Common Questions and Answers about Is laryngitis contagious webmd

laryngitis

Avatar m tn thanks for your reply!! I am worried if this is herpes laryngitis/phryngitis since they don't show any symptoms of hsv1 on the lips or in the mouth and it can impact the throat. I also read that some people will not show symptoms if it is GHSV1 (since I had only genetal contacts). Wondering if HSV1 causes directly laryngitis/phryngitis without causing any outbreaks on face or in the mouth !!
Avatar n tn the reason i asked if it is "plantar wart" is that if i leave it alone it look like it, but if i clip the hard part with nail clipper, it looks like the picture i posted
Avatar f tn To my knowledge,Infectious diseases or infectious agents such as viruses or bacteria don't have to have heat and friction to transfer. I would like the article you got that from. It would interest me. For example, you can get TB from someone coughing but you have to be in close contact and in the room for a while, it is an infectious bacteria (not contagious).
Avatar f tn I have gastro parasthesis, GERD, GastrtiS And the real culprit right now is sever esophageal spasms. My neck is numb along with a portion of my face they think that is because I have extreme muscle cramps or charlie horses in my neck. they actually think that this part is caused by my fibromyalogia. Most of the time do you sure cause after I throw up or regurgitate which includes a great amount of stomach acid.I have large swollen lymph nodes.
Avatar f tn Hi, transient loss of voice and hoarse voice are the typical symptoms of laryngitis. It is inflammation of the larynx (voice box). It is mainly caused by virus and treatment depends on type of virus affected. Even serological tests will help to identify the responsible pathogens. It can be treated with appropriate anti viral.
Avatar n tn is it safe to use spiriva and advair together my sister has had laryngitis for 4 weeks
Avatar f tn Giving unprotected oral to a female is very low risk for any stds and zero for hiv. The bigger risk is giving a male oral.
Avatar n tn As someone who is still recovering from acid reflux laryngitis, I will say that it took MONTHS for my voice to return. My laryngitis started in October 2009 and continued into April 2010 with slight improvements starting in late February. When I was first diagnosed as acid reflux causing my laryngitis, I was told it would take at least three months to get my voice back.
Avatar f tn However I have been sick a few times since then and every time the virus turns straight into terrible laryngitis. Before the surgery I very rarely ever got laryngitis but now it comes on so easily and lasts for a while. Is there any reason that this would be connected to my thyroid surgery? Wondering if this is still part of the healing process or not? Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you!
Avatar n tn People need to know that Barrets means tissue changes and that is bad and that turns into cancer. That is what it means. Why isn't it called cancer or precancer of the esophagus? I think if it was more lives could be saved. If I had been told that in the beginning, I would have done everything in my power to stop it. Because my gi doc was such a jerk and it was such a bad experience I found out too late. This should not happen to anyone else. Call it what it is..
788117 tn?1304011947 Have you considered having weekly total calories eaten and expended like WebMD? They also allow for tracking the calories expended doing specific daily activities like sleeping, desk work, shopping, etc. That way you can account for all the calories you burn in one day (not just those related to exercise) and compare them to all the calories you consume. I like their diet tracker very much but I like that Med Help has trackers for my migraines, my mood, etc.
Avatar n tn Oral is a low risk exposure but it is a risk for certain STDs such as HSV1/2, syphilis, Gono, NGU. Although and STD would cause throat issues it would not cause laryngitis... but your doctor could have misdiagnosed you. Best suggestion would be to get tested. you were protected with the vaginal half... no worries here.
Avatar n tn My son developed laryngitis about 2 months ago. It is severe so that he can not talk at all. His ENT diagnosed it as Muscular dysphonia. He is seeing a speech therapist, but it doesn't seem to be getting any better. He plays Sax in the band at school and can't get enough air out to play. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn I have developed a chronic dry cough & laryngitis, currently I have been dealing with symptoms for a month. I went thru same illness 5months ago was in the hospital & then passed around to various specialists without any real answers. I have done allergy testing, tests to rule out relfux, seen ENT, pulmonlogist, & family dr multiple times with not much success. No one can tell me why I got better last time, or why I am dealing with the same situation again.
Avatar m tn Hello, There are many conditions which can cause difficulty in speaking at higher pitches. Voice misuse and overuse are common causes. Acute laryngitis caused by allergies, viral infection, chronic laryngitis and laryngoesophageal reflux all can cause hoarseness and voice difficulties. Rare but serious causes producing these symptoms are vocal cord paralysis and vocal cord tumours. Please see your Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor) for an evaluation.
Avatar f tn It could be due to varied causes like upper respiratory tract infection like laryngitis or pharyingitis, head and neck cancer, oral cancer, reflux laryngitis in people who have acidity and GERD, muscle abnormality, voice box abnormality, polyps, tumors or weakness of voice box etc. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Avatar m tn Having your masseuse insert her finger into your rectum is absolutely no risk for HIV, even in the VERY unlikely situation that she had HIV. This is masturbation and masturbation is safe sex. There is no reason whatsoever to be tested for this exposure. As for your symptoms yes, they are consistent with the ARS but they are also consistent with a much, much more likely sort of infection – a community acquired viral syndrome as your doctor has suggested.
Avatar n tn If a male has herpes on his anus but is a straight heterosexual, and that he never have herpes developed on my penis, scrotum, groin or thigh area would that area be still consider contagious? If someone were to have either HSV1 or HSV2 does that make their entire skin contagious?
Avatar f tn More plausible causes of hoarseness of voice need to be checked like acute laryngitis, vocal cord nodules, allergies, gastro esophageal reflux, smoking, thyroid problems, trauma to larynx, parkinson’s disease and trauma to larynx. Consult an otolaryngologist who will evaluate the causes and treat likewise. Cough suppressants for laryngitis, treat GERD, stop smoking, vocal rest etc will make a difference. Hope this information helps you. Take care.
Avatar m tn I know that this make for a virtually nil risk, but I had a couple of complicating factors. One, is that the condom kept riding up and I kept having to push it back down. As a result, I am not sure if I was exposed to his semen when he ejaculated (from the bottom of the condom). Two, I tend to chew my tongue, this does not result in broken skin, but does create irritation of the taste buds. I am not sure if this would increase my risk if the condom had leaked.
