infection of umbilical cord

My daughter will be a week old tomorrow .. her umbilical cord is hanging on by a thread but there is a little drainage. Is this normal? Any already moms experience this? We have a doctors appt in an hour and a half but I am worried and wanna know if anyone else experienced this with their little one??

I'm in the last few days of week 7, I know this week the umbilical cord forms between my baby and I but my belly button is now swollen, red, and tender.. Does anyone know if that is normal or why it might be this way now.? I noticed it about two days ago.

Annabelle will be three weeks tomorrow and no sign of her umbilical cord falling off. Is that weird? We clean it three times a day like we're supposed to and I have noticed dried blood the past few days when I go to clean or on the inside of her gown, but nothing major and the cord seems fully intact. Haven't contacted her pedi as I don't want to be "one of those moms" who call about every little thing, especially if it's not a big deal.

Today I noticed my sons umbilical cord had a smell to it & leaving little wet marks on his shirt, I decided to call his dr and the dr says it sounds like it could be infected. he wants us to go in tomorrow to have it checked. Im so scared for my baby, I feel like a failure. What will happen now?

Wait until her umbilical cord falls off. You can sponge bathe her, but make sure you don't get that area wet. It can cause an infection.

Has anyone else dealt with a short umbilical cord? What effects could it have on the baby?!

the hospital I had Elijah at must have been out of the loop on umbilical cord care...no one told me anything, I just kept it dry and didn't get it wet...his fell off within the first two weeks.

Does anyone know the approximate length of the umbilical cord in relation to size of baby? I am 16w5d, and own a doppler...baby was where we normally find it first and then moved. I did a check on my belly and it has moved alllll the way to the other side. So weird as its never done that before that I have noticed. I had an ultrasound at 11weeks which determined a singleton pregnancy and that I was just carrying high (Fundus is at par with my bellybutton).

So my sons cord came off yesterday, but some of it stayed. Now it seems water is coming out of his belly button. Is this normal??

It depends. You could end up with a csection it's good they are aware of it now. They will probably monitor you with a few more ultra sounds. The baby is still moving around through. With my 1st my son was in correct position then he decided to turn the opposite direction. Where he was face up instead of face down. Which resulted in extreme back labor which is terrible. I ended up having a csection but because our vitals dropped after 17 hrs of active labor (natural :-/).

I am currently 21 weeks and at my sonogram appointment, my doctor suggested that I had a follow up sonogram a few weeks later because the umbilical cord wasn't curly enough. I'm kinda worried. Is this something I should worry about? Has anyone else heard this from their doctor??

No its fine to put them on over the cord. The cord will fall off in no time. Just make sure you take care of cord. Keep it dry. You can rub rubbing alcohol on it.

the only time the dr does it is if no one wants to cut it or if theres some kinna emergency nd the dr has to do it fast... ive juss never heard of the girl cuttin the cord... thats why i asked...

I know I ask a lot of questions, I apologize for that. :( I was just wondering if sleeping on your back actually id wrap the umbilical cord around the baby's neck? That's what I have been told and sleeping on my back every now and then relives some pressure but if it's going to hurt my baby I would rather suffer the pain than him. And I'm currious to see how other women sleep.
