Common Questions and Answers about Infection of cuticle

infection

Avatar m tn i guess it was a cut in the protruding hard skin next to the nail.i used the same finger to finger the genitals of a girl.if shez infected with hiv, will i get infected too?
Avatar f tn The presence of pus certainly shows that there is an infection. You didn't state if the pus comes out from the nail bed, but if it is, its probably a cuticle infection you have got. You need to use hydrogen peroxide, which decimates the germs. You could use alcohol, even though it burns. You could make a dressing, so that there is less exposure to water, and germs. Make sure you change the dressings at least twice a day, and allow some air to blow on it for some time.
Avatar m tn Is the periodical inflammation in this area prevents the growth of the cuticle, or regardless of the inflammation the missing cuticle will regrow but slowly? I hope to receive a reply ASAP. Thanks for your help!
Avatar n tn My 6 year old daughter had an infection near her cuticle on her thumb which I believe was paronychia. The tested the pus and it was a strep a infection. She was prescribed amoxicillin for 10 days. Her thumb nail has separated from the cuticle area and now about half of the nail is missing and there is only nail bed. Nothing seems to be growing in at the cuticle and it has been a month since the infection.
Avatar n tn Even if he did however, the incidental contact of his blood with a sore cuticle is not meaningful risk factor for HIV and does not warrant testing. HIV does not live on exposure to air and the environment, thus even if he was infected, you would not be at risk. Further, despite the irritated appearance of the cuticle, unless the wound had occurred at the instant it was in contact with the blood, there is no risk for infection.
Avatar m tn With a cut that has not well healed (eg. within the first 24 - 48 hours for smallish cuts, such as when there's some seeping from the wound onto a bandaid) the germs have a possible direct route into the bloodstream. I think with a sore (no possibility of recent bleeding there, right?), no chance at all unless the sore were so bad that the tissue had become as deteriorated and receptive to such germs as a mucuous membrane.
Avatar n tn the only way to know one's status is by testing.
Avatar m tn Dr. EWH / HHH, I know you always indicate that having sore cuticles during fingering is not a risk for hiv transmission but I wanted to ask for clarification in my particular situation. I had a protected sexual intercourse and during foreplay while fingering my partner I felt a little painful sensation on my finger - I looked later and it was a sore cuticle that seemed to have gotten worse during the foreplay possibly due to friction.
Avatar m tn can hiv infected blood get into the nail if it is missing a cuticle (the base of the nail) and get into your bloodstream that way and cause an infection? And what if you the nail is not bleeding? The cuticle is growing very slowly.
Avatar m tn 9 days ago I went to a nude bar and by accident my finger which has a cuticle (am not sure if it was bleeding or not, but the skin below was a bit sore) touched a penis of an unkown guy and i felt like a small drop of precum on this cuticle,,,, today i had a mild sore throat without any fever and it made me very worried... Am I at a risk of getting HIV if this unknown guy is positive... please help .....
Avatar f tn Am I at risk of HIV infection? I did not see any blood (wet or dry on the tip of the bottle), but still. I believe nail technicians have to use a cotton or another applicator and never let the tip of the bottle touch other people's skins.
Avatar m tn On treatment since April. One month ago toenails turned white @ base (by cuticle) and are staying white as they grow out. My thumb nail just started showing white at base. Any ideas? Dr. said go to a dermatologist - has never seen or heard of this problem with Hep C.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am a nursing student and just tonight I went to flush a gelco/IV canular of a HIV positive patient. During this process, a small amount of his blood flushed back onto an alcohol wipe I was using to sterilise the access point. I am not 100% sure if any of the blood came in contact with a small cuticle skin tear on my pointer finger or not. However the tear is approximately 1.5-2 days old and slightly scabbed.
Avatar f tn Since then i had it washed and thinking that the pain will be gone soon but now the area is already dried but the area is still swollen and it gets purple at the area and just below my cuticle, it gets really painful if i bump that finger into something.. Any advice on this? Thank you!
Avatar m tn Now what has caused this yelow-brown discoloration? Is it like an effect of the infection?Should i see a doctor? Will my nail fall?
Avatar f tn I had a dried piece of skin, a torn cuticle. I was tested at 2 weeks and 4 weeks and it was negative. Can you get HIV from cuts or does it have to be a bleeding deep cut? How reliable is a 4 week test? I appreciate your help.
Avatar m tn My cuticle was bleeding at that point as I squeezed my finger and more blood came out. I am a husband and father to a one year old and want to know of if there was any risk of hiv infection, so if so I can take appropriate steps, clinic, pep, etc? Thank you in advance.
1690876 tn?1326349513 when i finished the massage i checked my fingers and saw a little skin tear below the cuticle where the skin is.Not the cuticle but below it (around 1 inch below the cuticle) i do often have such skin peels/break as i chew my nails n fiddle with my nails with my hands.i saw a little but of blood on it and i washed it.
Avatar n tn It was a small cut, and I have researched several forums where they say there has never been any reported cases of infection in this matter, but it just seems that if a needlestick is considered a risk how is this not considered to be a risk? The woman I was with didn't seem to be promiscuous so I feel that lowers my chances even though her status is unknown to me. Any analysis on this would be much appreciated.
Avatar f tn I'm 16 weeks and 1 day and I went and got my nails done. The nail tech cut my finger by going too close to the cuticle with few drill:( She put that antiseptic stuff on there, but I'm still wondering.. Will this affect baby at all?
Avatar f tn There is no redness, swelling, or irritation in the area or on my cuticle, and I have never to my knowledge injured the area, nor do I remember having an infection there. The nail and and cuticle appear normal to me. The joint nearest the area does not hurt at all when bending.
Avatar m tn When skin is cut, cracked or scrape, it begins to heal almost immediate, restoring its effectiveness as a barrier to infection. There is no reason for concern about risk of infection from masturbation of a partner with fingers which have healing cuts on them. There is no need for testing. I hope this comment is helpful.
Avatar m tn The situation was spitting on a finger and inserting it into the rectum? What are the risks? Is there risk with a cut finger cuticle? Do you know statistics for new hiv infection in the US?
Avatar n tn I had protected sex and I am proud of myself for this. The source of my anxiety come from the idea that some bitten cuticle were not bleeding at the time was a way for the infection to get in. I got myself tested and asked the physician and he so "no" because the serous membrane had formed a protective layer. Can I give myself comfort knowing that I the infection could pass through. I need some peace over here. Thanks.
Avatar m tn You never had an exposure. For HIV to take place you have to have unprotected penetration.
Avatar f tn com/albums/vv124/emm7wrigh7/ For the last month or two, I have noticed small, dry bumps that have grown on the area around my finger nail and cuticle. At first I thought that this was just dry skin but they haven't gone away with regular moisturizing. I am not sure if these are warts or possibly an infection that I may have gotten from the acrylic nail salon that I used to go to. Is there anything I can use to remove this?
Avatar n tn I have a relatively swollen index finger. It is a bit red at the base of the cuticle and this morning, found a green spot. I pushed on it and green pus came out. What does that mean? Infection? Can it spread through the rest of my finger? Please help!
Avatar f tn So, in my fear that I may have an infection brewing in my body from this jerk who decided to use his own dirty fingernails as "tools", about 30 minutes ago, I took 4 amoxicilliin capsules. I had them left over from a recent dental procedures. I hope I didn't do the wrong thing by taking these capsules. I just figured if there is an infection starting, the 4 antibiotics would wipe it out, full force.
