Is doxycycline in the penicillin family

Common Questions and Answers about Is doxycycline in the penicillin family

doryx

would it be a major mistake to even try taking the Doxycycline in the first place? If I'm allergic to one drug in the tetracycline family, am I allergic to all of them? I should probably get a professional's opinion on this, but for the moment, this is close as I can come to that. Please share any experiences or advice!
Nothing in your post implied to me that your doctors are in any way withholding the truth from you. Lichen Planus is incurable and random. Take care and good luck.
I was prescribed doxycycline to prevent infection. I took it for 3 1/2 days and I felt like complete crap everyday and last night was the worst. I was so neasous and felt horrible. it gave me really really bad anxiety. I almost took myself to the ER ( hubby was drunk sleeping, lol) but I was able to calm myself and get thru the worst before I fell asleep. So now I'm not taking it anymore! My sister also has a hard time with "cycline" antibiotics! NO MAS!
The mitral regurgitation can get better if she is still in the acute phases of carditis or in the immediate period afterward. She absolutely should finish her antibiotics and follow appropriate antibiotic phrophalaxis here after. It is worth seeing a cardiologist if you haven't already done so. I am not familiar with Dr. Chin's article, but if it was in a reputable journal, I would trust it.
According to most websites tetracycline is part of the penicillin family and is also used gonorrhoea, syphilis and chlamydia. I just wanted to check this is true?
I believe I have the Australian version of a neuroborreliosis causing European species called Borrelia Garinii, a different species than the North American Borrelia Burgdorferi, but still within the group that causes human borreliosis. All the treatment experience in the US is on b.burgdorferi. There isn't a whole lot of studies done overseas on different species to know what works best for them. I just know that the penicillin family has worked really well for me.
It seems like something is hurting in the lower abdomen. My Vet is suspecting that the dog has hurt his hips and is suggesting for an X-Ray as well. -> No proper Intake; Vomiting: He is not interested to eat anything. Even the sweets that used to be his favorite. So, he has become very weak now Whatever he eats, he used to vomit it out. But now, he is vomiting out Water only. Seems like his body is accepting food but not water.
if you have created one. This is in on the top line of all the pages and is indicated by a red heart. You will see see the different things, like photos, journal notes, and messages, that are available to you. On the first page of your journal, I invite you to write up your "story" - whether it be of your experiences with MS or of diagnosis, or your frustrations of not having a diagnosis. Write about whatever it is that brings you to a place of support, friendship and information.
These pieces have been shown (in the paper that the blog is about) to actually actively REACT with the immune system (the dead bacteria pieces incite a release of cytokines *ouch*). When the antibiotics get through breaking the Lyme into little dead pieces, you end up with a kind of disseminated Lyme soup that is not only in your joints, but also it has now spread all over your body. You can't point to where it hurts because it hurts dang all over!
I have seen a specialist in the field of infections and is an OBGYN. My husband is a carrier of Strep B. I was put on mupirocin 1% vaginal suppositiory twice daily for 14 days. He is taking Amox-Clav 875 mg twice daily for 14 days. I was treated frist and after sex was reinfected. This was a clue that he was the reason that we were having issues. Both must be treated. Give your Dr a call and let them know. Good luck and feel better.
because there was a big white patch in the back of my throat. However, the strep culture came back negative, which is kind of peculiar, so she put me on amoxicillin and said that she would have to send a culture off to another lab if the patch didn't clear up to see what else it could be.
I do have a penicillin allergy. And we had the toga testing done in the beginning to confirm. We went to the doc yesterday and he said that since the vdrl did not increase in the past 3 years we should consider ourselves cured. But what puzzles me is the elevated igg?
One I would never take is in the leviquin family or class of quinolones I have received an alert that is can cause problems with tendons. I had one rip in my foot while just walking.
Hi, It is possible that the organism causing the infection is resistant to doxycycline (since your symptoms have continued despite being on doxycycline for 3 days. It would be best to go back to your doctor and report that the antibiotic has not helped. You will need to take the antibiotic for the prescribed duration in the interim. Also your urine culture report (if done) would be available now and that would really help decide what antibiotic is best for you.
You probably added the yeast infection with your uti the last time you had the antibiotics. The UTI can be treated with a sulfur drug that also has an agent in it that helps with the burning. The Candida (yeast) can be treated with the various creams they have on the market. Because you have had this for a while be sure you use a full 5 to 7 day course.
It is 4 a.m. and I am desperately trying to figure out why I continue to break out in hives and have joint pain in my elbows, feet, hands and legs. I too started breaking out in hives after taking the antibotic Solodyn for acne. After a trip to the ER, it was assumed that I had an alergic reaction to the medicine. I stopped taking the medicine after only 3 weeks and needless to say, I am still breaking out in hives and have joint pain. I have been tested for allergies and that was negative.
In early June, I noticed what seemed like a cyst in the fold of my left labia. The area was red and tender. In a couple of days, it burst basically on its own and there was pus and blood. Within a week, the whole area was itchy (no discharge) and then my right labia became very swollen and lymph nodes on either side were swollen and tender. I went to urgent care.
6) - heart palpations - hair loss on scalp, but hair growth on face, neck, chest, abdomen - malaise - jaundice - rashes on my face and forearms that intensifies when in the sun for too long - constipation - joint stiffness that is worse in the morning - recently I have had an unexplainable scatoma develop ONLY in the upper left quadrant of my left eye that respects the meridian (right eye is 20/20 and is fine).
We moved into an apartment in July and my symptoms still persist...however the pressure in my head is definitely not as bad as when I went to the ER. I went to natural/homeopathic doctors and no one knows anything. One girl, who looked at my live blood under a microscope said I have a very bad infection and she thinks it's Lyme disease.
This same person has been a few times over the years for allergy skin tests and they tell her that she is only mildly allergic to this or that. The allergist told her that she is in the 20% that do not respond to allergy skin tests meaning that he does not know what she is allergic too but she is and thus she cannot get allergy shots because he does not know what she is allergic too? What is the answer? Have you ever heard of this happening to others?
Hello, 18 months ago I thought I had contracted syphilis in an unprotected encounter. I was tested 4 times in the past 15 months because I had exhibited signs/symptoms of this diease, penile redness/indentation of the skin, shiny "snail type tracks" under the head of the penis, fatigue, headaches, white patches on side of tongue, rash that comes and goes over different parts of the body. All my blood tests were negative. I admitted my mistake to my wife months ago.
The results will have two parts. The first part will say what the bug is. The second part will tell you what antibiotics the bug is sensitive to. It will have a list of antibiotics with either an "S" next to it....which means it's SENSITIVE to that antibiotic.....or it will have an "R" which means the bug is RESISTANT to that antibiotic. (if the sensitivity results say "PENDING", you'll have to tell your doctor to call the lab and get them.....
Do I have to wait more time for the medicines to take effect, or is it possible that the infection might be resistant to the treatment? Also, are the treatments for rectal gonorrhea the same, or if not, which are such treatments? Thanks in advance.
What if the Doxy doesn’t work what do you recommend as an alternative Im allergic to penicillin. The 2 week course of therapy is for treatment of established infection. There was no evidence that you had established syphilis, thus the therapy you received will suffice and further therapy is not needed. 3) What are the odds that I contracted HIV from this exposure? How accurate is my HIV COMBO test the doctor said nothing is conclusive till 3 month.
HAVE YOUR SPUTUM CULTURED The ony reason I have had a relatively good year is that I finally begged my RA doc to culture them in 2008 and it came back with a GRAHM NEGATIVE Pseudomonas bacteria which is resistant to the normal antibiotics and had to be placed in the hospital for an 8 day course of IV antibiotics. Due to the repeated infections that never really went away I now have moderate lung damage.
Trovan Augmentin Ciprofloxacin Erythromycin-family Tetracycline-family Chloramphenicolum-family i carry a list of these in my purse in the event i should land in the hospital or such. ive had bad reactions in the past to erythromicin for example. the PENICILLIN family ones are the ones ive seen listed as the best for us with liver issues.
I now see one of the Top Lyme Doctors in the US, people fly from all over to see him, but for me it is only a 2 hour drive, he is in D.C. I have been under his care for 3 months now. My impression from my protocol (and also from Dr. Burrascano's protocol which is published on the web and very helpful to read through), is that 1 antibiotic 2X per day is a very very low dosage. I am on 4 different ABX and I take 3 of them....2Xper day for 3 weeks then off a week, ON 3 weeks then OFF a week.
I am proceeding with the chemo which is basically 3gms EDTA and 1gm of tetracycline per day taken in two doses morning and evening - the EDTA is packaged in gelatine capsules to kill the terrible taste and will be tested again around June 06. The chemo is experimental based on the base ingredients used by the group in Florida.
There has been a lot of press lately about over-use of antibiotics, but the problem is not using the right antibiotics in the right amount for the right length of time -- the problem is people who take the wrong (ineffective) antibiotics for too short a time and don't take enough of it -- the object is to kill them all, and fast -- before they can become resistant to the antibiotics.
Welcome to MedHelp Lyme -- I see you are in Germany. There is a clinic in Augsburg that is said be quite good -- BCA, Borreliose Centrum Augsburg. I understand what you mean about the cost of testing ... but that needs to be balanced against the daily and long-term cost to you of being so ill indefinitely. Lyme will not go away by itself, although sometimes your immune system can keep it in check at a low level.
