arimidex

Avatar n tn I had Stage 4 ovarian cancer last year with great results, but I now have a "thickening" that the oncologist is watching she decided to be pro-active and placed me on the generic form of tamoxifin which it turns out I am very sensitive to, as I explained to the doctor, If I continue on this medication I will also need a flea collar. The itching is terrible, I went off of it twice now and tried to restart it again with the same results.
Avatar m tn Dear madwilson, Hairloss is not a usual side effect associated with Arimidex. Arimidex is an aromatase inhibitor. This means it blocks the enzyme aromatase (found in the body's muscle, skin, breast and fat), which is used to convert androgens (hormones produced by the adrenal glands) into estrogen. In the absence of estrogen, tumors dependent on this hormone for growth will shrink. For more information regarding this drug and side effects you can check out the website chemocare.com.
Avatar f tn Why am i taking a 1mg dose, which is standard, when a women who weighs a lot more than me and still has her ovaries takes the same dose. If you know the answer, or know where I can find the information, please let me know. To answer your questions, I did suffer for nightsweats and hotflashes, but complared to what I'm going though now, I can handle that.
Avatar m tn After seeing an endocrinologist who ran all types of blood work which came back normal with the exception of his estrogen level a bit higher then normal and had an X-ray of his hand which showed bones of a 13 half to 14 half yr old (I was told was good ) want to give my son arimidex. My question is......is this safe for teen boys. I read its not FDA approved for children.

Avatar n tn My question is that you think the treatment is the right one, or you think is better to replace Tamoxifen with someting else? (Arimidex,etc..) Many thanks in advance for your reply and all the best!
Avatar n tn I learned that some weman experienced elevated blood pressure and blood clots while on Arimidex. And Arimidex is known to cause high blood pressure and blood clots. How do know for sure that Arimidex is the cause of my high blood pressure?
1030058 tn?1252253572 My oncologist thinks the risk is there because of the Her2neu but she herself says she is extremely conservative. Also I did not receive any herceptin, I was 18month to 2 years post diagnosis when that was cleared and my previous oncologist (in California) felt the risk outweighed the benefits for me. I would like some advice to help me make an informed choice.
Avatar n tn This is not a "professional" opinion as you requested (you'd need to post in the BC Expert Forum for that), but my advice would be not try to augment Arimidex with the broccoli seed extract, which has not been subjected to rigorous research. Arimidex has been well-researched, and the significant benefit it has been proven to bring in terms of risk reduction for recurrence is based on the use of it alone. I'd say, "Why mess with success!" Best wishes...
Avatar n tn The purpose of this post is for other breast cancer survivors on Arimidex - looking for experiences with joint pain. I had chemotherapy and radiation therapy in 2006 for a stage 2 invasive lobular carcinoma. I was on Tamoxifen from mid-2006 until late 2008 - when I had an oophorectomy (prophylactic). I had tolerated the Tamoxifen very well for two years - few side effects. I was switched to Arimidex in late 2008 and have been on it since. I am a pretty healthy (other than the BC) - 52 year old.
Avatar f tn Dear baba_g: The purpose of arimidex (an other aromatase inhibitors) is to try to prevent cancer recurrence – not only for the duration that the drug is used but in years beyond. The purpose of the clinical trial is to ask the question if 10 years is better than 5. While there are recurrences in people who are taking arimidex and other medications, the data is looked at not individually but in large numbers to see if overall, 10 years would be better than 5.
Avatar n tn I would seem odd to have this type of reaction since you've been on Arimidex for over 2 years but I suppose anything is possible. Since the Oncologist thinks your symptoms may be caused by something other than the drug you might want to ck. with a Neurologist regarding this numbness OR perhaps an Internist, since this may even be a circulatory issue.Sounds like it's going to be a process of elimination in order to find the cause. Regards ....
Avatar f tn I am taking Aromasin,( the generic ) after being taken off Arimidex because of severe side effects. Soon after I had to have cataract surgery, and after 2 months of perfect vision, I had to have laser surgery in the same eye due to deteriorating vision. It's been over a year since my cataract surgery and my vision is getting worse in both eyes and I am experiencing severe pain at times after waking up.
Avatar n tn I started taking Arimidex about five months ago. Since then I have had many of the typical side effects such as hand/joint pain, neuropathy in my hands, hot flashes, wakefulness at night etc. However, my sight in one eye has also begun to noticeably deteriorate. I know, because I had my eyes checked and a new eye prescription just before I started taking Arimidex. I saw my eye doctor again last week and my vision has deteriorated from 20/40 to 20/70 (with correction) in just a few months.
Avatar n tn Does Arimidex have to actually kill you vs. maiming you for life, in order to be pulled off the market? At 58, I may need a hip replacement because I took Arimidex for two years! DeeDee This discussion is related to Arimidex Long Term Side Effects.
Avatar n tn Is painfful intercourse a common side effect of Arimidex? I even have pain from just touching the vaginal area, plus burning from contact to various soaps except Ivory. Will this go away when I get off of Arimidex in 3 more years? My obgyn wants to give me estrogen cream but my oncologist is against it. What can I do to get relief? HELP!
Avatar n tn Even though her pathology showed a negative hormone receptor her oncologist is saying that they are now finding arimidex to slow the growth of tumors in some patients that had a long time from initial breast cancer treatment to a recurrence. Has anyone else heard of this? I'm wondering if the HMO is trying to lower their cost of her care using this instead of the Chemotherapy Adriamyacin. It would, however, be a great thing if it actually works. Thanks for any advice!
Avatar f tn What do you think is being withheld?
Avatar n tn I think a lot of the weight is water. Only took the arimidex for a few days but in that little time gained about 5 pounds. femara was a little better but I went off it also. Going back on Tamoxifen, and I have a feeling it's the best drug for me anyway.
Avatar n tn Though there is a good theoretical basis for the use of arimidex on endometriosis, I believe that this is still an off-label indication for the drug and the clinical basis for its use is still from phase II clinical trials (studies with still low number of patients). Until such time that the indication of endometriosis can be demonstrated in large phase III clinical trials, the use of arimidex for endometriosis is still controversial.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed in 08 and am her2 positive. I went through chemo, radiation and 1 year of hercepton. Since then I"ve beem on arimidex. My main complaint other then hot flashes (terrible lol) is fatigue. It seems that I"ve lost alot of energy. The fatigue comes shortly after I start a project. Because of the hot flashes I get little sleep some nights but does the arimidex also cause fatigue? Is a side effect of hercepton fatigue (taken in 09,,,,?
Avatar f tn I saw a Professor of Endocrinology in Feb 2008, referred by my bc surgeon, as this guy has an academic interest in side effects of Arimidex. He suggested I continue with Arimidex and Fosamax to prevent further bone loss, but I cannot stand the pain and disturbance to my sleep. Does anyone have any experience of stopping Arimidex and getting a different med that does not have the side effect of bone pain?
