Common Questions and Answers about Is famvir an antibiotic

famvir

Avatar f tn If it was a canker sore, why did it react to the Famvir? Does Famvir still have an effect on canker sores then, as well as cold sores? Am I contagious? Was I ever contagious? And can I actually kiss my husband again? Thanks for any advice! Much appreciated.
669383 tn?1226417041 I would assume it is until proven otherwise. See your doctor if you aren't sure if it's a herpes recurrence or not. Lysine really doesn't do much at all for herpes. If you really want to ward off recurrences then talk to your doctor about acyclovir, famvir or valtrex suppressively.
Avatar n tn I am also on Valtrex and I continue to get outbreaks but they last for a few days and then go away for weeks, sometimes months before I get another. My spouse who also has herpes does not take an antiviral so that is why I believe I still get my outbreaks. Are you still engaging in intercourse while having outbreaks, maybe that is whey they aren't getting better. Also, I'm not sure what famvir is, but maybe it is stronger than Valtrex and will help you.
Avatar m tn I have been on famvir suppressively and the symptoms have subsided, since my test results have been negative I stopped the famvir and the symptoms returned. My question is what other virus can cause these symptoms and is famvir effective against any other viruses other than herpes?
Avatar f tn I would recommend that you see an eyeMD to find out the cause of your persistent eye pain. Famvir is an antiviral medication aimed at treating the shingles. Dr. Feldman Sandy T. Feldman, M.D., M.S.
Avatar f tn My phys assistant says herpes over the phone, told me to increase famvir and use an acyclovir cream. I am still waiting to see if there is a result.
Avatar m tn Please listen to Lizzies advice, she is somewhat of an expert on this forum with a wealth of experience on Hiv matters.
Avatar m tn In the following years (2007-2009) i have only had 3-4 outbreaks. when i get an outbreak i use famvir, 2 tablets at first then 1 every 12 hours for 3 doses. these always worked quickly and the outbreaks were never severe and didn't last longer than a week or so start to finish. In the last 2 weeks (jan 2010) i had a small outbreak that i immediately took my usual dose of famvir for and it cleared up, almost totally within 5-7 days.
Avatar m tn They gave you the famvir for the herpes. Why did they give you the doxy ( which is an antibiotic )? did you also have an urinary tract infection or did they suspect another std was present? I definitely recommend follow up on this - either a visit to the clinic again or a phone call to them.
Avatar m tn Ive tryed acyclavir and famvir lots of both.along with an antiviral mouthwash.nothing touches this stuff.today is 9months sense the sores started.I have not gone longer then 2weeks without sore.most of the time there constant.
Avatar f tn Most likely the antibiotic was prematurely discontinued, or she has an infection elsewhere and reinfected herself when she rubbed her eye. Similarly helibactor pylori requres administration of three different antibiotics (tripple therapy) to eliminate the infection in the stomach from this troublesome organism. I am in no position to recommend treatment for your mother's eye infection, but it would be reasonable and prudent to continue antibiotic treatment with one or more antibiotics.
Avatar n tn He dismissed the fact I still have some symptoms and respond to famvir. My problem with this is at the same time my blood work came back and showed globulin levels low ( my test=2.0 , ref for 26y/o male 2.1-3.7) I asked if this could have screwed up the blood test and he said no , it was not really anything to worry about it was not very low. His opinion was I probably do not have herpes but can come back for testing in 6 mo to be sure. Should I get a second opinion?
Avatar m tn It should've been 2 500mg famvir tablets to take 2x/day for 1 day. Is that what you were given or just 1 500mg pill?
Avatar f tn If valtrex is too pricey for you on your insurance - look into famvir or acyclovir - both are available as a cheaper generic and is usually more affordable with insurances. If you've never read the herpes handbook before I suggest you give it a read. It has more info on treatments for further reading - www.westoverheights.com.
Avatar n tn i know that valtrex and famvir are different family of anti-viral's. has anyone had poor results with valtrex and had to change to famvir? i don't seem to be responding to valtrex or acyclovir so i might change.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had better results with Famvir? And does it help suppress transmission like Valtrex does? My Dr thinks the Valtrex might be causing my hair loss so I am switching....
Avatar n tn He told me to go on famvir (think thats what it says his writing is a mess) when I feel an outbreak coming on. I have a few questions now that I was told I have this.
Avatar m tn Okay so what's the name of the medicines I should take and could I get them at any drug store
Avatar f tn There are good reasons for a physician bringing blood levels of an antibiotic up to a certain level, and if this is not done the liklihood of developing an antibiotic resistant bacteria increases, endangering not only the patient but the rest of the human race increases. Follow the physician's instructions and do not discourage your friend from doing so.
Avatar n tn the initial outbreak was painful and tookseveral weeks to clear up even after taking a course of Famvir. Even though I had a lingering discomfort in the affected area I was otherwise symptom free for about 8 months. After that I got outbreaks about 5-6 times a year that were treated with Famvir. I then received the Shingles vaccine which was followed within a month by an outbreak that was light. That was followed by 8 months of nothing except the lingering discomfort in the area.
