Common Questions and Answers about Is levothroid generic

synthroid

Avatar f tn Hope someone can help. I have had low to no thyroid function all my life. I was on synthroid made by "flint" from the age of 4. When flint stopped making it I had to switch to the now "synthroid brand and have had several allergic reactions. My doctor switched me to levothroid made by forest and it was awesome no side effects no swelling in my tongue or throat. I had no swallowing problems.
Avatar n tn Thyroxine is the thyroid hormone T4. Levothyroxine is the generic name of T4 meds of which there are numerous brands, including the following. Each of these brands contain thyroxine, but differ in the filler material used in manufacture of the pills.
Avatar n tn Do you take a brand name replacement such as Synthroid or Levothroid? If you take a generic, your pharmacy can switch generic brands and all generics aren't alike. If you do take a generic, you may want to get your doctor to prescribe a brand name so your dose will remain consistent. If you do take a brand name, another possibility for requiring a dose change is recent weight gain or loss. Good luck to you!

One cheap filler that is famous for reactions is talc and is used in most OTC drugs. It Is rare he says, but does happen. Three days later on the brand Levothroid, I am totally headache free and feel great!!!! I hope this helps someone else with the same experience. I switched after only 30 days post TT. I think its important to give your body time to adjust before trying a switch.
404389 tn?1217030704 The cost of Synthroid is minimal. Generic forms do not save the insurance companies all that much money - but will agrue the fact until they are "blue in the face" If it comes down to it - stay on the brand name and pay the difference. many many money saving offers are available to continue Synthroid. I heard Synthroid.com has a coupon to use each month when a refill is required.
Avatar f tn Synthroid, Unithroid, Levothroid, or generic levothyroxine. I would appreciate any advice.
Avatar m tn If you are on generic, perhaps your pharmacy is now getting the generic from a different manufacturer (this is the argument against taking generics - lack of consistency). Different manufacturers use differend fillers, and sometimes those are the culprit. However, your symptoms might also be being caused because you need an increase or decrease in dosage. Do you have recent FT3, FT4 and TSH labs to post?
Avatar f tn I am sensitive to some meds and wonder if it may also be due to fillers, binders and changes of manufacturers when on generic. The most uncomfortable side effect is the difficulty in breathing while on Levothroid, Unithroid and Levoxyl. I don't know what to do. Obviously I HAVE to be on thyroid medication but can't tolerate the side effects anymore! I'm suppose to try brand name Levoxyl again but I know what I will experience with the breathing.
Avatar m tn So, the GP and I decided to lower my levothroid to 112 mcg. My TSH was about .67 at the time. The lowered levothroid seemed to help with the anxiety and dry skin and teeth grinding. I did not feel better, just different; it is hard to explain. Then, after 7 months, my TSH came back at 4.63. Yikes! Doc and I upped dose back to 125mcg. Within two weeks, the anxiety came back as well as the floating weird feelings and the headaches were nonstop.
Avatar f tn I can see both sides of this coin. On one hand, I agree with Stella. On the other hand, the way it is absorbed, a larger dose one day a week shouldn't make a dramatic affect, theoretically. Try it for a few weeks and see if things level out. As long as you are not having bothersome heart symptoms, you should be safe. Are you taking generic Levothyroxine? If you are, you would be better off with a name brand drug. If you're taking Levothroid, it is available in a dose of 88mcg.
Avatar f tn So now if you are hypO, that is why you are on Levothroid. It replaces thyroid hormone that you are now lacking. An increase in Levethroid will make you less hypo. Hypo thyroid can cause a lot of muscle pain in some people.
Avatar f tn Levothroid is a name brand drug, so that is good. Taking it at night is fine, as long as it doesn't keep you awake. You should take it on an empty stomach, so as long as you don't eat for about two hours before you take it, that will work. As long as your already taking it, and you don't feel any bad reactions from it, YEAH!! Keep doing what you're doing.
Avatar f tn Your Free T4 is a little low, but that is probably because you are taking cytomel as well as the Levothroid. Your T3 looks a teeny bit low, but if you feel good, it's good enough. Your TSH is low. This is just a guess, but; Your TSH might be low because of your Adrenal glands. When your adrenal glands get tired, they can inhibit TSH production to slow the thyroid down. The slow adrenal glands make the metabolism slow down to a rate they can keep up with.
Avatar n tn Forest laboratories make Armour, Thyrolar and Levothroid. Reading the article entitled "Does Forest Really Want to Save Natural Thyroid?" by Mary Shomon, it's obvious that Levothroid is Forest's drug of choice. Must be as cheap as chips to make Levothroid IMO. "Forest's synthetic T4/T3 medication is unavailable/backordered/no return date, and Forest's natural T4/T3 medication is unavailable/backordered/no return date.
Avatar f tn I am 32 and we r planning for a baby now. I have been on and off hypothyroid treatment from 2002. but my TSH was never higher than 11.5(thatz my highest reading before the last week's test result which is 37.62). My T3 and T4 are always in normal range. but i have a slightly higher antibodies. My TSH was 7 in june2011 and so i was on Levothroid 0.025mg for 9 months. Then my TSH dropped to 0.23. So i was asked to stop my medicines. After 2 months i again took a TSH test. Now TSH is 37.62.
Avatar n tn Did the doctor lower your Levothroid or discontinue the Cytomel?
Avatar f tn I have taken Levothroid for over 15 years due to complete removal of my thyroid because of thyroid cancer. I have had a few medications adjustments over the years but my last major adjustment was 6 months ago when my dosage was decreased from 175mg to 125mg (my TSH was 0.6). My new dosage is 150mg. How long will it take for me to feel better again? When should my blood test be repeated? Should I be seeing an endocrinologist. I am feeling very frustrated.
