Avatar f tn Hello, I have been suffering from anxiety for years and tend to get fixated on strange and irrational phobias. For the last five days, I have been worried about possibly getting exposed to rabies by eating a piece of fruit. The story: I picked a ripe piece of fruit that had a bite mark in it.
Avatar f tn The only serious consequences can be infection and rat bite fever (rare). Hence it is important to keep the wound clean, take anti tetanus and a course of antibiotics. Please talk to your doctor. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar m tn Here is a link of many things you can get from birds and these are not all from a splash or drinking the bird water by accident. A lot are acquired other ways, such as inhaling pigeon droppings, or a bite from a rat or other animal or getting it in a a open wound. https://www.cdc.gov/healthypets/diseases/index.html However, it is unlikely. If you don't have any symptoms after a week or two I wouldn't worry about it.
Avatar n tn A man in Bend, Or has been in the news the past month because he got Bubonic Plague from a cat bite which the cat got from a mouse or rat. Go to Urgent Care ASAP.

Avatar n tn Hi and I agree very gross. There are some infections you can get from eating or breathing in rat droppins. But since you don't have any symptoms I wouldn't worry about it. If you do get symptoms such as high fever, with headache nausea etc. I would go in and report it to your doctor. Some rare things you can get are rat "bite" fever (can get it from injestion of rat dung too) but it is very very rare in the US.
Avatar f tn m so sorry to hear this! Was there any chance she got into any rat poison? Certain types of rat poisons (typically green or blue pellets) will cause clotting disorders and internal bleeding. Platelet problems (which can arise from tick infections like Erhlichiosis or Lyme disease) can also cause bruising and bloody urine. Typically, if she got into rat poison, she would have had to gotten into it 3-5 days PRIOR to clinical symptoms, as it takes several days before clinical effect or poisoning.
Avatar n tn They do not show in symptoms of disease but their bite can cause infection and a large degree of swelling. Although it might be kind of weird to have to talk about getting an infection from a rabbit bite, the doctor needs to know the species of animal.
Avatar n tn Bites on the ear - the cartilage in the ear is more susceptible to becoming infected from an insect bite. Follow the precautions as above to prevent infection, but also be sure to use warm soaks from the start (instead of only if an infection sets in). If it does become infected, see your doctor. You may need antibiotics sooner than normal bites. Brown Recluse spider bites - this particular spider bite can form a large purple irregularly shaped blister surrounded by a red ring.
Avatar f tn We are not doctors on here however, we all have personal experiences, some of us are nurses, physician assistats, and microbiologists Is he being treated with antibiotics? It is caused by a rat bite usually. If you want to send your blood tests and Xray you can on this site or your home page but not by skype or email. I think getting the rabbies vaccination for the cat is ok. I don't see why you can't have a cat around. I'll check into this for you.

Avatar f tn No, your current rabies vaccination schedule will prevent infection from the second bite, if the dog did indeed have rabies.
Avatar n tn t know for sure where the blood came from. The following day while showering I had a flea bite above my heal and i scratched it causing it to slightly bleed, then when walking down the stairs after showering (the stairs are near the bathroom) the spot where the bite was touched the back of one of the stairs, I freaked out and ran back into the shower where i proceeded to rinse it off etc. Does that sound like I'm at high risk, sorry for poor grammar etc.
1564699 tn?1295190642 Our dog was poisoned with rat poison and we took her to the vet, where he took bloodwork and kept her overnight to give her meds and IV drip. She made it thru this terrible ordeal, she was given vitamin K to bring up the red blood count, am giving her this once a day (morning). She is also taking ciprofloxacin every evening. What i am worried about is she wont poop!
Avatar n tn an individual in a group will hide his symptoms of illness from the other members (and from predators) until the illness is deeply set in. Therefore, since he was hiding his symptoms you may not have noticed, and it is no fault of yours. He could have parasites, viral, or bacterial infections, and more, and as ireno has said it may be too late, but as peekawho has said, he deserves a chance so take him to he vet.
Avatar m tn orifices on the human body and there is a risk of bacterial infection due to human bites. If your ear swells and/or becomes inflamed I advise you to seek medical care immediately as you will need antibiotic therapy. On the other hand, your risk for HIV from such an exposure is minimal and not something to worry about. There are a VERY few descriptions of HIV from such an exposure but not so many as to be reason for concern. I hope this comment helps.
Avatar f tn Hello and welcome to the forum. We're so glad you found us! That sounds like a very hard time for you. How long were you living out of your van? Do you have adequate housing now? And am I understanding you correctly, you had a rat you couldn't get rid of? As in a rat was in the van with you? This is not a pet rat but a rat that took up residence in the van from outside? Your health does sound precarious.
Avatar m tn My 9 year old son is experiencing recurring fevers every 3-4 weeks that last for 4 days. He exhibits no other symptons, the fevers spike to about 102.5 and he receives temporary relief from tylenol etc. This has been going on now for about 5 months and has had blood work done with all levels coming back normal. We are not going through round two of blood tests. Starting to reach our wits ends... pediatrician has been very diligent but I think is running out of ideas as well....
Avatar f tn rats have made nest in my daughters cars engine without knowing about this my daughter has been driving her car with her 11 wek old baby with heating on can fumes from rat droppings in engine be dangerous if inhaled thru heaters being used
Avatar m tn I am an Australian currently travelling through Vietnam and have have been scratched by a rat. The scratch mark was red however from what I can see didn't break the skin. I was not bitten. I cleaned the scratch with soapy water and then disinfectant afterwards. I had my parents speak to a doctor at home for me who said I shouldn't be concerned about my exposure. They also said rats rarely carry diseases such as rabies which I have been concerned about.
Avatar n tn In 2006 I had a root canal & crown done on last molar & then 9 monts later woke up swollen & puss came out of gum. The dentist xrayed & said everything looked good & it happened because the tooth sat to high & I gring my teeth & the pressure brused the bone & caused infection. Now again last week the same thing except now I also have a white bumpy looking thing on the opening of throat on the same side as the molar. I'm sure that's from the infection.
Avatar m tn I recently got a bite from a person. The bite lasted a couple of seconds. There were red marks / impressions after the bite that disappeared after several hours. There didn't seem to be any visible bleeding that I could see. And when the red marks disappeared there were no puncture wounds or scabs. However a slight bruise did appear a day later Am I at risk ? I asked this question in the forum - But wanted to ask here as well.
