1361044 tn?1277598308 Honestly, in my opinion, babies are so wrapped up in this new world, all the new things going in for them, that a little cold (virus) hardly slows them down. it could be your baby is behind because she doesn't feel well all the time, and THAT is holding her back. Maybe not, but in either case I would push for them to figure it out. Chalking it all down to a virus is a lazy, sorry excuse. My point is, YOU DO know your child more than anyone.
Avatar n tn Hi Aidens_Mom, Ya it's new to me also that asthma causes a 103 degree fever! Asthma can lead to pneumonia but not the other way around. When steroids are inhaled into the lungs to treat asthma it creates an immune suppression and can make the person more susceptible to infection. This is a scary thing for a mother not to mention your son and should be investigated further. I would recommend they refer you to a Immunologist, and have the level of antibodies your son has evaluated.
Avatar n tn Candida albicans. However, we were told thrush is commomly found in newborns, infants and the elderly. Only a doctor can tell you if your nine-year old son has it. Good luck.
Avatar m tn Our work contributes to the understanding of how HBV exposure before birth shapes the global immune response of newborn infants and transforms the way we look at HBV. Despite causing diseases later in life, HBV might actually be beneficial to humans early in life." Previously, Prof Bertoletti had shown that young adults (aged 14 to 30) with chronic HBV infection are not immune tolerant and possess immune cells able to counter the virus.
Avatar f tn I feel Gerd and milk allergy are grossly overdiagnosed in infants. Lactose overload has been diagnosed in breast-fed infants now - and I believe it is also found in babies.
Avatar f tn CMV is the most important cause of congenital viral infection in the US. For infants who are infected by their mothers before birth, two potential pictures exist: Generalized infection may occur in the infant, and symptoms may range from moderate enlargement of the liver and spleen (with jaundice) to fatal illness. With supportive treatment, most infants with CMV disease survive.
Avatar m tn The prevalence of chronic HBV infection in pregnant women reflects that in the general population[2]. About 5% of mothers worldwide are chronic HBV carriers[3]; ranging from 0.6% in low-endemic regions to > 20% in high-endemic areas in the Far East and Africa[4,5]. The prevalence of HBeAg in pregnant HBV-positive women exceeds 50% in some high-endemic regions[5].

Avatar n tn It usually manifest itself as a cold in adults and older children, but can cause serious problems in infants. RSV can cause lower respitory infections, breathing problems, pneumonia or even death. According to statistics, over 125,000 infants are hospitalized annually with Respiratory Syncytial Virus, resulting in more than 500 deaths. RSV can be contracted by placing your hand in your mouth after you have come in contact with an infected person or surface.
Avatar n tn In addition to oral and genital sores, the virus can also lead to complications such as infection of the lining of the brain and the brain itself (meningoencephalitis) in neonatal infants due to infection during birth. However, some people have HSV-2 but do not show symptoms. Up to 30% of U.S. adults have antibodies against HSV-2. Cross-infection of type 1 and 2 viruses may occur from oral-genital contact. Avatar f tn My son, who is 7 months old, was recently diagnosed with Chiari Malformation. The diagnosis was confirmed on Mar 10, 2014 and he was also diagnosed with hydrocephalus. Avatar m tn Since the mysterious lack of information published regarding priapism has possibly left the medical staff you trust ignorant of its manifestation in infants and children. I suggest that you study the issue of priapism and get several more medical opinions asap. Even if priapism is not the cause of the lump you found the lump is possibly an internal scar or tumor and either of these can easily induce priapism.
Avatar n tn The cause is unknown--even infants get it--but it can cause itch in both the locations you mention. Perhaps the scalp was infected from scratching, but seborrhea itself is not infectious. Seborrhea can be controlled, but it comes back when it wants to, so you needn't hold that against your dermatologist. I recommend that you him again to ask these questions. Best. Dr.

Avatar n tn Her gastro doctor had her tested for this due to frequent vomiting (she still grew at an impressive rate and was in good spirits most days). Is vomiting a common sympton of c diff in infants? She is on antibiotics right now and I am very hopeful that this will cure her of her frequent vomiting. Also, she has never had diarhea, as a matter of fact, she has been constipated since she was 3 months old and has been given a dose of Myrilax daily. Can c diff also be the cause of constipation?
