Common Questions and Answers about Is avelox in the penicillin family

avelox

Avatar f tn I think the key word is rare. Nothing in life is 100% guaranteed. Your ablation caries a risk but again very rare or small risk. One that may be worth it to maintain your longevity and a healthy heart. So rather than focus on that very small small chance that something may happen remember there is a much much larger chance everything will go fine. A word of caution though ectopics (skipping beats) will continue beyond the ablation for your svt. They are two different conditions.
Avatar n tn This same person has been a few times over the years for allergy skin tests and they tell her that she is only mildly allergic to this or that. The allergist told her that she is in the 20% that do not respond to allergy skin tests meaning that he does not know what she is allergic too but she is and thus she cannot get allergy shots because he does not know what she is allergic too? What is the answer? Have you ever heard of this happening to others?
Avatar n tn Sure, there are lots of antibiotics. If you're allergic to azithromycin, you also probably can't take clarithromycin and erythromycin. And if doxycycline doesn't work, there's probably no used in taking tetracycline. So that does eliminate a lot of them. If the doxycycline isn't working, either your tests are consistently false positives, or you have a resistant strain. It's not typical, but it does happen.
Avatar m tn I am leery of anything that could add to my liver damage and normally try to get an antibiotic in the penicillin family. There are times that the risk outweighs the benefit. Good luck to you.
Avatar n tn It is now 5 days taking benadryl and the hives and itching have not stopped. What is in the clindamycin that I may be allergic to?
Avatar f tn t working, but Cephalexin is different enough it might work. You can tell if its working if the pain/swelling go away in 4-5 days.
Avatar m tn t use my hands to open bottles and things of that nature due to tingling in my hands from the swellings and from the veins near surface of hands. Went to ER and they only visually looked and said they see nothing wrong with veins and swellings probably from eating to much salt, which is not true because my diet hasn't changed and I haven't experienced this before.
1373852 tn?1307843048 t end up with avelox but took leavaquin that is a kin of avelox and six days later ended up having respiratory failure and in the hospital for 3 months one of which I was in icu on a ventilator.Since then I have had widespread muscular pain and multiple tendonitis as well as other issues so I don't agree that these antibiotics don't have side effects maybe you should read up more about the new black box warnings.
Avatar f tn you can buy them in the phamacy now..the bottle with the right amount of salt in the package....or make your own.. you have to snort a fair of this liquid amount to wash out your sinuses each day...not very pleasant but it will clear out most sinus infections without the use of anti-B's so you may want to try it first....get at least a tablespoon to go up each nostril teice a day to be effective.
Avatar f tn I thought i was the only one in the world this happens to. I want to speak with you. The exact same thing is happeneing to me. Write to me as soon as you get this please.
Avatar f tn Erythromycin is a macrolide...that's usually what is given to people who have penicillin or sulfa drug allergies.
Avatar m tn there has never been a reported and confirmed case of HIV transmission by cunnilingus (oral-vaginal contact), either to the genital partner or the oral partner. And if you are in the US or other industrialized country, the odds are extremely low (probably under 1 in 1,000) that your partner had HIV. Your symptoms sound like a garden variety cold. Acute HIV infection does not cause nasal congestion or other "sinus" symptoms, and it almost always causes fever of 101 or higher.
Avatar m tn No. Not yet. The discharge is clear to pearly white. What color is typical for gonorrhea discharge?
Avatar m tn Another problem, is that since it is NGU, we cannot test to confirm if the bacteria is cured, and she is also asymptomatic. We are going to see a doctor about this, but I would like a second opinion. What antibiotic would you recommend for her? This seems like a complicated situation. This discussion is related to Discharge, drip and Urethritis, but no STD.
Avatar m tn Benzylpenicillin, Benzathine penicillin, Phenoxymethylpenicillin, Oxacillin Sodium, Cloxacillin, Dicloxacillin, Ampicillin Sodium, Ampicloxacillin sodium, Pvampicillin, Amoxicillin, Carbenicillin sodium, Talampicillin, Furbenicillin, Mecillinam, Carindacillin sodium, Ticarcillin. These antibiotics cause the least liver damage and only patients who are allergic may experience some side effects.
Avatar f tn The other modes of transmission should be looked for. Crowded living condition in the family and school can predispose to infection. The other causes are incomplete antibiotic treatment, other copathogens and repeated exposure. Treatment with primary antibiotic is penicillin and its congeners; others are cephalosporin, macrolides etc agaisnt prescription will help. I suggest you to consult pediatrician and undergo examination and take medications against prescription. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn Took Cipro and the sinus pain was not improved so that was follwed by a course of Avelox where I ended up in the ER by day 7 on it [couldn't walk on my own needed IV fluids]. Off it for a week now and still really tired, various nerve pain, joint pain, muscle fatigue...seems to cycle, weak and dizzy, some blurred vision but it's all better than it had been just seems it should be gone since the meds are out of my system.
660680 tn?1225215237 The itch you experienced, particularly given just how it was related in time to taking the avelox, suggests a drug reaction. It does not in any way suggest HIV. I bet the itch will go away as the avelox leaves your system. Your HIV test will not be worthless but it was taken a bit early to be 100% confident with its results. At two weeks an HIV blood test would detect about half of infections acquired two weeks or more earlier.
Avatar f tn I understand it will eventually go away, but I was wondering how long that might be and if there is any way to lessen the severity of both the itchiness/burning as well as the appearance. It's not pretty to look at for sure. Any advice/insight would be very much appreciated!
Avatar f tn Yeah, some docs don't like the drugs in that family of abx (Levaquin, Avelox, Cipro) as eventually they're going to get a patient with a bad reaction. Nothing like a ruptured achilles heel requiring surgery, crutches, and rehab to **** off a patient! ;) I just did my second set of blood tests today, and I see my LLMD on Wed. I have slowly declining kidney function, but I don't know if that's related to the Levaquin or what.
Avatar m tn This has been my first time ever diagnosed with Syphilis and other than that I don't have any other health problems. I got tested back in October 2014 with all STDs lab results--including HIV--negative, except for my RPR with titer: 1:64--later on it was confirmed by FTA-ABS with negative spinal tap results (neurosyphilis ruled out). I was then referred to an (sexual) infectious disease doctor at a county public health here in California where I was treated with penicillin treatment.
Avatar n tn I recently developed an upper respitory infection and bronchitis and one of the medications was AVELOX. Within 3 days the severe pain in my shoulders was GONE. How is this possible? Was it a viral infection causing my pains and if so could it be a form of Lyme Disease?
