Common Questions and Answers about Is flaxseed meal a starch

flax-seed

Avatar f tn Try flaxseed meal. There is a brand called Bob's Red Mill that is already ground. If you live in an area that has a Trader Joe's store, that's a great place to get it. They sell the product cheaper than anyone else I know of. Other places will have it, too. I have seen it at grocery store chains in my own area. You can also find it at natural food stores or co-ops. I would try Trader Joes first, though. The beauty of flaxseed meal is that it is an actual food fiber.
Avatar n tn When my wife was preparing for an operation, her lab work showed her liver counts to be very high, near 200. The Dr. said, many things eaten could raise these levels. They wanted to know if she had eaten cereal with flaxseed and said flaxseed could have a large effect. I mention this so you'll know if it happens to you.
Avatar m tn Prediabetic is a label for having BG problems your 185 is high and so is your A1c An A1c of 5.7 to 6.4 is prediabetis (on two separate tests) while your fasting is OK you clearly have problems with carbohydrates they raise your BG and then you crash after. reducing your carbs will reduce your post meal BG spike and that may reduce your hypoglycemic reactions. You eat carbs your pancreas makes insulin but does not shut off so you go hypoglycemia.
Avatar n tn I buy the liquid gels and also grind whole flaxseed and mix it into a healthy smoothie drink. (Obviously, the flaxseed is to be taken orally--never directly to the eye!
Avatar f tn The naturopath said that psyllium can be irritating for a lot of people. This is why I have mentioned flaxseed meal to so many people on this site. With flaxseed meal, you can even add just a small portion of the amount you will be using for the whole day with each meal, so that you're also not eating it all at once, which might be helpful when you have such a sensitive system.
Avatar m tn but sugar has to go out, and...this is a diet trial, not a life-long regime. Starch from potatoes is easily broken down to glucose, so I mentioned it. Corn and bean yield gas more from fibers than from carbohydrates, so use the common sense. No need to avoid startch 100%. Rice may be ok as a basic food. Also whole grain bread. Meat, fish, eggs. Cooked vegetables, like carrot. Suggestion: start with 2., if no improvent in 3 days, proceed with 3., if still nothing, procedd with 4.

756140 tn?1294767094 s an effect so powerful that, in a new Mexican study, dieters given a drink spiked with resistant starch from bananas doubled their weight-loss results compared with dieters who got the same drink but no resistant starch. Banana fiber blocks fat and hunger! A two-banana breakfast starts your day with six grams of fiber and no fat. "Fiber bulks up in your stomach so you feel full longer," says Gillitt.
Avatar f tn I have come to the conclusion this is my problem. I have suffered with constipation for years and have seen a gastric doctor for 25+ years. I CANNOT drink the fiber drinks! Citrucel, Metimucel, etc. They blow me up and seem to get stuck in my stomach at my waist. Sometimes I go as long as 11 - 14 days without a bowel movement. Then I will go up to six times before I have totally evacuated, all the while getting very sick at my stomach, breaking out in a sweat and feeling faint.
Avatar f tn I can relate to some of this, because I have the same kind of IBS that you do. I don't know if I have FMS (I have the symptoms to indicate the strong possibility), but I do have CFS and MCS, so I can relate. We have a special problem, since we have many food sensitivities and allergies. I am sure you are already aware of the gluten intolerance and lactose intolerance issues, since they go with the territory. I was hospitalized with renal failure not too long ago myself.
Avatar n tn It does sound like IBS, and stress will certainly aggravate IBS. Have you seen a doctor for it? Usually, a GI will have a person go through some tests, like a colonoscopy, to rule out any other causes for your symptoms. Although it's most likely IBS, you really ought to see your doctor first of all. If you find out that this is IBS, there are some things you can do that will help it. One thing that doctors almost always try is prescribing an antispasmodic drug.
Avatar f tn Did your doctor run you through a series of tests to confirm this is IBS and not something else, such as the colonoscopy? If not, you should insist on it. Have you looked into food sensitivities? Something similar used to happen to me when I first learned that I had IBS. It wasn't until years later that anyone told me about the connection to food sensitivities. Try researching information about the food elimination challenge diet.
Avatar m tn There is a gentler fiber that I have found to be less irritating to the gut. This is flaxseed meal. I read of a woman who said that she used it much like one uses Metamucil and drinks it down first thing in the morning and last thing at night and has done so for years. Taking psyllium fiber (the main ingredient in Metamucil) wasn't helpful for her bowel troubles, but the flaxseed meal was. I find it helpful for me, too, but I simply add it directly to whatever I'm eating.
Avatar f tn What is a good pre/post- workout supplement? I am looking to tone and slim down. I haven't really seen any results at the gym since January.

Avatar f tn //www3.interscience.wiley.com/cgi-bin/fulltext/118552721/HTMLSTART For this reason, I always took my ribavirin with my two largest meals of the day and made sure they contained adequate fat. According to my medical team, because riba has a long half life, the timing of the two doses isn't that important. I just made sure the doses were at least 4-5 hours apart.
Avatar m tn Yea, a Home Cooked meal is a million times better than any crap you will get in a dirty rat and roach infested restaurant. Go to the grocery store with your parents, pick out some Fresh Fish, Chicken, Filet Mignon, Favorite Vegetable or two, Favorite Starch, and Ingredients for your Mom to make your favorite dessert.
Avatar f tn sport -- so we have to know, how do you practice? Most sports require a lot of running and lifting, but baseball is mostly a game of skill, with a lot of standing around and then sudden spurts of movement. So if you practice really hard, you need more to recover from than if you don't. What baseball does do is tax the back and the legs from the crouching and bending, and the arm from the throwing.
Avatar m tn m sure you and your mother will see some improvement in your IBS symptoms by using flaxseed meal instead of psyllium fiber. Psyllium fiber is known to be harsh and irritating to the gut. Whereas flaxseed meal is soothing and calming to the gut. I add it directly to my food. I find that it has a pleasant nutty kind of flavor, which is great, since I do miss the taste of nuts, since I've developed nut allergies.
Avatar n tn It is recommending 2 feeding a day of a starch which can be the infant cereal, bread, crackers, or pasta. At one of the feedings which maybe infant cereal, you can give him 2-4 Tablespoons depending on the amount your child will consume. Remember there are other foods in the meal, not just cereal.
