Is amoxicillin in the penicillin family

Common Questions and Answers about Is amoxicillin in the penicillin family

amoxil

The doctor had given me amoxicillin which is the reason I had to change doctors. Not only did the amoxicillin make my throat close up to the point where I could barely breath, I broke out in "the rash from hell" from head to toe. I am currently on steroids and benadryl but both seem to not be doing anything because my rash gets worse every day. I have tried all sorts of anti-itch creams and none of them work either.
Now she was diagnosed with an ear infection yesterday, she didn't see her normal doctor because her normal doctor was out of town, which is fine, I know the other doctor. the doctor gave her amoxicillin for her ear infection. Since last night's dosage and today's dosage, she has been breaking out in rash and the rash hasn't gone away. It doesn't itch, and she doesn't have a fever anymore. It looks like hives, could that be an allergy to the medicine?
If the test is negative the child is not penicillin allergic. Penicillin is a beta-lactam antibiotic while, amoxicillin is an amino-penicillin. In other words, it is a modified form of penicillin. It is a beta-lactam molecule with another(amino)molecule stuck onto it. It is not uncommon for children to react to the amino part of the amoxicillin molecule and not the penicillin (beta-lactam) part.
Two days later I was back in the hopsital with respiratory distress, tachycardia (158bpm and i'm normally 80bpm) extremely low blood pressure and hypokalemia (low potassium in my blood). Little did I know only 1 family member of mine is allergic to penicillin. Now I am much better just detoxing myself off of benadryl and prednisone to get rid of an awful heart palpitation thanks to all this nonsense.
it is said the penicillin family antibiotics are the safest with liver disese. some of the high powered ones can cause liver problems.
Benzylpenicillin, Benzathine penicillin, Phenoxymethylpenicillin, Oxacillin Sodium, Cloxacillin, Dicloxacillin, Ampicillin Sodium, Ampicloxacillin sodium, Pvampicillin, Amoxicillin, Carbenicillin sodium, Talampicillin, Furbenicillin, Mecillinam, Carindacillin sodium, Ticarcillin. I took it for 3 1/2 days and I felt like complete crap everyday and last night was the worst. I was so neasous and felt horrible. it gave me really really bad anxiety. I almost took myself to the ER ( hubby was drunk sleeping, lol) but I was able to calm myself and get thru the worst before I fell asleep. So now I'm not taking it anymore! My sister also has a hard time with "cycline" antibiotics! NO MAS!
As far as I know no one in my family is allergic to peas. I fed Elijah peas for the first few months. Out of the blue one day he got welts all over his face, down his chest...we thought it was because DH touched him after using bleach and didn't get it all off his hands. We put him down for a nap DH checked on him about five minutes later and he looked like he was having trouble breathing, I picked him up and he started throwing up, not spit up, I mean heaving throwing up...
The thing is, it somewhat feels like a pulse in that part of the body. Sometimes it will be in my neck (around my collarbone), sometimes an arm, leg, thigh, lower back, left side of my chest, once even on my butt. Sometimes it's just one twitch, sometimes it's several twitch feelings in a row in a quick succession. It doesn't really feel like a pounding, more like a tapping from the inside.
The Flip-Turn is the original, and still the best Sinus Flush. WARNING! DISCLAIMER! The technique in this manual involves bending over in a hot shower. More recently I developed a gnawing pain in my left upper leg, right where the leg meets the groin and in the buttocks. It feels like the muscle is wrapping hard around the joint or the joint itself is hurt. I recently got another CT scan of the pelvis and the abdomen which both came back normal again. Just last week my urologist decided to try some antibiotics in case my testicular pain was somehow infection related.
because there was a big white patch in the back of my throat. However, the strep culture came back negative, which is kind of peculiar, so she put me on amoxicillin and said that she would have to send a culture off to another lab if the patch didn't clear up to see what else it could be.
I thought I'd do it early and go to sleep now, as I did not sleep last night, cause I slept in the afternoon. Talk about vamps. Have been having around 37.5 fever all week, but no infection anywhere. Been sleeping and sweating excessively on and off. Haven't felt dizzy for a while, but the same old sides are lingering every day. Up and down. On wall, off wall. The headaches have been quite bad some days.

It makes sense that ampicillin, amoxicillin, or any others in the penicillin family could treat syphilis (being that penicillin is the recommended treatment). I only asked for the source of the info because I wanted to know if they were somehow less effective treatments than regular old penicillin. Thanks again!
I have seen a specialist in the field of infections and is an OBGYN. My husband is a carrier of Strep B. I was put on mupirocin 1% vaginal suppositiory twice daily for 14 days. He is taking Amox-Clav 875 mg twice daily for 14 days. I was treated frist and after sex was reinfected. This was a clue that he was the reason that we were having issues. Both must be treated. Give your Dr a call and let them know. Good luck and feel better.

I actually feel a crackly throat the next day like I really had smoke in my room. I had a loser family living on the other side who had a grow up going on in the house. That is a totally different smell all together. This is definitely coming from me.
I would appreciate any advice. I had asked for anything in the penicillin family however the doctor gave me the above instead.
If so, treat with antibiotics that are more narrow-spectrum such as penicillin since there's virtually no resistance to penicillin by strep in the community. If less than 3 of 4 of these signs are positive, then wait for your strep test or throat culture to show a bacterial infection before taking antibiotics. These are general guidelines, meant to be taken in the whole context of your health history by your doctor.
My question is; Do I need or should I take a prophylactic like, Amoxicillin before having a BCC removed from my nose area? I had a very successful mvp repair done in Dec.96. I have a BAXTER ANNULOPLASTY ring installed. This BCC may be deeper than normal and somewhat larger, although the Dermatologist does not think it is to deep.I am a 65 year old man and in excellent condition. I do not take any meds. I was tested for penicillin reaction and passed.
It is almost funny, I recently asked a similar question about taking antibiotics with cirrhosis. I did find out that the penicillin family is the easiest on the liver.
Great--in about two days, I'll bet he's going to have a chapped hiney that's borderline bleeding from the antibiotics, meaning he'll be in pain longer from that issue than he will the ear and sinus infections, and as soon as he is laid down for the diaper routine, he'll scream, squirm, and fight me tooth and nail to keep me away from his little tush. I want to cry already. I'm so frustrated.
My husband is allergic to the zucchinni family...when we first got together I mad homemade veggie soup with tiny spices of yellow squash his throat swelled we had to go to er....He shoulda told me...
My husband pick him up to tell him bye bfore work and he was fine and then got him to get him ready to go to the store and i looked at him and he had all this little red spots all over his body and this is every where. inhibitor together with antibiotics although this is common long-standing practice. The medication, which reduces the quantity of acid in the stomach, triggers the bacteria to go into "survival mode", and hibernate, clumping in colonies where only the surface layer is available to interact with the antibiotic. The antibiotics work best when the bacteria are permitted to go on about their business, unaware they are being attacked.
He has had 1 ear infection since then, and all I have to do is put drops in his ears, which won't make him immuned to antibiotics in the future. Is their anyway to push up the ENT appt.? His pediatrician called in the appt. and we where seen within a week. It is just an option for you to try. I totally feel for you and wish you and the little guy lots of luck.
