Common Questions and Answers about Infection in incision after surgery

infection

Avatar f tn So, my question is how did i get this infection at this late stage after my surgery and has this happened to anyone else?????????????
776572 tn?1360290739 You may need a course of antibiotics. I went for a post-post op well-woman exam last week only to discover I had a minor pelvic infection with no noticeable symptoms. Can't be from anything I've done since my body has been in "rest and recovery mode" since the day of surgery in mid-January. Very similar to what you described following your C-section. And the antibiotics I've been given have some unpleasant side effects.
847512 tn?1272567062 Well the Dr said I have fluid in my ears and a sinus infection and my incision looks ok but to be aware I probably wont feel the full effects of the fall till in the morning with all the muscle tenderness etc....So here I am at 12am IN PAIN.... 5528669 tn?1369281005 I had laparoscopic surgery one week ago today and about an hour ago I was looking at my belly button in the mirror cause I keep having bad pains in my belly button and there is a dark brown gooey discharge coming out from the incision. Does anyone know if this is normal? Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn This happened to me after my surgery. I had 4 bouts with menningitis and 10 days in a no contact room with a lumbar drain for a staph infection. Went home with roseffin (sp) and one other high powered IV antibiotic. I had a direct line that stayed in for quite a while and a home nurse came by 2-3 X wk. The wash out they are talking about is just like any other surgery.
Avatar f tn You absolutely need to see your doctor so he can stitch it back and avoid bigger scaring and bad healing. Tell them it is an emergency after surgery and your insicion opened up. They will give you an appointment for sure ! You need another course of antibiotics since there is yellow puss coming out it is a sign that there is an infection. Whatever you do, DON`T APPLY any type of product on it and don't get any bathes; just showers to make sure no soap stays there.
640147 tn?1223999555 i recently had laparascopic surgery to remove a 13 cm cyst and my right ovary and tube. surgery went well for the first week then i developed fevers nightly then one day my lower incision started draining really bad. i went to the er and they took cultures and kept me there on antibiodics thru iv for 4 days. they said i had cellulitus staph infection and they sent me home with antibiodics for 11 days.
Avatar n tn 23 days ago I went through surgery to have a deep dermatofibroma removed off the upper right side of my back. 5 days after the first surgery they had to perform and second surgery because the lab results indicated they had not removed all of it - leaving me with a 4-1/2" long incision running horizontally to about 2" left of my armpit. I had a lot of pain associated with the healing after the second surgery - itching, soreness, sharp pains, etc..
Avatar m tn I had surgery on my ankle, Stabilization. And a couple weeks after surgery i puled a internal suture from the incision area, and about a week later i pulled another internal suture string from the incision area again. Where the staples were on the outside. Should I worry. I wanted to hear from somebody other than the surgeon who did the work.
2080904 tn?1332138092 You need to let the doctor know who did the surgery that your wound opened up. You don't want to get an infection in there and he may have to close it back up. Don't delay on notifying them.
Avatar n tn I was suspected with DCIS during regular mammogram, then ultrasound, MRI and core needle biopsy confirmed for DCIS. When I was referred to a cancer hospital for second opinion, the MRI DVD provided to the oncologist board suggested I may have lobular instead and they order a second biopsy, however since the 1st biopsy confirmed for DCIS and the 2nd biopsy found abnormal non-invasive cells, they did lumpectomy.
16744917 tn?1451266839 I was wondering if anyone had incision leaks weeks after surgery. Mine was completely healed and then busted open in a small spot and drained. I am over 3 weeks out from surgery. Not sure if it's normal or not. Should I be concerned?
Avatar n tn is it normal for a patient's incision from heart surgery to be itcy, iritated, and/or burn? if so, for how long?
Avatar n tn The stitches remained in for one week and were removed on the first postop exam with my surgeon. After the surgery there was a bandage in place which I was told to remove after 48 hrs. There were steri-strips around the incision which I was instructed to just let fall off on their own (did not need to protect them when showering etc.) I wore a sports bra 24/7 for the first three days which helped provide support and eased some of the minor discomfort I experienced.
1308211 tn?1279662148 I had an incision in my belly button and one on the left and right side near hips. The incision in my belly button developed large blisters yesterday and there is a large red area of skin about the size of a dollar bill under my belly button. No fever, but I just really dont feel very good. Pain is completely manageable using Toradol. Anyone have anything similar? I could go to urgent care, but I do not know if I am overreacting.
1297477 tn?1295949511 when i had my surgery my incision was very red and sore then it started to look like it was starting to open i went down to my gp and he said i had an infection in the incision and also a kidney infection so it might be best to have it cheacked out let us know how you get on .
Avatar f tn Hello, Severe stabbing pain in the wound even long after surgery is giving the possibility of infection of the wound. Infection is the most common complication of any surgical procedure. Chances of post operative infection are more in diabetes, obesity, malnutrition, taking corticosteroid medications prescribed for another disorder or condition, a weakened immune system and in heavy smokers.
Avatar m tn feeling for a couple of days after cataract surgery while the incision is healing. Almost all surgeries are done now without a stitch to close the incision. It is just left to heal. Some lenses may require a larger incision that requires a stitch to close the incision. You could ask the surgeon if one was used. It is also normal to use antibiotic and steroid drops to prevent infection and promote faster healing of the incision.
965215 tn?1274955173 I'm so glad to hear that you were able to get into the doctor's office today. I agree that something doesn't seem right. You most certainly can expect significant swelling after a surgery like that, but it's really the other symptoms that are concerning to me, however, swelling can be one of the first signs of a MRSA infection, so it's defiitely a good idea to make sure the swelling that you have is "normal".
Avatar n tn The only thing else I am drinking is water. After surgery I went home in 24 hrs. However the pain never was below an 8 and that was for about 1/2 hr after a heavy dose of meds. I would say my pain scale was about a 12. Within 36 hrs I was back in emergency with a temp of 100.2, O2 sats 82%, P 125, BP 175/100, bilateral pain and cramping in both lower calves. They did an ultra sound for blood clots in the legs and a CT scan for the lungs and heart which were negative.
2932946 tn?1344722012 I had surgery on July 10th, spent 48 hours in the hospital and upon release my first question was When Can I Wash My Hair? My surgeon said I could wash my hair right away. I had dissolvable sutures for the inside and surgical glue over the incision. The dr just stated to not submerge my incision and do not apply the shampoo directly onto the incision.
Avatar m tn I have on incision along my ankkle, and another incision on my foot. My cast came off 3 weeks after surgery. 5 weeks after surgery, when I was changing my dressing, I saw some some black stitches from the ankle incision on my gauze pad. I called the doctor's office, and the medical assistant said that that was normal. After that, I noticed drainage for a few days when I changed the dressing.
Avatar f tn Have you spoken to your doctor who did the surgery about the problems you are having ? I would ask just to be sure. Could it be an infection at the surgery site ? Please don't wait too long before seeing a doctor.
1236570 tn?1276738525 Hi Stephanie, I have not had CM surgery but I have had surgery, it is normal for an incision to get itchy during the healing process but I dont know about 6 weeks post opp. The important thing is that there is no infection, if it is swollen and red looking this could indicate an infection. If you are going to use creams be careful about the creams you use. I know Carolyn & Selma can help here :) Try not to itch the scar.....
Avatar m tn it was a bad break and a plate and screws were put in. everything seems well except an area of numbness under the inscision and in the arm . is this normal and what timeline can i expect for improvement?
454046 tn?1244565593 Hi, know tha feeling well! Keep eye on blister, could possibly in need of further drainage? I had to have a tube & bad installed *yuk! Avatar f tn At night after I have had an active day with my small greatgrandchild, the left side of my incision is red and is more swollen. Thank you for your help.
1262699 tn?1277854959 Before my procedure I was in terrible pain from the Endo and I had to stay home for 2 months. My surgery went well, however the incision sites, especially the ones on the left and right still hurt. I rested the first 3 weeks and on the fourth week I tried walking 20-25 minutes each day and did very light chores around the house, like dishes. By the end of the 4th week I felt the pain like it was the 1st week so i stopped walking and rested for another 3 weeks.
