About a year ago he developed extreme pain and I got him to the hospital by ambulance. He had a burst appendix. The surgeon described what he found. There was extreme inflammation and a necrotic mass.

Has anyone had the experience that is the same? and is there a lower does that anyone has still been able to lose weight with? and yes I'm on a low carb diet and excercise plan. I'm doing better with this than I did before and I lost 33 pounds. It's the glipizide. also when do people take there dose, I may cut down to one pill a day to see if its helps me.
Avatar n tn I also take 500mg metformin after a meal(breakfast and dinner) and was advised to take 5mg glipizide before meals (breakfast and lunch) but sometimes I measure my bs before and notice it's sometimes 70-90 . A little about me: I don't eat at regular intervals, I don't snack , I have 3 meals a day . Wake up at 530 go to work, eat breakfast at 9 and then my lunch around 12 , dinner between 5-630. No snacks. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Avatar f tn glipizide is in the Sulfonylurea class of drugs. Sulfonylurea drugs work by forcing the pancreas to make more insulin, insulin lowers BG. So if you dont eat and continue to take glipizide you run the risk of getting hypos. I say the risk as it depends what your BG is and how much glipizide lowers your BG. If you are on glipizide you should have a BG test meter to check your BG. So test to see how your BG is doing.
647391 tn?1275016633 "Do you take Glipizide once a day? " Yes, usually around 5-6am. I eat breakfast 30-45 minutes later. "If so, what is your blood sugars at the end of day." <120 mg/dl "I think the glipizide helps, but doesn't last the day." Don't rely on medications to do all the work for you. There there to 'help' you. Do you exercise and break sweat for 60 minutes daily? Are you at normal body weight? Are you eating a proper diabetic diet?
6452556 tn?1381422100 Diabetics dont make enough or cant use the insulin we make, by taking Glyburide it forces the pancreas to make more insulin. This allows the cells to use the BG and store more BG as fat thereby lowering BG.
1273125 tn?1365077526 I do not agree with my physician that the Starlix is in the same class as the glip. The glipizide did lower my sugar but the Starlix is not. I don't feel that i am trying to be my own physician. Her CNP discussed the insulin treatments with me and that is what I was expecting to follow. I am trying to be my own advocate because now here I sit and my sugar is still very high.
Avatar n tn Often, beebop, oral diabetes medications are prescribed in combination; different medicines have different chemical action, and approach the control of diabetes from "different angles". However, what you seem to be saying is that you had two different doctors, each prescribed one medication and now you are taking both? If I'm understanding you correctly, that is not a good idea.
4117735 tn?1349962369 Is it OK to double, or tipple, your medication? I take Glipizide 10 mg. The reason asked is that I have been monitoring my glucose and it has been between 200 - 300, and I would like to lower my readings.
Avatar n tn s instructions, but each acts in a different way. Some physicians administer both at the same time. Another school of thought is to use one for a while, and then switch. I would ask him, but the change does not necessarily mean something bad has happened. You can look up the drugs. I have no strong feelings one way or the other.
183933 tn?1290216962 They feel this is more dangerous than unknown possible risks from glyburide. I have read that glyburide is considered very safe in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters but there has never been any study of the drug in pg women that I could find. If it makes you feel better, go ahead and ask your surrogate if she would switch to insulin at least for a month or two. That will give the babies time to finish all of those early developments that can be so sensitive.
Avatar m tn the drug glimepiride, is not making my blood sugar level lower; instead is higher 250! I am taking 2mg twice a day. My doctor says all is OK.
Avatar f tn I would time mine usually 2-3 hours after I took it I would drop so I would plan to have ate something a little after the 2 hours of taking it. Also I ALWAYS had candy in my purse just in case the glyburide is very unpredictable and I would end up dropping sometimes even after I had already ate.
Avatar f tn The doctor thought it would really make no differance when I took the pills as long as I had the daily dose I decided to take the Metformin at he same times as the Glipizide ie only one with my evening meal and I am now in my second week without a night sweat which for me is remarkable. Hopefully I've stopped my sweats and I'm not screwing up somewhere else and I'll keep you posted to the results of the iron tests.

Avatar f tn Also, oxy is more soluble and I believe it is a first pass metabolite, meaning it crosses the blood brain barrier after one pass thru the liver, where hydro is metabolized twice by the liver before becoming active. Oxy is much more powerfull than hydro per milligram and has a meaner withdrawel too.
