact that I woke up with a high heart rate is abnormal especially with the low dose of 25.
Avatar f tn It is Levothyroxine which is just like Synthroid....it is made in Mexico. Is there a reason why you are asking?
Avatar f tn An interesting question. Go to the FDA site and research Synthroid. "Synthroid" is not necessarily "synthroid". By that I mean, for various reasons the brand name is the same, however the composition has changed several times. Also look up Levoxyl.
Avatar f tn If you go to good RX it does not list a generic for Levoxyl. Synthroid of course is levothyroxin as it’s generic. There Hass to be a difference between the two drugs, I was told to get off the medication and have awful insomnia when I was trying to switch between the two and had a dose increase and I’m highly sensitive to medications in general.
404389 tn?1217030704 The cost of Synthroid is minimal. Generic forms do not save the insurance companies all that much money - but will agrue the fact until they are "blue in the face" If it comes down to it - stay on the brand name and pay the difference. many many money saving offers are available to continue Synthroid. I heard Synthroid.com has a coupon to use each month when a refill is required.
Avatar m tn That is a very complicated question to which there is no clear answer. In the first place "synthroid" is a make-believe brand name. If you search the FDA site you will find, over the years, there have been significantly different chemical compositions. all with the same "brand name". Peoples reviews are not the best way to choose a physician. The exact mechanism that causes a problem is often elusive, even when you have a "top doctor".
Avatar n tn I hope you have better luck back on the Levoxyl than you had on Synthroid. If not, you may have to ask your doctor for a dosage adjustment. Keep us posted on how you get along.
Avatar n tn The Synthroid was about $20 for 30 days and Levoxyl is $14. The Synthroid coupon can be used for either 30 or 90 day supply. ($3 or $10, respectively) There is also a Levoxyl coupon. A free 30 day supply every 90 days, up to a max of 3 free rx's.
Avatar f tn Many endos believe that generic levo is not the same as the brand names. The reason they give for this is that generic can vary in its actual drug content by 10-15% from the nominal dosage. That's one theory. The other is that the big pharmaceutical companies have run a very successful smear campaign to discredit their competition and sell more of their higher-priced brand-name drugs. I don't know who I believe, to tell you the truth.
Avatar f tn My thought is that I need to remain on the Synthroid, short term, until the adverse effects of the Levoxyl diminish. After that, what other thyroid drugs should my doctor try and which ones should I avoid? I am afraid of having this type of a reaction again. Please advise as I would like this opinion for my next conversation with my endo Dr. Thank you.
Avatar m tn The only real difference between the two brands are the fillers they use and the shape of the pill. Synthroid has lactose, Levoxyl does not. The other fillers vary as well. If the fillers in one brand do not agree with you, the other brand may be better. The strengths are identical.
Avatar f tn Thanks Char4317 the endo sent Cytomel to my pharmacy and will begin taking cytomel as well as Levoxyl. I feel this will do the trick. Taking the cytomel will bump up my T3 and T4 levels and hopefully allow me to feel better with more energy? Thanks for all your advice. FTB4, if I were you, I would try Levoxyl. I didnt have all the horrible side effects I had on Synthroid. Thanks!
Avatar n tn I feel as good, or better, than I did on Tirosint. The best part is that my wallet loves the price difference. I just picked up my refill yesterday, so I'm good to go for another 90 days.
Avatar n tn re all having to deal with it. Levoxyl was recalled to the retail level, so the shelves were emptly as soon as the recall was published. They are saying that it could be 2014 before it's back. Different manufactureres use different fillers (inactive ingredients) in their tablets, and people are sometimes allergic or sensitive to them. Brand name Tirosint is a gelcap with water as the only filler, so it's hypoallergenic. You could ask your doctor about that.
